I dont know why but i just find this channel funny. I know its informative and stuff but maybe its coz id never do half the stuff he shows. Its all a bit of fun
Thank you for the idea. I use this when I go camping in the bunk bed in a camper. It is a backpack with a projector, Android TV box (with RetroArch), and an AV to HDMI adapter for any game consoles or something from outside. It all runs inside the backpack, so it's all self-contained
The beauty of many these is that they can often use either battery power or USB power which a minimum of 5 V. If you want to play SNES, there’s a few options. Android TV with an 8bitdo or Joycon Controller and a SNES emulator, a phone with HDMI adapter and an 8bitdo Controller, SNES Mini(like you mentioned, but not my favorite), or the Analogue Super NT which comes out in March, although some people got theirs early. The Analogue Super NT, much like the SNES Mini, only needs USB power. While it costs more, at $189, it can play almost any SNES Cartridge, including Flash Carts. There’s also a jailbreak firmware for it that allows it to play games from an SD Card. Pair that with an 8bitdo Retro Receiver and controller, and you are good to go. For two players, you need another Retro Receiver and 8bitdo Controller. The one downside is that certain games like Star Fox do not work from an SD Card, as that game in particular needs to the special Super FX Chip. I would still argue that there’s a ton more games you can play on it, as you you have access to basically the entire SNES game library.
Nice video! I have a similar setup I use with a portable usb monitor, and my NES classic, with a 20,000ma battery! The projector is a brilliant alternative to what I am using. I will have to get one of those
Thank you. I did look for a 1080p USB powered monitor with HDMI input for a different setup that I was working on but I really struggled to find one. I thought USB powered monitors would be quite common but it appears not :-)
They were cool ideas!! Shame the Apple TV has AC input. Mabye I need to crack it open, pop the power supply out, and measure its voltage. If its 5V, replace it with a usb mini connector :). Now what about camping laser shows? I have an ion laser that pulls 2.4kW from the wall. How many power banks will I need *chuckle* ;) on a serious note I missed the brand of that projector - it looks half decent considering the size!
Nice kit and all that with something for everybody but the real passion killer must be keeping that lot powered in a field camping situation. I just could not see that anker USB rechargesble power brick keeping up with demand as gaming sessions tend to go on for hours.
You absolutely do not need to run the Nintendo Switch off of a wall outlet to get it to run. You just need to find a USB battery that outputs the required voltage and amps, which even at the time this video was made existed. Plug the dock into the battery using USB-C and bam you're good to play anywhere completely free of the need of an outlet.
Hey vince is it just me or the NIC network interface card in the nintendo switch is really poor ive got to be less than 2 rooms or less away from my router for it to connect to the network. All my other devices connect with a strong connection wirelessly from the other side of the house so i cant game online without being in the same room as my router so i cant game in my room do you have any tips to help the connection ? Also love your videos theyre very interesting and educational :)
I don't think they do 15v at 2.6A, I thought it was a lower amperage. If you know of one could you please post the link and I will check it out. Thanks :-)
You are right. Those banks only supply 30W (15V @2A or 20V@1.5A) and not 39 watts required by the official dock. But remember the switch only draws18W (15V@1.2A) when docked, the extra power goes to the dock and its 3 USB A ports. So as long as you arent using the offical dock, you may not need the full 39W wall charger and instead a 30W power bank may suffice. eg. Fastnails portable dock (similar dongle shape to yours) says their portable dock works on 5V@2A phone chargers. I have not tested but a completely portable docked switch is possible.
Here is their dock. check the description on power supply. www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Converter/dp/B074MYLP9C. I plan to order it and test 5V, 15V power banks on it
Perfect, thanks for the link. I looked on the questions/answers on Amazon Q- How many volts/amperes does it need to work? The seller answered 5V1A, 5V2.4A, 5V2.6A are all ok. So this portable dock looks like it would be perfect. The thing I don't understand is how it can work on 5v with such low amps because 18w at 5v would need 3.6A to get 18w unless I am missing something. If you do get it could you maybe send an update message on here. I will have a read through all the Amazon customer reviews to see if anyone has tried it on powerbanks. Thanks again for the link :-)
From my testing on handheld play at max brighntess and sound and wifi on - the switch can maintain 100% battery on a 5V@2A Anker USB-A battery bank. No charging is done if less than 100% So that 18W is really needed to "play and charge" . Therefore i assume the Fast Snail dock at 5V@2A may result in the switch discharging slowly overtime if used with a lower voltage source. Will let you know how it turns out. Keep up these cool videos!!
