There’s no doubt the structure has to change to keep gen z interested in pursuing the trades. I applaud you for coming up with solutions 👍

As a manufacturer in north texas I definitely agree. Even on our end finding good guys that know what is what when it comes to architectural fab is almost impossible. When talking with customers it’s really apparent they have little experience/knowledge on the install side. It’s forcing me to create a “preferred contractor” program that includes installation classes to at least give some beginners a good idea. It’s really unfortunate how many roofing companies push stone coated shingles and other bogus form of roofing cause of how easy it is to install with their sham warranties. Their all sales companies with very few actually caring about the end product or customer happiness.

The current skilled labor problems are related to low and inconsistent wages. We can't raise a family if we are laid off every time it rains. Contractors of every kind need to create a profit-sharing system that pays everybody based on seniority. Finished prices need to double or triple to cover weather out days due to seasonal changes. The real competition will be from DIY people who can't afford to pay a contractor. Building codes need to protect contractors from boot leggers that cheat the system.

    Another great video.
    Interesting topic.
The difficulty is that someone with your idea and knowledge meets that guy who had something special for details.
On a mini scale it is happening to me, I have been thinking it would be better for me to dedicate myself to just manufacturing.
Until now I have not found an assistant with that special eye for details.
