Checking prices of the flights to your desired destination throughout the whole year, and avoid traveling in the summer.
Always pay for everything on a credit card. Any issues where the airline is at fault can be claimed back through the card supplier.

I use incognito mode when I'm searching for flights. If I don't I always get an e-mail saying something like: Are you still booking a flight from ... to ...? Also I've had problems where the site locks up in the middle of booking and I switch to incognito and it works fine. Another cookie issue, I'm sure.
Just a few things to add, 9/10 times its easier and cheaper to take a positioning flight to then fly direct to your destination, there are also some airports in Europe (where I live so not sure about the US but there will be some there too) which are dirt cheap to fly out of. Budapest, Oslo, and Cairo are probably the biggest ones that come to mind. I saved $5000 USD by flying to Budapest then backtracking to Heathrow, onto JFK and then finally to Honolulu. That fare only costed me $1300 return in business class. Cairo is good for Asia/Australia or South America also, I recently snagged a business class ticket to Sao Paolo with Qatar Airways for $1200 return. That's 36 hours in Q-Suite for $1200. The value can be insane if you are mindful and careful about where you fly from. Just those two examples have saved me $12,000+ if I had've flown from London instead of Cairo/Budapest. Also I'm not sure about in the US, but here in Europe fares are normally cheaper midweek and a lot more expensive at the start of the week and especially the weekend.

Cairo is a great one, instead of heading to middle east for a connection you can go to cairo for a layover save money and see the pyramids!

My opinion and observations about the incognito mode point: My impressions are that the airlines themselves are not using cookies to bump up prices for searching customers. I agree with that. However….I strongly get the impression that the big online travel brokers (the ones selling flights, hotels, rental cars, the popular ones used by so many!) ARE doing just this. Just saying my observations. For this reason I don’t typically use these brokers anymore (with a few special deal exceptions) and prefer to go directly to airline or hotel sites to book. I use the brokers’ sites for comparisons and ideas only.
Interesting! I don’t think I’ve ever had a time where the price on Google Flights was more expensive than the price on the airline website, but your mileage may vary.
On the incognito thing; I travel a lot, and I mean, a LOT. And it is patently obvious that if I am hunting fares, when I return to the cheapest carrier to book a flight, they ALWAYS cost more than when I first looked, even if it was only a few minutes ago.
I don't know how they do it, but they certainly do do it. You will not convince me otherwise.
It definitely doesn't hurt to use incognito mode, so if it makes you feel better, go for it!
Whenever I fly within north america, if I depart on a Tuesday there are usually cheaper options. And I only book 2 weeks in advance
travel to many destinations over the years, yes, the price will increase for multi seeks over few days if you do not use different internet connections. Some searches Chang in my pass over an hour 25%.
Not so sure about the goldilocks time frame. I book my own UK tp USA flight and UK to South east Asia flights for work. What I found was about 10 days before I am about to fly, if an airline has not had much luck in selling a certain class (Premium eco seems to be this most of the time) It sells them all on to a agent/tour operator and they then offer them online. My last flight LHR to LAS direct with the airline was £1400 10 days before £.790 online with an agent I Would only advise this on popular destinations that are very well serviced such as UK to USA.

I knew about the cheaper fares from Europe to USA years ago. Wife lived in UK and was always cheaper for her to fly here then for me to fly there. Like you said about 200 to 300. Faregeek out of the Uk used to be best site for booking. Not sure anymore as Wife lives here now

Finding the cheapest flight - my technique is to book ahead of time like 8 months or more before your desired flight. Unless otherwise its an emergency. Thanks for the tricks, Mitch! 👍👍👍

Thanks for you video. Do you or does anyone have any ideas to save money on refundable airfares, or more flexible fares for travel to and from Europe. It seems like the the cheapest flight comes with no refunds or changes and you have to pay extra, like $300 more per ticket go any flexibility. Thanks for any ideas you have.

Is it cheaper to book flights and hotels separate or as a package?
The reason I ask is because I always tend to find better prices when looking for packages that includes both the flight and the hotel, but I have never heard you speak about package.
What are your thoughts about this?

Maybe book a single night on line. But look for a place once there and go to the desk and pay cash in local currency. You will get much lowr rates that way. Except for ATM withdrawals I do not use my Debit Cards. Much easier to keep track of my spending as well as card security.
@@ProjectUntethered Expedia other most popular sites usually allow you to add lodging and car rental. (not positive which websites but its the top 4 or 5. Haven't searched in months. Inclusive prices seemed average BUT almost all have sleazy ways to double or triple the bill RIGHT BEFORE YOU PAY ! That killed ANY interest i had. Seemed a waste of time !

Spirit does increase your price it happened to me when I looked for the same route and time multiple times
Is it possible that it was just a normal price change and not specific to you? (I.e . Did you try clearing your cookies to see if it went back down?). If you’re skeptical, you can also just search on google flights until you’re ready to buy, then just go to the airline website when you’re ready to purchase.
Try usuing a trained, profesional travel agent. They make NO COMMISSION on flight only bookings, can solve any problem that arises from your flight booking & they do everything for you. Most of my problems with travel have heppened when I have booked it myself, so now I just use a travel agent to take all the hassle out of travel arranging. Its a no brainer!

