Extremely badass man, I'd love to learn how to do this. I'm a mobile detailer but I want to expand, this is something I'm very interested in. You make it look too easy!! haha
Wow buddy ! , I have been an enthusiasts of aluminum polishing since 2001 when I purchased my 3rd Crotch Rocket (GSX-R).I invested back then as a hobby on a simple polishing kit and did the frame sanding by hand ... in 2003 I totaled my bike in an accident .since then I haven't been around aluminum to have the urge to polish again until 2014. my point is in 2014 I got my CDL , I drive a Pete 379 and since then I have been Chexking out U tube videos on how to DIY on Big Rig polishing ... I wanna be ur customer ... how do I purchase this starter kit for my Grinder !???? Chris from South TEXAS.
hey Christian, sorry took so long to respond youtube flagged your comment for some reason and I just saw it now. you can get my kit at www.dcsupershinestore.com thanks for watching!!!
Excellent job. I’ve been polishing by hand then went to a drill with the “Mother’s kit”. Now I’m ready to improve again. Can you explain to your viewers what to look for when sanding, when to change paper etc. Same for polishing, How much clay and at which intervals, When do clean pad with brush etc. Thanks for everything
That reflection is unreal! Out of curiosity, would a regular dewalt rotary polisher with the airway pads have the torque to knock down the sanding marks in the same way the grinder does? Thanks in advance.
Yes of course, I also use a 3000 rpm polisher on occasion, in hard to get spots where the beast of a grinder is hard to handle. Just takes a bit more time. Hope this helps
hey Dennis. Great videos as always bud. Just a question about the sanding stages. If you are doing 4 stages starting at 180 grit is there a danger of making the tank weak from removing so much material? Thnx . Much respect for your skills from the otherside of the pond.
Well there's always a risk of compromising aluminum when you sand. As a general rule you can sand ALOT... Been doing tanks for some customers for over 10 years and sand their tanks 1-2 a year and still no problems. Hope this helps
my tanks are not that bad so what grit sand paper be good to start with or should I use a steel wool pad and when doing the side is it best to sand with the grain or does it matter? nice video and tank looks great
+Jake Brake you can sand any way you want, using the proper grits and making sure the prior grit sander marks are out is whats important. If it's not bad I usually go 320, 400 and 600 Hope this helps
All wheels have “recommended “ speeds… depends on the manufacturer. Most are 3200-3500rpms. I cut using a 6000 rpm there is a risk of pads coming apart when doing this. I use quality pads and haven’t had one blow up on me in years. Sanding is pedal to the medal so usually max speed whether I’m using an orbital or my variable speed polisher. Hope this helps
Great vídeo Denis, I would love to find your kit within Europe or buy it on your site, but as you explain, the weight of the compound bar it's not a plus on the option. (Maybe I'll try just to buy your buffs) I got a few Strand Electric theatre lights from the 50'ies that as already been completely blast-cleaned using a high pressure nozzle system with micro glass beads, but now I don't know if it needs first to be sanded with your method or should I go straight to buff and polishing as you do here? Wainting for your reply. I've sent you a message via email but got no answer until now. Cheers from Lisbon (Portugal).
Great video! I have a heavy duty grinder that looks just like what you are using in the video. I like the pads you are displaying however when I go to the website I don't see the same center section. Are your pads different or do I need to add the metal center section to the pad you have in the video?
Chuck W your best bet is to get my heavy cut kit it has everything you need for the polishing process, you definitely need flanges to hold the pad to your grinder. Hope this helps
Looks very good indeed! I know how hard those big grinders are to hold for that long. You have build your arms up with all that polishing! I already have a couple of boxes of 10" and 12" diameter heavy duty yellow cutting buffs. Could they be controlled enough to use them for this process? Thanks, Tom
Good to hear...on occasion my job entails removing scratches from brass and stainless elevators...gonna order your kit and see if Menzerna is as good as I hear
SUPER SHINE!! :-) Outstanding Video I've got Aluminum Utility Trailer. would I need to take same steps. sanding concerns me. Wet and dry type paper? All Aluminum Shines like that? Cheers
I’ve seen guys use sanding discs only to polish a mirror finish . They use water only to cut then a final buff with a rag and some polish . They were literally making mirrors out of aluminum. It seems like he didn’t do as many steps and got a great shine . Why ?
hello from Abbotsford bc Canada just wondering what model Dewalt grinder your using.. and also if you could post a video of you using the smaller grinder in hard to get at places.. thanks for making such great tutorials..
Hank Wayne hey Wayne link for the kit is in the description above. Kits are $147 - $167 depending on the flange system you want. I charge $150+ per tank depending on how much sanding is needed and if they are on or off the truck. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching
Man I bought renegade rouge today. The brown, green, and blue with the zephyr orange, green and purple, and white airway pads. And that orange one is so damn difficult to use man. Its stuff and its hard to get a good finish it seems like it scuffs up a lot
Denis quick question..After I start the first cutting stage after sanding, why is my buffing wheel caked with what appears to be the aluminum I'm polishing? I'm asking cause if I don't use rake as you do on final cutting, it looks to be leaving tiny hair pin scratches you can only see with a light shining at certain angles.
+P Davidson many factors come into play, speed your polishing at, compounds and pads you're using. You need to remember tho that aluminum is a soft metal and getting every single line out is nearly impossible. You'll drive yourself crazy trying :)
+freebird1963 of course it will I polish pontoons all the time. No need to be nervous aluminum is soft and forgiving, if you screw up you just re-sand and re-polish. Besides if you follow my process with my kit you'll get the same results as me!

