I was in last night too - I really love what they creating. It is like old classic EQ but the night sky, lighting (sunsets and sunrise, wow!), water effects look so amazing. I was having some major nostalgia hits with the combat chat, commands, spell book and everything else. Still praying this and Pantheon can get out some release versions in the next few years :) I need these games ! Keep up the work RedBeard, love your channel.
The water and sunsets....(and moonrise!) they were so cool. And even lighting off in the distance. There was a creepy green glow building that I really wanted to go see. I felt like I wanted to explore and I had no idea where I was or where I was going. IT was great.
And that spell buff animation!! so many memories.

Had so much fun I almost forgot it was a playtest as I went off collecting skeleton femurs for my SK quest. This game honestly has that original EQ feel. No maps, large zones, no quest markers, I love it. Even the music has an EQ feel. Great stuff!
I just loved exploring. It was so much fun. Through the stream there were two times where I was like "Ok I'm going to quit" but then I got distracted by something I wanted to try or go see and then another 30 or 40 minutes passed.
There is trade between cities and it's insane to think people havnt mapped them and then sell them like ffxi did. I get the hc aspect but there should be maps for purchase if you find the guy selling them.
I had a blast playing this. And watching their streams and videos the past few weeks has been so entertaining. I'm hooked!

M&M is the most promising MMO on the radar in my book. Had a blast playing in the test all weekend
I’ll admit I had fallen off the M&M bandwagon, however Red, your stream got me all excited again for this project!
The dynamic lighting, particle and water effects are just gorgeous! The music is excellent!

Pledged for Pantheon and lost my account because its been over 10 years...
Lots of promise. All of my issues turned out to be the result of understandable server lag (delays in dragging items from the spellbook to the hotbars). Music and visuals (that water!) are top notch for the style of game and moody. Combat is pretty brutal, it was fun watching our 4 man group getting taken out by bats and jackals early on. It's a group game alright. The stand out is of course the music, it's simply magical.
My friends had so much fun with the fri/sat playtest!!!
Looks super cool... Keep the vibes strong and please have a PVP server at actual launch in the future!

I was having strong P99 flashbacks, but lag aside what I got experience was a lot of fun, and definitely has me hyped up for the future of the project. Was real cool to see you on there as well!
Got in for a couple hours was fun for what it was. I see the potential. 100% Everquest feels. Love it. Manage to kill a snake, rat and Skelly. Lol explored a bunch. Excited to see more in the future.

I'm building an RPG app to gamify self-care and there's going to be a ton of easter eggs for those who played these kind of games. Anyone else remember that "play as a monster" mode EQ had back before shrouds? You got to play as a moss snake or a low level orc until you died.

Does anyone know if they will implement the monster factions similar to EQ and quests for evil or good to improve faction for various areas?
This game looks really awesome! I adore, absolutely ADORE Everquest, specifically p1999, and this looks very similar. I hope that they do well and I will be sure to check it out!
I really think the no map system is a bit of a bridge too far...having said that, it would be cool to have a cartography skill, where you level it up, and you explore, and the game builds you your own in game map, based only off what you have literally explored and discovered with that character. And again the cartography skill has to be high enough to allow you to map the level of the zone. So if your level 10 cartography skill and its a level 50 zone, you cant map it.
I really dont think the no map mechanic is a good idea, there are workarounds for it, and I think my idea is a good example of how to do it, without making it easy, and even making it fun and a part of gameply.
Anyways this is just IMO, so please dont anyone need to take it personally or offense, just my take on it. thanks.
They do have a cartography system but I'm not certain exactly how it'll be implemented yet. I like your idea though!

Just about 25 mins in.. several of the mechanics remind me of early EQ, especially with the spell effects.. i'm definitely feeling it as you were. Very excited to see how things go with this game. I can't say i've felt that same excitement for a game in a long time..
The moment I saw the buff effects it was just a huge nostalgia hit despite being a new game. I'm excited for them to open up for more gameplay specific testing in the future.
What is the best style of combat? Everquest style damage/delay, souls-like real time, turn based, etc?
Best is very relative, I think. For me personally, I like tactical combat so I like it slowed down a bit with more emphasis on individual actions with longer term effects. There are others, though, that prefer much faster less individually impactful combat and/or combo based combat.
The funny thing is I like Souls-like combat I think because it's both impactful and tactical while also giving some freedom to move around and flow.
Have you looked at Project Gorgon?
one thing i hope they do different from eq is to give a real description of what the spells do

ok I can not wait for this. Hell, I think this will be out before Pantheon and I think that is going to be Pantheon's downfall. Other games will be out before it that are just as good, if not better.

I haven’t been watching this mmo’s development for long but its very EQ like. I would even go as far to say its more EQ like then Pantheon. But I didn’t see a warrior class and that pains the MT inside me.
My guess would be the fighter might take that roll. This is their current class list from the website:

Does this using any of existing engines like Unreal 4, or is all made in house? Truly do hope this guys gonna work faster than Pantheon...