You don’t necessarily have to stay if you don’t want to, but if you want to explore another destination during your trip, it’s a nice option!
I just saved 50% on flights from Cleveland to Buenos Aires Argentina by first going to Columbia, then onward. Then on the return I saved 2 thousand dollars by first going over to Santiago Chile then up to Costa Rica, then to Cleveland.

@@ProjectUntethered I just use Google flights and checked from Cleveland to Columbia and Colombia to chili or directly to Argentina from Colombia and then on the way back I did the same thing.
HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY FLY WITH A TICKET FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY IF YOU ARE IN THE USA?
@@wakeupmypplone6394 first I bought a ticket from Cleveland to Medellin Colombia. Then I went online and purchased a ticket to Buenos Aires.
Then on the return I went over to Santiago Chile stayed for one week then purchased a ticket up to Costa Rica. Stayed a couple of days then purchased a ticket to Cleveland Ohio. This way you can see three other countries and you save 1000 to $2,000.

What about if we wanted to find cheap flights within the USA? I’m about to transition to a long distance relationship and I’d like to see my partner once a month but I’m looking from Miami to Kentucky and it’s consistently $300-$500 not including a carry on… it’s so confusing bc I’m sure we can find cheaper flights
I’d try to see which budget airlines have the most direct routes between those two places (if possible). It also might be worth signing up for Going to get the domestic deals, although the problem with those is you have to be flexible with im your dates. Another thing that could help is using the credit card churning to earn lots of miles/points to buy the flights. If you earned a good sign up bonus every few months, that might cover most of your visits!

As far as the credit cards/miles go, you’d have to do some digging to see which airline has the best award flight deals between the two destinations you need. There’s probably a better way to do this, but one way would be to just search the flight on each website (choosing the option to buy with points/miles). Then you can get an idea of how many points it cost. From there, you can work backwards to determine which credit card sign up bonuses would be most valuable to you.

That flight schedule change tip… I think #2 doesn’t work. I had a flight booked to Lisbon from IAD through LHR. The London to Lisbon leg got canceled… AA called me and offered me an alternative flight but I was asked to pay the difference between the old and the new route. I had to pay through my nose for 4 tickets.
It’s possible that they have different rules in Europe, but this info comes directly from the US government website. It is strange though because generally Europe has more protections than the US. Sorry you had to go through that!

So London to Detroit is cheaper but you have to get to London, interesting info but didn't make sense, Ryan air will charge for baggage seats etc budget is better

This is for people who travel often between Europe and the US. You would have to get to Europe on a one way flight to kick things off (this can be really cheap with points by the way). For most people just looking for a one-off vacation, the last tip won’t help (although I still found it interesting)

I have a big big problem. I am a Native Born US Citizen flyting with a US Passport. 3 days before departure SJO to MIA, I was sent a Federal Form to fill out requiring a Government Issues Photo ID with a US Mailing address or would not be allowed in the US. I add I am a US Army Veteran of 32 years wounded 4 times. A fine thanks for my service. Anyway I lost $430 on that ticket. Changeable but not refundable and American flies only to and from the USA. I have been living outside the US the past 10 years so no US address. And all my family and friends in the US are long dead or left. I have no problems with other countries plus have never so much as had a parking ticket, no debts or any financial obligations. This is so wrong being locked out of my own country. I got back my money on a MIA to LIMA Peru that would be departing 6 hours late4r so would not even be leaving the airport. MIA is a cheap point of departure to South America for me. Lost the ability to have banking in the US over the same nonsense 7 years ago. And to think I paid $183,000 US Income Tax this year and can't even go there. Nor bank or vote

So a B&B address wont work as I do not have any ID with a US Mailing Address/ And no a Private Mail Box will not work as to receive mail at one, I have to fill out a Federal Form and copy of a Government Issued Photo ID with an actual Residential Address in the US. So I will be boycotting all US Products and Services along wit6h at least 9000 in my community. Very easy too. A GMC 1/2 ton 2WD drive pickup here costs $92,600, while a Toyota Hillux 4X4 with a more powerful Turbocharged pickup costs $16,500. US Passports don't have any address much less a US Address.32 years I fought for the US and the Constitution. Time to fight against US Tyranny and bullying.

That’s a good point! I suppose it depends on how much you can save. If it’s $500 savings, probably worth the extra driving (especially if public transport is good and cheap). But if it’s $50 savings, probably not worth the hassle.

Learn to pack light. I booked a round trip to visit Michigan from Florida for $78. Spirit, allegiant, or frontier go to the airport it can feel like a mistake fare.

So, why do Americans pay more in airfare going to Europe or Asia than passengers from Europe or Asia going to the US or Canada? Same flight basically, same plane, same route and the same service. North Americans usually pay 20 to 40 percent more on Business class tickets and around 50-60 percent more on economy tickets. Why???

sadly this doesn't seem to work if you need to be travelling with as much luggage as possible. (I'm moving from one to another country and unless you have 3 stops and have to self-check-in each time, prices are now literally 3 - 4 TIMES more expensive than a "cheap" price which is actually what USED to be considered a higher price for the same route.