it looks allí right, but nothing like juanitos truck and trailer detail, the best mexican american guy who impress everybody, from México to kentucky ,I can said,Juan its the 1 ONE.
I use Menzerna so you don’t need a lot of compound when applying so I use very little more often every 2-3 passes I add compound. Hope that answers your question.
+Carlos Navarro if your handy with power tools you'll be fine with the 6000 if not using the 3000/3500 is recommended at first. But I sell tons of kits to people that have never polished and they go with the 6000 :)

Yes I use 10”
Great stuff Denis...I have a question for you...Is the blue Menzerna suitable for stainless or should I be using something else after the green?
The blue Menzerna is formulated for aluminum but I use it on all my stainless and it works awesome! :)
Good to hear...on occasion my job entails removing scratches from brass and stainless elevators...gonna order your kit and see if Menzerna is as good as I hear
Incredible work! But, ive always been wondering this; wont sanding cause rust to form?
Aluminum doesn’t rust! 😎
Ahhh... Right! But still, it would eventually oxidize once the protective layer of polish/ wax is gone right?
@@freakomin7379 yeah it's part of the beauty, knowing it's not forever and how much work it takes to do I guess ???
Great videos I always enjoy watching! Just out of curiosity, can the airway wheels be used on a high-rpm drill instead of a grinder? Thanks.
Technically yes just not sure you'd get enough torque out of a drill.
What is polishing paste using in the end? Bottle doesn’t look like pro40? Btw great work keep up! Really like your videos!
Lol ya I said pro-40 and grabbed white diamond. I don’t use either anymore
Flash metal polish is what I use... much better product
Yeah I wanted to ask why u use the white diamond when you mention pro 40
SUPER SHINE!! :-) Outstanding Video
I've got Aluminum Utility Trailer.
would I need to take same steps.
sanding concerns me.
Wet and dry type paper?
All Aluminum Shines like that?

+Christos Tatarakis yes all aluminum is the same process, I sand dry with aluminum oxide sand paper using a DA

It sure what you’re asking! 😳
Would you please let me know what kind of brand do you use for a "Fast Cut Pad" around 20 sec from your video?
Hey Dennis, is there an instruction video on the paint polishing supplies from your sight?
Not yet I'm working on a few other videos that will be available soon
Looks awesome! What would you have charged for a tank like that?
This particular tank $600 because of the amount of sanding tanks that are off the truck are normally $400
hello from Abbotsford bc Canada
just wondering what model Dewalt grinder your using..
and also if you could post a video of you using the smaller grinder in hard to get at places..
thanks for making such great tutorials..
Dewalt 28499X is what I do 98% of my work with, 849x for tight spots
best video on youtube
Thanks man appreciate that!
Which grits for sanding were used in this process, Dennis?
Normal grits for me are 320, 400, 600 and 1000 I’ll use 180 to start if it’s really bad. Hope this helps
DCSuperShine Thanks! Does 1000 grit finish down better than 600 with 439T?
.good afternoon, where do you get those cloth discs? how much they cost? Could you send them to Puebla Mexico?
How much do you charge for that tank ?
This tank was $400 if I remember correctly:)
How does one go about getting a tank client ? I’ve been doing rims for a while now but I’m ready for tanks , where do I even began to search?

good work man ,you need a bucket to set on, easy on the knees
Hehe ya I have rolling bench that I use
thats some serious scratches!! How long would it take you to do that tank in the video from start to finish?
+Mountprospect1 this tank took me roughly 3 hours to complete
so $500 a tank is fair. ;)
How much could I charge someone to buff both tanks? might be worth buying couple kits from you. Thanks man, keep up the good work.
Hank Wayne hey Wayne link for the kit is in the description above. Kits are $147 - $167 depending on the flange system you want. I charge $150+ per tank depending on how much sanding is needed and if they are on or off the truck. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching
Hank Wayne also you can easily do 8-10 tanks with one kit.
Okay thanks! Also, wondering how much you charge per big rig wheels, front style wheel and the rear style wheel.
How long does it take to do the complete tank? A please wear gloves that polish and aluminum looks very toxic
Depends on the tank usually 1-3 hours
What will happen if you skip sanding down the tank and go straight to buffing
Less clarity, kinda of a dull to “ok” shine depending on how bad the tank is
Man I bought renegade rouge today. The brown, green, and blue with the zephyr orange, green and purple, and white airway pads. And that orange one is so damn difficult to use man. Its stuff and its hard to get a good finish it seems like it scuffs up a lot
Well unfortunately you bought all the wrong stuff!
can you please do a tread step video either international, KW etc.
Working on several new videos, coming soon :)
Looks Great! Hard, time consuming work! I wouldn't do one of those tanks for under $250.00 bucks.
