Some how, i punch in one word and transition from Texas music (Freddie Fender) to HHF!. i had the awesome experience to catch them in downtown Denver, CO, USA - summer of 1993. Free show, city park of some sort, and one band member didn't have passport. End Result! Great Show, and i have been a Hot House Fan ever since! Love to all the fans and to the power of music! No, but it is a good version, a little bit soft for me. Dylan's version is head and shoulders above it. He is telling a tale, and I believe it and am there with him.
Such a good song, everyone wants to sing it, from Dylan to Daniel. I sing it in the bath. Such a great song all versions, i love em all, keep singing!!!!!
this song was recorded for a BBC/ RTE show called "Bringing It All Back Home." If anyone has the clip from the show please upload it. It is such a haunting and emotional song. This song can be found on double cd soundtrack to the series of the same name. it's well worth adding to your collection.
I,'ve asked that question myself. The sheer amount of talent on this island and it's getting better by the year. There is an explanation but I do not have it.
It is a dam good version. It was totally different, from Paul Brady's and Christy Moores version. This was also important. The Hothouse Flowers, always had great respect for our music and song tradition.
Michael Dineen All this talk about "our" music and "our" tradition isn't healthy- as Liam himself once said: "Traditional music doesn't belong to me - I belong to it!"

Wow an amazing version first time i heard this i was used to paul bradys version but i think liam o maonlai's is better. Think ill be using this version when singing it cheers dude ;)
The definition of cultural appropriation: Taking a folk song from Louisiana... Slap an Irish twist on it because of a pop cover in the 70s that had marginal success... Throw up a picture of the Irish coastline despite the song literally being set in the Louisiana swamps... Then pass it off as if everything about what I just wrote was normal.
Would there even be folk songs from Louisiana if it wasn't musicians from one genre finding inspiration from musicians of another? This a respectful rendition by some excellent performers. Try to enjoy!
Unrecognizable- This is a terrible version of this song- its like a choirboy singing when the whole spirit of this song begs it to be catarwhalled like a sea shanty!
the best version of this song i ever heard
Just seen the flowers perform this live last night. Filled my heart ❤ Amazing.
Fantastic band. Had the pleasure of sharing a taxi from Dublin Airport with Liam on All Ireland final day 2017
Phenomenal. Beyond words.....!
Stunning version of a beautiful song, been a favourite for years, Liam absolutely nails it !
Got to see them play it live in Santa Barbara, California after Liam asked the audience for any request. I yelled this one out....thanks Liam!

It doesn't get any better. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for posting this......the best version I have heard'
I came across it on the TV programme "Bringing it all Back Home"
I first heard it on a Disney special about Irish music in America in about 1995.
by far the finest version thanks
It's Lìam's amazing vòìce and the sax which give this version a dimension of its own
No, but it is a good version, a little bit soft for me.
Dylan's version is head and shoulders above it.

@@torvilasulvstle362 No - you and Dylan got lost - but you have each other for company and that's a consolation - Tis Xmas, be of good cheer
@@cahillgreg Good Xmas to you too!
The man from Strabane (Brady) does an excellent version but this is tops! The sax and piano steals it.
When listening an artist I just listen and do not 'compare'...this is terrific.
this song was made for him...the music lets the vocals tell you the story off the song..
Liam's voice is the embodiment of folk
Finally, this beautiful song from Hot House Flowers. The sax is amazing. Thank you so much for posting.
Leo Barnes sex plays beautifully off Liam's vocals :)
Thanks for sharing joe ....beautiful xx
Such a good song, everyone wants to sing it, from Dylan to Daniel. I sing it in the bath.

Kindness and without expectation, why don't we sing about more? Well we have this song, and there is no better version than this.
beautiful vision of this song....loving it : )
How is that there are so many great Irish bands and singer/songwriters?
I,'ve asked that question myself. The sheer amount of talent on this island and it's getting better by the year. There is an explanation but I do not have it.
we come from a nation of singer songwriters :) it really has carried through the years
The Irish Celtic, and as such throughout their history always the performing arts. It' s genetic.

My Favourite Version since i heard on the documentary "Bringing it all home" thanks for uploading....compaverick
An excellent double tape of that documentary has long gone - but iTunes might be worth a trawl?
Beautiful, very haunting, wish I was standing on that beach dreaming

True
Gigi Zabel
It was just another way' of referring to the music we have in Ireland.
Michael Dineen
All this talk about "our" music and "our" tradition isn't healthy- as Liam himself once said: "Traditional music doesn't belong to me - I belong to it!"
Personally I don't hear where the major difference is in this version. He sings the melody the same way PBrady does.
Liam so unique you all over - first time hearing it & will not be my last
Coastal scenes of Ireland but singing about Louisiana. There you have it.
Also heard this on the BBC/RTE documentary series back in the 90's. I wish they'd re-run that sometime.
Bringing it all back home :)
Still listening 2021
Well I was on Ballyconneely Beach near Clifden recently and hanker after that too

Is that Downhill Strand Co. Londonderry?...🤔

Botney band
Really nice version, but its cadence and rhythm is exactly like Paul Bradys version. Think Paul bradys version is what made this song what it is.
Unrecognizable- This is a terrible version of this song- its like a choirboy singing when the whole spirit of this song begs it to be catarwhalled like a sea shanty!