Pantheon is more modern, imo. It's it's own thing that looks heavily at classic MMOs like Everquest. Monsters and Memories so far feels a lot like the 1999 EQ experience. Both games could be great in their own ways.
Not gonna lie, First look on this is hum .....how to put this in a non-supermegabad way ..... very very early in its development.Mega laggy, graphics are early 2000s at best and combat is in its purest basic forms. No Cities are stucturally made either so far, NPCs and quests isnt a thing yet either. The UI is indeed reminescent of EQ albeit very barebones as of now and also needs alot of love before its considered even close to done.
Id say this game has potential to become an MMO that could be a contendant to EQ ..... like in 3-4 years from now when its been HEAVILY worked on by i hope skilled Devs who wont run out of funds halfway thru. I'll keep a watchful eye on its development in the future to see if its going in the right direction or not. Either way thanks Redbeard to introducing me to this who knows maybe it'll turn out good in the end i honestly hope so ... untill then theres always EQ i guess right :p
Oh it is absolutely very early in development. They were kind enough to let us stream it this early but this was a server test not so much a gameplay test. All my feedback to their team was based off the server.
I think this could be an MMO that has a small but passionate audience. It's definitely hitting the classic MMO note for a lot of people. But yeah it's probably still quite a ways off, lots of work still to go but I'm impressed by what they've done so far.

I think this game has potential but it's such a long way to have a finished game. I just hope it comes to fruition.

The" darkness" is awesome but i fear that people will "demand" that change and i will be sad when they "give in 80% of people who complain" when the darkness is what will make the game standout especially if there is a "item way to make the "darkness" proper with light sources, but still keep the awesome sky/darkness.... I hope they don't "change" their gameplay/lore...cause of tiny little "darkness"....Thanks for this....Peace.....
As long as light sources can be found and they perhaps brighten up cities a little bit I think you can have a really good adventure with exploration when darkness being its own enemy.

I think it’s great that new mmo are coming out that are inspired by EQ. Personally, EQ will probably be my last MMO. I don’t need anything new, because EQ p1999 is still giving me everything I want in a game.
That said, I would like to see what happens with this new game.
The ties to EQ with this game are apparent from the top down with the team making it. I'm excited to see what comes of it.

If they add light sources and/or race/class specific eyesight I think it could add a lot to the game. I remember picking a Dark elf in EQ just for Ultravasion.

Actually, despite what you say, that game does exist. Monsters and Memories gave me the same feeling I had playing EQ back in 1999. Project 1999 also gives the same feeling. Why do you think this is impossible???
So much like EQ its uncanny, except the graphics look better starting out as opposed to og EQ.
That's why I landed on "EQ 1.5." It feels very similar in many good ways. No surprise that the lead dev is from EQ.
So far, this game looks like they just ripped out assets from EQ and are using them to make their own fan made game. I'm all for making a game that captures some of that orignal EQ magic but at the same time, they have to make it their own.
Is this game on Roblox? because I heard somewhere that it was. If so, man, I REALLY underestimated what Roblox was capable of creating.

my main problem with the game is it just feels like an identical clone to EQ, which for some may be fine, but for me everquest was unique for its time and in a lot of ways is still unique today because of its more original ideas. I'm not sure how id feel about "everquest, but in a different engine".. i feel like id rather just play everquest.
dude.... you literally the first 30mins of this video i watched you try to fight the basic shit outside of what looks to be a starting zone.... and every time you died LMAO.... i never really got into EQ but i did play EQOA for the PS2 which as funny as that is to say it still was a EverQuest game it was just on the PS2 and never got re released from that sadly and i guarantee it was one of the best MMO's anyone would of ever played... it had so many amazing features in the game and customizing your character was pretty bad ass when it came to CM points for a PS2 game it was freaking amazing how big it was and just the fact it was a MMO on the freaking PS2..... if i am not mistaken i think it was a very first Console MMO but i might be wrong... anyways good ol SOE shut that game down in like 2013.... and ever since then i have 1 hated SOE with a massive passion and 2 i have never been able to get back into another MMO just for the simple fact im scared the greedy companies will just shut the game down years later and erase all of your hard work and memories..... screw SOE..... this game not gonna lie looks like hot garbage... but it does have that old school look... and i know this test is not to show of graphics lol i just found it hilarious you kept dying to literally the starting shit..... for sure looks like a old school MMO they nailed that lol
I tried! lol. There's a point where I jump off a building...the results are comical enough I made a short out of it.
I'm not sure if EQOA was the first console MMO ever but it was the first console MMO I ever knew of. I tried to get it to work with my PS2 but couldn't get the network connection to work and eventually gave up and just went back to EQ and SWG (another game that got shut down)
I know there's a fan project with EQOA but its got a long road ahead but if it ever comes to fruition I'll play it in a heartbeat.

Getting a kick out of watching people complain about how dark it is… clearly they never played a human in eq1, the night struggle was real. Haha
so ummm did they make a game engine that any1 could use? why don't they have these employees re make ever quest in their new game engine they they away until just randomly an employee says " i cant find anything that needs to be retendered into this engine and they actually update the entire game with people in the office filling in "board" time.

This game obviously has a really far way to go. It's newer and yet looks worse thank Everquest. It seems like they're still working on the mechanics more than the aesthetics but I hope to see zones that genuinely look like places I want to explore. Currently though they look very bland and boring.
Oh definitely. I think they're still very much in the proof of concept phase though they have made some significant updates since this. I plan to jump in again for the longer test in December.

This game actually looks really good. Go watch the updates these guys have been churning out, while doing it on the side. These devs are working full time jobs and coming back to make the game in their off time. Its really, really impressive just seeing how much they are getting done with that kind of restriction, and no funding. This looks like the real deal boys. An old school MMO that is actually going to come out. Not the fake shit we've been handed by other devs getting jack done in 10 years.
Game needs more going on with it zones. All seem so far is 🏜 areas...
