    In 2008, India had selected GE engine to power LCA . We had enough time to start a local production here in India. But all of our order placed like AD-HOC basis. IAF placed small orders in batch by batch on ad-hoc basis. We yet not has clear long term planning. IAF is treating LCA as backup plan rather as primary plan.

      Iaf was serious for Tejas until 2014 it was manohar parikar who forced iaf to induct Tejas in current form. Iaf was intrested in mrfa more

    If the fact that GE could not deliver the 404 engines was known beforehand, how come HAL committed delivery of the Tejas Mk1A by early 2024 which is now getting postponed ? We need a person like Ajit Doval to sort out matters with GE.

    In my opinion the general population should be able to directly donate into our engine development fund so that they can work even without government.
    There are a lot of people who will willingly give money to them if it goes straight to the scientist and not govt babus and/or politicians.

    One wonders how other nations such as South Korea or Turkiye are able to successfully make fighters whilst we are still grappling with the best solution. It is now becoming critical so tapping options on fast track is a must including looking at SAAB

    For short term requirements one could continue with ge-404 engines for long term requirements as of now we have three aircraft engines which are assembled /manufactured in India with varying degree of indigenization and ip rights they are
    1) kaveri engine 2) al-31 fp engines
    3) rd-33 engines we need to improve/upgrade/indeginize these aircraft engines for our various requirements just as china has done so.

    Can you share thoughts with below points:
    1. Scrap MRFA with Rafaels as they are 4.5 gen, they already have too many orders and we are already building them with LCA mk2 (Increase the pace to match Rafael delivery).
    2. Buy small batch of 5th gen fighters from Russia to bridge gap with Pakistan and China capabilities, from saved money of MRFA
    3. Go with local manufacturing of GE engines be it for LCA mk1/mk2. Give GE tax break and other incentives like raw material from Russia for this. May be a loss for now but good for futur
    4. Keep enhancing Kaveri engine as future replacement for LCA mk1/mk2 as an option. Use current engine for drones/TEDBF.
    5. Go with Rolls-Royce ( we are already ditched by GE and Frenxh will never share technology after MRFA is scraaped) to build 5/6 gen engine with local manufacturing and patents for future capabilities.
    Plz share your thoughts. I know seems simple.

    Ek 4 engine FTB, IL-76 class ka aircraft aur ek Su30/Mig29 class ka aircraft zaroori hai testing ke liye.

    At Home: Koi engine hai kya engine, humare basic number of squadron pure karna hai 20 saal tak, engine de do engine!
    What a joke we are making of ourselves, infront of the world. Remember, this is what happens when you treat your scientists and R&D department like crap.
    Instead of providing funds to research and scientists, you are using our tax money to distribute freebies to women, farmers and minorities. Stop it! Moreover, remove kachra patti people from these departments. And then you will start seeing success. Hoping for a change.

      I once met an ISRO scientist ( just then retired, initially wasn't telling anything about himself ). i asked him directly " why do we....?"
      He gave an example from ISRO itself & said " videsh ghoomne ka laalach hota. agar videsho se collaborate karte hain to videsh ghoomt hain, mehnat bhi nahi karni padti. Indigenous banayenge to mehnat bhi karnu padegi & videsh bhi nahi ja payenge ".
      He said "you are a very decent person, you won't understand" & he was right - it took me a decade to understand that he meant bribe from foreign nations ; not just foreign trip.

      The old Kaveri engine is very heavy in comparison to the thrust it produces so the dual engine is not the solution but making the engine less heavy is while increasing thrust to 90kN+

    Perhaps the most balanced view. The GE 404s might be delayed but they will come eventually. It would be prudent to go for 404 assembly along with the proposed 414 assembly. However it is important to continue the Kaveri development, even if it means pumping more funds.

    Sir can you explain why we went for F404 when we could go for F414. If F404 production line was stopped.
    External configuration of engine being the same. HAL only required to make LCA bigger to accommodate more fuel and this could be done from 2015-now for mk1a

      @@AlphaDefenseHindi would not the logical step be to upgrade the hangers after all even the MK2 would be bigger.
      I think a little vision would have increased the capabilities and the export potential of MK 1A it would have been in HALs on interest. Maybe an upselling also to the IAF

    In march Alpha Defence team was saying that they have seen air trials of Tejas Mk 1A aircraft and it will be delivered before 31st March. Its august now and the same aircraft is not delivered. Now alpha team says that delay is because of lack of engines. Can you guys tell what stops HAL to deliver the aircraft which has doing air-trails in march ? Is it also because of engine delay??
    Its shameful that alpha defence team is busy hiding the inefficiencies of HAL and trying to pass the buck to GE

    Sir If GE 404 IN 20 is having potential further than presently order qty of 99 for 91 for follow on Mk1A ..and spare engines .. and maintenance needs for all those.. Why can't the 404 be gradually produced in India at the same facility where 414s are to be manufactured?

    Man me bs ek baat ka dar ban gaya he Sukhoi ke engine ka kam chal raha he Jaguar purane ho gaye he mirage ke spare parts ke liye ham marmat kr rahe he mig 29 ka duniya janati he tejas mark 1 delay chal raha he mark 2 ka ata pata nahi he amca to bs ek sapna he kaise agar war hui to ham survive karnge ? squadrons kam hoti ja rahi he jo bahar se jet kharidenge unka bhi ata pata nahi he itani buri halath ho chuki he iaf ki 😔 bhagvan bachye is desh ko aur indian air force ko....... upar se ek enemy operational 5th gen use kr raha aur dusra unpe traning 🙂

    With older metallurgy, if Kaveri had achieved dry thrust of around 49kN and wet thrust of 73kN, then we can hope that with new metallurgy and with some improvements, it will achieve 52-54 kN of dry thrust, and 85kN+ wet thrust with improved afterburner varient.     Why Kanjus babus and IAF didnt order bigger numbers of Tejas with Initial order before GE shutdown the F404 assembly. It was during the Trump govt they were delivered. Nothing delivered after 2021 . You cannot optimize when it comes to defense procurement like this.

    Indigenousation or Make in India or eco-system takes decades. 100% Indigenousation never possible to any country.
    If design and development of a product is home grown with above 50% is okay for any country.
    Regarding engine of any kinetic products means changes in design, mission computer and integrity of other components.
    All are time consuming.
