Well spotted. The tune is a variant of that also commonly used for the folk song The Lakes of Pontchartrain and it belongs to the same Irish melody-family as a song variously known as On the Trail of the Buffalo / Buffalo Skinners / The Hills of Mexico / The State of Arkansas / Boggus Creek.
I once saw a video here on youtube, when Paul Brady was telling how Bob Dylan tried to learn to play this tune, and that he didn't find it so easy. And then I understood the connection between the 2 songs. Because I learned to know "Lily of the west" by Bob Dylan quite early, never knowing that it wasn't his composition. 😉
