    1. All EQ wizard needed was to be combined with EQ mage. The op DnD wizard was essentially split into 3 classes (wizard, mage, enchanter) and as a result none of them feel complete... especially wizard and mage. Enchanter is powerful in many situations, but still feels incomplete from lack of versatility.
    Combine wizard & mage. Return utility to the wizard archetype with item summoning, player summoning, elemental debuffs & damage shields. Get some mana recovery with mod rods. Reduce pet damage down to mildly below necro/bst, but keep pet tankability similar or higher than necro/bst and keep pet utility effects higher than necro/bst pets.
    Consolidate pet lines from 4 to 2. Fire and water, water is tank, procs root, and pb aoe snares at 25% health loss intervals... fire backstabs, procs stun, has damage shield. Differentiate pets further with a few lines of mutually exclusive pet buffs... instead of a single pet buff line that just puts them on roids. Offensive pet buff (haste + stats), defensive (hp, ac, resists, + agro), & utility buff (health/mana regen aura).
    2. If anything should be an "execute class" it's shadowknight. Remove their weak necro mana regen buff & replace it with execute spell. Execute does more damage the more health is missing on target & returns more mana & health the harder it overkills the target. Incentivizing skilled players to time their execute so it hits at the lowest health level.
    3. Enchanter does 4 things. Charm, Haste, Clarity, Mez. A powerful class, but also a situational one that most benefits weak groups. It's not uncommon for enchanters to have difficulty contributing to strong groups, strangely. With a quality puller... crowd control is relegated to emergencies. With long duration mana regen buffs, there's no strict need for enchanter actually in the group. Haste is useful in melee heavy groups, but it's just a buff you cast occasionally & overlaps with shm & bst.
    That leaves charm as their way of contributing to the group and it is a powerful way when it can be used and when its managed well... but again in strong groups it's often unusable as the difficulty of enemies is so high they either cannot be charmed or the danger of charming them isn't worth the risk.
    Your instinct is right that they need another way to play the game besides buffbot, mez, & charm.
    My idea is "clone illusions" or doppelgangers, allowing the enchanter to clone a party member for a time. Enchanter takes direct control of the doppel and casts whatever spells were loaded using the enchanter's mana in addition to normal melee. This is used to "double up" certain roles as needed, allowing the enchanter to adapt to the situation and contribute proportional to their party's strength as well as their own situational awareness. Need to double up on heals? Clone the cleric. Need more DPS? Clone the rogue. Need a second tank? Clone the shadowknight.
    5. Shamans were also a bit too good at everything and druids a bit too narrowly defined. Shaman elemental resist debuff line should be moved to druids. Keep poison/disease resist debuff on shaman. Druid animal charm should be upgraded to same capacities as enchanter charm and they should get elemental/summoned charm to expand their capacity.
    Make cannibalize hit much harder and on a 1m cooldown rather than requiring constant spam. Same hp to mana throughput, but without the spam... like the later AA versions.
    6. Honestly, beastlord always felt weird to me considering shamans were never great with beasts. Had weak ghost wolf and a crap charm animal. Between, ranger, druid, shaman, & bst there's at least one too many "nature" classes. At the risk of being too "WoW"... ranger is the class that makes sense to have a dedicated pet (fantasy lore-wise) and the class from EQ that needed the boost the most (at least in classic/kunark EQ days when rangers were bottom tier).

    • @Nickelback8469
      @Nickelback8469 Год назад +1

      I think there’s room for shaman, Beastlord, Ranger, and Druid. Shamans have some nature themes, but they’re more spiritual and are a cross between Druids and clerics. Beastlord I see as a class that continues with the spiritual flavor like the Shaman and diverges enough from the Ranger to merit its own class

    • @yunggolem4687
      @yunggolem4687 Год назад +1

      @@Nickelback8469 There's room, but I think to warrant the manhours to implement Bst and Bst specific content, it would need to be redesigned to make it more interesting rather than basically a weaker shaman with a stronger pet.
      Problem is most of the obvious gameplay mechanics that fit within the "animal spirit/nature" theme are already occupied by Druid, Shaman, and Ranger.
      Given the name (Beastlord) it would make sense to implement some kind of beast taming system rather than the race-derived EQ-style pets. That could be interesting if the variety between beast pets was significant enough to matter and different beasts had situational strengths, incentivizing you to switch between them rather than just pick the best one and use it forever.

    • @Nickelback8469
      @Nickelback8469 Год назад +1

      @@yunggolem4687 I’m rarely a fan of taming in games, but I could see it working like how charming in EQ did, such as with a spell or ability that takes an animal and binds it to you as your pet. They should still have a backup summonable pet for zones without animals, maybe not as strong as charmed ones, but that way the devs don’t have to include animals in every zone in order to balance the class.

