    What a freaking idiot for not taking the 158 million offer . He could not spend that money in multiple lifetimes! He might have had a better year by signing and taking the stress off of himself . Greedy and dumb move Boras & Alonzo

    • @allandenola5968

      Maybe he put so much pressure on himself that he did not have a great season compared to 2 years ago- must be an ego thing to get paid compared to other players contracts? Me i would have took the money and played with no stress. Plus i would want to play for Mets and win World Series

    Boras was not Alonso's agent when he rejected the $158 million offer in 2023. Alonso hired Boras after he rejected the offer.

      In addition, Eppler was the fool who persuaded Cohen to let him offer Alonso that much money.

    I respect his decision to bet on himself. It obviously didn’t work out, so now he needs to be realistic. He should take a shorter term deal with high AAV and op outs in the first and second years.

      Pete got the greedhead's agent. No one sane will offer a player ALREADY in steep decline player opt outs, ensuring they eat his decline at 25-30m a year.

    I'd like to see him return. If not, the Mets need a similar player with similar stats. But, frankly, they also need a first base who can throw accurately to second base. Is Keith Hernandez available?

  • @Zsklar
    @Zsklar День назад +1

    At this point he should sign a one year deal and see if he can get more money off of another “prove it” season. His last season certainly didn’t help him at all. At some point you need to take the hint that teams don’t think you are worth the money you are asking for. In the end it’s a business.

  • @ronniebauch5993
    @ronniebauch5993 День назад +2

    I admire his willingness to bet on himself, but he failed miserably with a 2nd declining year in a row in his walk year. Obviously, in hindsight, his decision was massively bad, but then doubling down by hiring Boras was hubris and delusion on Olympic scale. This will not end well for him. Mets should move on.

    • @chingulin
      @chingulin 2 часа назад

      He will make more than 158 in the same 7 year span, probably a lot more. He also hit 40 hr with 131 rbi and hit 272 in 2022 and 46 with 118 rbi in 2023 despite a 217 avg. Vladdy hasn't hit more than 32 after 2021 and in 23 he hit 26 and hit like 264. He may be younger and have a higher avg but his decline in power numbers over the last 3 years has been clear and his numberrs have been wildly inconsistent. Pete will be fine and his decision was not "massively bad". You need to look up hubris and delusion and maybe rethink that olympic scale thing. Just as a fun excersie, take a look at the Jays lineup in 2021 when Vladdy hit 48/111 and hit 311. Then think about the absolute lack of protection Alonso has had in his career and why he would be swinging at sliders low and away. Spoiler: Conforto in 2019 hit 33 hrs, Alonso hit 53 with 120 rbi and a 260 ba and 941 ops that year. Since then pitchers have no reason to throw him anything anywhere near the plate because they knew there was nobody behind him to make them pay.

  • @robnirenberg4727
    @robnirenberg4727 2 дня назад +3

    Let him walk. Already starting to decline. Mets have options. Move Vientos to first. Arendo, Bregaman, Mauricio, or Baty can play third.

    • @johnstrawb3521
      @johnstrawb3521 17 часов назад +1

      @robnirenberg4727 Well said. Even if he's no better than he was in 2024, Baty projects via fangraphs to 1.8 fWAR in 2025, whereas Pete was worth only 2.1 fWAR in 2024 and will be 30 in 2025, unlikely to be improving any. Move Vientos to 1B, Baty / Mauricio to 3B, and spend the 25m AAV they might have spent on Alonso on the DH they sorely need. ---If they're not going to play all of 2 or 3 young players, with 1 or 2 of those on the bench, guys with a respectable chance of being useful in 2025, what's the plan? To fill EVERY hole through free agency?
      That doesn't work even with a $350m payroll plus $100m in penalties and lost draft picks.

  • @xstugee
    @xstugee 2 дня назад +2

    Its about time the Mets moved on.If getting this guy is just to support a fan base, then the fans are cutting their own throats. Mr. Cohen went way out of his way to get us Soto and
    Stearns is doing his best at putting together a team...but this guy is really not worth what he thinks he is worth. I hope the Mets look elsewhere inclusive in their farm system cause
    without being cynical, I think Mr. Alonso thinks he is a bit more important than he really is!

      @johnstrawb3521 18 часов назад

      @99somerville No way, comrade. 3 years is the limit, and the AAV should be close to 20m. Alonso put up 2.1 fWAR in 2024, when an fWAR of 2.0 is around the minimum you want from a competent regular. He's already in steep decline and may never put up even one more season where he warrants a lineup slot.

  • @chingulin
    @chingulin 2 часа назад

    If he makes anything over 23 mil per over the next six years he still comes out ahead of that 158 deal. Considering the Mets offered him 3/90, supposedly, and that mlb average salary went up 6% in 2022 and 11% in 2023, even on short term deals he will almost certainly make more than that over the same 7 year span. Much more if he bounces back from that down year. My guess is if they let him walk the Mets will regret it. Give him 6/168, you wont find that kind of power now, much less in a couple of years when avg salaries will have gone up incrementally. Yanks gave Judge 40 per after 2022 when he was going into his age 31 season, and at todays salaries he would have gotten 50+ easy. Not comparing the two players just the way contracts keep going up year to year. In 2019, Harper signed for 13/330. There is zero chance you'd get a player of his caliber at that kind of money today. Which is why he is angling for more money now, though his contract runs through 2031, and even tough he's missed a ton of games since then and he's 32.
