I think this is a huge reason for the opioid epidemic and for drug use in general. When you can’t escape your life, you just escape reality instead.

@Proudwhiteamerican But where did that "weak" mind come from? If your weak mind needed 26 years for an basically non addictive substance, you should be able to empathise a little more with an opiode addiction.

    • @ruudlexis2342
      @ruudlexis2342 5 лет назад +21

You got me, I'm actually a weed addicted Jackass. I got addicted because of the same issues, low self worth and inability to preform in school. Weed addiction can be hard to quit for good, I got no problem with a week at all. I respect you managed to do it. But a "weak" mind is not the same as a traumatised mind like most opioid addicts. A somewhat functional young person doesn't get addicted to heroïne out or weaknesses, and without help will never call it at all. I'm sorry I was rude as your intention was for the good, but the last thing an addict needs to hear, is that he's weak, a hug would help more.

This also needs to be said: As you lift yourself up, you're gonna meet a lot of resistance from people around you who are themselves stuck in quiet desperation and don't want to see you do what they can't do. I was everything Joe says here. Stuck, miserable, no life and suffering quietly. I took control of my life. There is more to life than just existing and working your ass off while others take you for granted. That was my case. I won’t ever give up fighting for what I want, ever.

What I like about Joe is that he speaks from a place of TRUTH. Most people live lives of quiet desperation. I have been that guy as well in MANY areas of my life (dating was the MOST painful). It is a VERY tragic reality that most people do not live in a place of empowerment day to day. It's never too late to change but he is ABSOLUTELY right when he says that the older you get the more you get LOCKED into situations (mortgage family responsibilities etc) that limit your options. The best way out is to learn how to live a lifestyle of MINIMALISM so your possessions don't OWN your decisions (sell your car just to see that you don't need it), stay the FUCK out of personal debt, and do not EVER perpetuate relationships that have gone BAD due to previous commitments. Good Luck everyone!!!!

Good on you man. I hope you succeed at whatever it is you want. The path is painful, and you may get lost for awhile, so don't fret. But instead try to find your way again.
I'm 27 too. That's what we have to do. Many years have passed and we've lost them. So what, we either try now (Or again), and make something happen. ANYTHING. We have to. This is hell. It's even worse hell knowing that you're on your own. If you have 1 or 2 truly close friends, or a true relationship, then your struggle may be a little easier, but that may not last, so you must still prepare yourself to take on your own journey. It's lonely. It's dark. It's painful. It's filled with hurt. If you don't have those nice things (I've had friends that were close, now are distant. I've had good friends and mediocre friends. I have had no intimate relationship - THIS is hard to deal with), then you must aim to both be progressing along your own path whilst in that darkness alone, and locating the companionship you need that is outside of yourself.
Part of your journey involves learning to be your own companion. That isn't to downplay the almost-necessity of an external companion in life (Again, close friend or ideally a genuine relationship).
I don't follow the belief that you have to love yourself first; However the path to, especially as a man, being proud of yourself - through strength during dark and difficult times - is where you find the love of others. The true companionship. That in turn does lead you to loving yourself more - That is, being proud of who you are as a human being, flaws - And perhaps the struggles to overcome those flaws (Even through failure, infact especially through failure), and all.
I can't provide comfort, because whilst we want it - Like I'm seeking it now - , it is presently unhelpful for us.
      Would you agree?

Great episode, and these off-topic remarks were actually my favorite part. As with a lot of things, Joe’s been there and done that, but what sets him apart is the level to which he’s thought it through and understands success/failure. Caffeinated & motivated!

26 still living at parents house and going through opioid withdrawls with barely no money to do anything i can say is the worst desperation you can ever get in. i wake up out of bed every morning feeling broke and like im 85 years old and i dont see how i can have intuitive or motivation to do anything because of how i feel. i want to stay sober but its such a trapped feeling man

I'm young and don't have any serious responsibilities but still feel this way. What I worry about at least is what I should be doing with my life and not having the resources necessary to fulfill my desires/falling behind/being seen as a loser etc. It can definitely see how it can get worse with age though given the way our society is run and familial obligations. You have less escape routes the more responsibly you have.

I'm only 23 and am already in a huge rut. I'm American but living in Europe. I love living her temporarily but my job is sucking my soul out of me. I want to pursue music, but part of me is holding me back out of fear of not making it. Every year I go through this. I can't scratch the itch or shake the feeling that it's what I need to do in life. Though it's such an uncertain field. Idk.. I feel that's my whole generation. "idk"... "what if"... "I _could_"... "I _should_".... "I would".. It's like a spell that we're cast under... And I personally attribute it to technology's distractions, though I won't shift the blame. Of course I'm responsible.

People are desperate because wealth and freedom is slowly being stripped away from the working class. Similarly, we are losing our sense of community.
People are just cogs in a corporate machine

When the senior pga tour started, the commentators were confused as to how these nobodies came out of the woodwork and were giving the likes of Jack Nicklaus a run for his money. They were great golfers in their 20's, but had responsibilities and took the safe route. Couldn't gamble on a sporadic payday on the road. Got real jobs and lived their lives playing golf on the side. There are people with amazing talent at all sorts of stuff who just can't afford to take the risk.

When people say people will have nothing to do when the automation gets going hard, this is what I counter with. It's a tragedy that peopel have talents in sport and otherwise that are simply underused because they need consistency in a paycheck.
