The uncle of the princes in the Tower wasn't "Richard, Duke of York"; that title was already held by the young king's brother, Richard of Shrewsbury, the younger of the two princes.
The uncle was Richard, Duke of *Gloucester* , who became King Richard III.

@@memethingz6004 Aaannnd...? Does it make it lesser enchanting? Just so you know, so the brits were invaded, occupied, plundered and enslaved by the Roman Empire. That's how History rolled back then and none of us can go back in time and undo the past mistakes, we can only learn from them, correct our ways and move forward as a more humane society. Holding grudges against a group of people that have effectively done nothing to you is petty, stupid and the root of constant division. We face global challenges that must be addressed by all peoples and nations and nothing gets done in a toxic vengeful environment. Stay real.

@@david6532 It's your call, mate, but as a citizen of a republican country i tell you footing the bill for the perks and security of 3 or 4 current+former living presidents is more expensive than your Royals. Their networth is indeed outrageous but we know it's mostly all assets of the Crown (historical estates, jewels and art), stuff that is to be kept by the Union, either kingdom or republic. Their networth won't revert as income to the british people, but as cultural heritage and thus more expenses creating new instititions to maintain those assets.
They have no saying in politics or policies anyways and they make great diplomatic "door openers" to british business and worldwide interests through their connections and influence. Plus they are a feature of stability and comfort in troubled times, i guess.
But hey, i'm all for people deciding how and by whom they should be governed as a democracy fanboy i am, just weigh the pros and cons, please. Such drastic changes in the political system can go sour sometimes. Beware the corrupt vultures are always flying around to feed on the carrion prey of division and chaos. Stay safe

And I, as a very old Brit living in the US, ALSO enjoyed this & learned a great deal that I had either never been told or did not remember - this is a great way to show the history in total, and the overview of so many castles & special buildings is really helpful in understanding their structure & why they were built. Thank you - this is very valuable & I wish had been available to my teachers as a child - the big picture should be where teaching history starts.

I thumbs-downed a reply to you that I no longer see after a refresh-- With regard to anyone who might think Queen Elizabeth II is selfish for not "simply" handing over the crown to the thrown of England, to her son, you are wholly ignorant as to what that entails as well as ignorant to her Royal Majesty's pledge to the people of Great Britain on her inauguration. At that time she pledged a life long servitude to her peoples of England and its realms. That is not easily cast aside, despite her long age. In addition to it going against her pledge and coronation as Queen Monarch, I do believe it would require an act of Parliament to pass the crown. Which is akin to an passing an Act of Congress in the United States; something not easily obtained in any age.
I echo, Monica's sentiment; Long Live the Queen!!!

Your quite right in your view of the front. The main front we see now was added by Victoria and it completely enclosed John Nash’s beautiful bath stone cour d'honneur. This new wing was built from caen stone which eroded and darkened very quickly in the London smog. The architect for the new wing was Edward Blore who was famous for his cheap and practical but rather dull architecture. By the early 20th century this wing was completely black still in contrast with the beautiful bath stone regency palace that sits behind and was subsequently refaced in bright and hardy portland stone by Aston Webb. This was done along with a remodelling of the Mall and the installation of the Victoria memorial and was probably one of the last great pieces of public imperial architecture undertook before the rest of the 20th century really turned its back on imperialism in all forms. In practise and in art.
What we are left with looks like a bit like a railway terminus or town hall but I encourage you to visit the palace and tour the state rooms in the regency block behind. They are absolutely breathtaking and that is where you really get to still see the true Buckingham Palace.

Strikes me as a combination White House-Executive Office Building with maybe a lil whiff of a hotel thrown in, all with the feel that your Grandmother lived there. BOOOOoooooooOOOOOORINg. I’m sure the art is great, but even (especially?) museums get dull after a while.

Dear sir...I have just now.... seen your short video here to which you have my profound congratulations ;o) and yes Great Britain does have a splendid array of royal residencies and buildings , BUT these structures are no match to what other royal realms have i assure you...!! In my opinion Italy , Spain and especially France have a much more finer selection of royal residencies , the magnificent architecture and opulence is seen in every corner and in every inch of these architectural marvels...which in my opinion are still and always will be the epitome of grandness !! I myself am a direct descendent of that great and famous florentine family the Medici's and yes i am a great lover of history especially european history to which i have a high level of respect and admiration for and as for castles and residencies pertaining to my royal line , you need only go and visit my great ancestral italian gem of Florence to see and experience this !!! I thank you and again very well done for your production here !!! Visconte Raimondo de'Medici

It's curious that you felt the need to mention the Spanish Armada, but failed to mention the English Armada the following year, which was as disastrous for the English as the Spanish one had been for Spain.

When I converse n see them them or even browse through the history n architecture I don't ever look at it in terms of money,I just see buildings which may have some remodeling done as they had mentioned to me before, which is their decision on that place n she's had her position for a little ng time, unless she didn't want it anymore(she has breaks n time for herself, which is important) I haven't heard anything about her stepping aside at all..shrug..we all have various things in our lives that we want to experience n explore. Anyways I forgot what I was gonna say oh well eh shrug

I feel stupidly drawn to it. My DNA shows 55% English with a sliver of Welsh and NW European. My mom was always reading up on the British monarchy and she always pointed out a Tudor house. One day she told be that we re related to them. Since I was young she didn't elaborate. Many years later I was in the library and at random opened a book about Henry VIII. The page was about his Irish mistress, Elizabeth Holland, who was probably really English. My Holland ancestors came from County Clare. After applying the other ancestor factors my DNA indicates that those Hollands from Ireland were English. Also Elizabeth was a name the entered into every subsequent generation. The sliver of Welsh and NW European indicates that it happened many generations before, like 500 years, pretty inconsequential. I'm just always intrigued by mystery.

A name doesn't tie or link you with British royals, that's absurd, go compare your dna with that of those British royals you're desperately trying to claim, you won't have any familial genetic relations being shared neolithic eurasian ancestry which all Europeans share

    • @lexyswope

I'm just intrigued by the mystery. I actually eschew elitism. It's kind of fun to goad the elitists who used to be around me with it. Any connection is 500 years old and hardly striking. My mom wasn't a person to make things up when she said we're related to them.

@@lexyswope as I've proferred, your mother ostensibly claiming some putative ancestral kinship with one of the cadet branches of British royals, predicated solely on sharing a surname (a random name that many unrelated people carry, not dna which is scientific), doesn't negate the asinine parochial absurdity of attaching oneself to people with whom you share no ancestral ties with, who you don't even share dna with