    • @yunggolem4687
      @yunggolem4687 Год назад +1

      @@Nickelback8469 could be a charm system, though charm is basically the same as taming but more situational and risky. Plus charm is already present with enchanters and druids so it would really just be more of the same. Why should bst exist as a bst charming class when druid already does? Still bst wouldn't have anything significant of their own.
      But you are right that taming is usually boring, safe, and mostly cosmetic the way it is commonly implemented in games like WoW... or gamebreakingly overpowered such as the way it was originally implemented in SWG. Difficult to balance, especially without causing unnecessary frustration or grind.
      In the first case it lacks risk & reward, there are no risks & thus reward is minor. The different pet types matter little other than one or two occasionally used special abilities like silence or bleed. The second case the reward dramatically outclasses the risks, causing the risks to not really matter.
      What's needed is a proper balance of risk & reward, more similar to the risk/reward of EQ charm which is very powerful but also requires great risk management since enchanters are fairly squishy. The "risk" can't just be a predictable cost like a "pet durability" type injury system or something like that, because that just becomes an annoying unfun management system. To be interesting it must be something that entices you to opt in with a reward, but subjects you to significant cost if you fail to manage the risk well.
      I was thinking maybe something like two pet modes... a safe mode where it operates in the "WoW" mode as a generic version of that creature type scaled to your level and a secondary mode which activates all of it's special abilities & spells that are present on the untamed creature, but if it is killed while in this mode it is either permadeath or a long duration "penalty box" for recovery before it can be used again. Basically it's out of commission for the rest of that gaming session, at least 12h recovery time. If pets can be leveled up or otherwise invested significantly in, pokemon style, it would be difficult to justify a true permadeath. Frustration of loss simply outweighs the emotional value of stakes in that case.
      An imperfect idea, but I think it could be massaged into a decent way to add some risk/reward dynamic and make taming less boring. Bst would also need ways to actively manage the risk of their fully active pet being killed too so that if it happens it is mostly due to a failure of the player rather than random chance.

    A blind ability for rogues that makes melee enemies more likely to miss would be really cool. Also, you can't forget traps for rogues (or the ability to disarm traps). I just really hope that in general, classes are more active and satisfying to play than they were in traditional MMOs such as Everquest.

Another idea (to make each rogue more unique)is the ability to choose being right handed, left handed or ambidexterity during character creation. Each with their cons/pros

    Love the idea of musical ornaments for the bard. I think having those would be a great solution to the constant demand to twist songs in EQ. If a single song has a diverse/powerful effect, then twisting isn't as necessary.

    Love this guys ideas. Pure nerd stuff, the true heart of this genre and why it was so fun. Watching the progress has been pretty amazing considering its part time work with no funding. You guys are doing it right, self motivated, mod style(but more complex obviously), and that always made the MOST fun games. Dota, Everquest, TF, Portal, CS, all passion projects from mods or greenlit with little to no oversight closer to a favor. This gives me that feel.
    ALSO LOVE the idea of the Paladin choosing between a group heal attack vs a pure damage/threat based attack. I want decisions like those, I love them so much. The strategy within the game is so important and EQ somewhat lacked that, especially as things became "Complete heal spam" "Necro mana battery spam" "Shaman slow spam" "Tank press taunt afk" It just became so one dimensional, but new MMOs are all about rotations with very little to no choice. They want a flow, but not any real strategy. Id love the EQ formula but with a good dose of choices where you can play incorrectly. That is addictive, its like a game of chess inside my exploration/dungeon simulator and dear god. Its sexy man. Glad to hear you guys are thinking in that way!

    Also always thought it would be cool it there was a class called a watcher (or something to that effect). The role would be a strategic one where it gave cues critical to group play such as incoming attacks, Agro switches, or even was a raid specific class that was necessary for raid battles (bosses having multiple boss fight scenarios) and there skill trees built on detecting the means of gaining the strategic advantage and the player would be charged with communicating the observations to the team. No sure how to describe in a post but something to build ina social aspect to the game

    Instead of just adding melody to bard, I'd rather have it set so if you play a rotation x amount of times, it may repeat x amount of times. A good balance with twisting and not getting wrist pain.