I have a question! Is it bad playing the switch while charging? (for example:playing mario kart 8 deluxe or Super mario odyssey or splatoon2 while the switch is charging)
i had the same question lol. it charges in the dock tho, even though you are playing. This might help www.anandtech.com/show/11181/a-look-at-nintendo-switch-power-consumption/2
I think the Nintendo Switch outputs up to 5V 1.8A on its USB ports and from memory the projector needs 5V 2.4A so I would be worried it may damage the Dock.
Hi Vince, I have really enjoyed your switch videos and am torn between also getting an Apeman M4 (circa £150 new) or an Anker Nebula Capsule (v1, approx £250) in your opinion, is the Nebula worth an extra £100 over the Apeman? or save up for a better 720p/1080p super portable projector. It's for my Son to use when we go on holiday. As a cheap dock replacement, does this for circa £11 seem reasonable: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07Z8XYLKS/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza I cannot find the SFANS one from your videos, on sale anywhere.Cheers, J
Awesome video Vince! 9:27 - Thanks for that! I didn't know certain PSP models were capable of outputting to a TV/projector. 13:57 - Love the use of the Joy-Cons as controllers on the PS TV, as well as on the Android TV! 18:50 - I haven't tried it out, but Blunty recommended this power bank for the Nintendo Switch as it's got a USB-C port, and it's one of the few capable of outputting at the 15V 2.6A required to charge it. It's out of stock atm, but you can ask them to notify you when it comes back in stock: www.razerzone.com/gb-en/gaming-accessories/razer-power-bank 22:36 - I've got to get my hands on a GPD Win/GPD Pocket! Do you have any experience of the GPD Pocket at all? I just wondered whether I'd be better off getting that as it's more powerful, and the screen is only slightly bigger than that of the Nintendo Switch at 7". Thanks! :)
Thanks, I have now found a portable dock that can work on just 5volts thanks to another viewers information :-) so the Nintendo Switch on the projector is now completely portable. (look up FastSnail) If you want to do more everyday computing tasks then the Pocket is much better because of the bigger screen and the usable keyboard. Where the GPD Win is superior is when it comes to emulators and streaming Xbox and PS4 remote play due to the built in controller. Thanks Vince.
That's alright! And thanks for the info about the FastSnail dock! I just assumed there was no way around that as you can't change the power requirements of the Nintendo Switch itself. Thanks for that! I didn't realise the Pocket didn't come with a built in controller. I think I'd still be more inclined to get that as the Win is only about as powerful as my current laptop. I suppose I can always link a controller up to it though.
Great video mate! I really enjoy watching - I love getting new technology. I also wanted to let you know that a company called Weego might sell what you are looking for in terms of the portable power for the switch. I have one that will deliver 12 or 19 volts - but I'm not sure on the amps - I'm at work at the moment and can't look it up. Here is there website: myweego.com/
Thanks for the link and the comments. I had a quick look and most off them appear to be 5, 9 or 12v and on the jump starters 5,12 and 19v but I will go through all of them later. It certainly looks like it is possible but there may not be a need at the moment for 15v. Hopefully in the future though :-)
I have one of them as well and a 1000 (I got some broken ones on eBay and fixed them up). I love the PSP Go because it hardly takes up any room in the pocket. You can fit your phone, wallet and PSP Go no problem :-) I like/love the build quality of the of the PSP1000 though and I know the PSP3000 is a better gaming experience but the mechanism for opening the back is nothing like the original. You can tell they spent a lot of money designing the PSP1000 which I like. Thanks for the comments.