    I like the idea of necromancer as a swarm class. I mean that's kind of their class fantasy, having an army of mindless dead doing your bidding for you. Raise the dead also sounds sweet on Necro. Like maybe a short duration charm that you can only use on corpses of defeated enemies? That sounds so badass (If it's not a balancing nightmare). Kind of like Diablo 2 necromancer ability "Revive"

    Really should take a look at the Vanguard Bard's Song Composition...I think it would pair perfectly with your concept of keeping it an 'active' class.
    As a bard for many years on several games, the twisting is just tedium and carpal tunnel, so the ability to customize and compose a song is great, but it does lose activity and creates a temptation to offer other active uses. In Vanguard, for example, they went higher DPS and activated abilities, which then brings down the power of the songs IMO because the class can already do so much.
    I would imagine a composed song that can just stay up (take away the energy management from Vanguard's version) and active abilities that amplify whatever song is playing with a resource cost, thus letting the resource drain be short-term and needs based, would be ideal.
    tl;dr Passive (Vanguard Bard Song Composition - Resource cost) + Active (amplification + Resource cost)

    im concerned about combat balanceing with purists vs hyrbyds. since this isnt a table top environment combat is a much bigger role than say role play. so if a class doesnt have something a party desires then they quickly become the joke or hated class. ahh for example the ranger vs archer vs melee dps issue. 1 problem is as an mmo all classes shoulndt really just be solo only classes or you get locked out of content. so now if you make ranger to strong theres not much point in having archer or pure melee dps. but if you flip that then ranger becomes a joke. between the two makeing ranger as strong as both the melee and archer class is the better option in my opinion, as it gives you more options for play-style. personally i think going for a {less is more} approach could give a big roster of classes feel more unique . idk what you all think any one else concerned or have cool ideas

    • @Nickelback8469
      @Nickelback8469 Год назад +3

      I think that’s more of a Raiding problem than a grouping problem. In a grouping context a Ranger might not always be ideal, but can cover as an off tank, a melee DPS, a ranged DPS, and an off healer/utility class with their combination of damage, durability, and Druid spells.
      In a Raid when you have enough characters to cover all roles, efficiency is more valuable. When with a limited number of players, there’s a lot more value in flexibility.

    Comments are enabled so it seems as though you're looking for feedback. So, here it is. I only play casters, and of those types, I prefer wizards/sorcerers. As articulated in this video, your wizard sounds like the same broken wizard class of EQ. For all the talk about the social element of EQ, my experience was that I was on my own post 20. Why? Mana starved, as you put it. A group slot given to a wizard instead of a rogue, or other non-mana dependent class, was a wasted group slot. I single pull root-n-nuke soled until I could reliably quad at 52. It took me a year to reach 60 - having started just after Velious. Post 20, the first group I got was to a raid with my shiny new guild who'd had no use for me until I was 60. I will not go through that again. Ever. The first time I had made a friend that I chatted with between pulls, who was also a soloing wizard.
    So go ahead with your plan and you can count me out. Focus on your precious melee classes if you like. I won't be part of it.

    The enchanter, bard and spellblade have so much attention. Elementalist it's like, "Elements and stuff". Inquisitor, it's like, "Hybrid, or something. We'll figure it out." Shaman, it's like, "You do 2 things". Poor shamen can't even change the weather. That's exclusively druid for some reason even though that is one of the main functions of a shaman.
    I hate the idea of fighter "shouts". Fighters should feel flat and basic and auto-attack. Their "actions" should be limited to footwork, positioning and targeting. Taunt and bash and kick was already too much going on in EQ and took away from the fun. Do NOT add "shouts".
    Also, all the hybrid tanks are bards. WTF.
    And clerics don't get basic root, at least?

      @@keithgarry5051 I don't play Rogues, however I do play a class that also fill the dps spot which makes it hard to compete. Anyways, I can't say I spent anytime theory crafting Rogues nor am I looking to. Rather, I would like to know whether I am really that out of touch for thinking all those abilities I listed being on one class, that itself is tops in its main function, is a bad thing? Some of those abilities are top tier themselves, even if they are not as strong as the class that specializes in them.
      I really am curious if that is the case. I can't see how the class devs don't look at this and go "this might be a bit too much", or even the other devs after reviewing it.
      Anyways, I get that I'm was too harsh with my first sentence, and it does not help things. This is an issue to me, and a quite infuriating one. To reiterate, this is just about Rogues, I don't have any real issues with other classes...yet (need to know more).

      He specifically said pacify = incapacitate. Just like how WoW rogues can Sap. It's not pacifying in the same way EQ classes can (I.e. make it so camps won't all aggro)... It's more of a mez (long duration CC that's broken by damage), so listing pacify and mez as if they were different is misleading. Again it's literally just WoW Sap, he even made that exact comparison himself. Everything else you listed is pretty much a rogue staple since dnd...

And who cares if everything is a rogue staple, rogues have been OP since forever, and devs these days are just trying to add more to an already excellent class. Tell me, how do you think classes that compete for the same spot will fare? The dev already declared the top dps and listed many top tier skills for that class. The dev even admits Rogues are his personal favorites.
      To your snarky last line I would say 1. you are an ass 2. Unable to see what should be clear bias to the rogue class.
      Last thing, if they make other competing classes similarly awesome and worth using over a rogue for more than a once off (see Rangers in EQ for mobs that have epic components), then I will be happy to retract my opinions.
