His daughter was at the top 5% in our school along with having numerous extra-curricular academic activities in her repertoire. She was rejected acceptance into Harvard. Our professor was privy to all the students affairs and learned a classmate of hers was only in the 90% ranking in our class (bottom 10%) but he was a good athlete with NO outside activities except for the seasonal sport. The professor/father justifiably berated this system in a moving speech to the entire school. His tears were completely moving, and I agreed with his point.

I'm just saying, at least for elected officials, it might be worthwhile to consider duels for honor becoming legal again. The GOP loves to quote the old man, “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.” Maybe they ought to live it out. Given the sheer amount of disrespect and dishonor they have heaped even onto veterans and service members, much less the minorities their laws target, I think those of us they malign should be allowed to express that in a way that might actually matter to them. They're protected from defamation suits, they're protected from criminal defamation prosecution, they're even allowed to lie to their voters' faces about basic facts of reality, like their heritage or even easily verifiable facts. We have a 2nd Amendment, allegedly to protect us from tyrants, meaning those who would rule over us rather than serve us as civil leaders, maybe we should put our proverbial money where our mouths are.
And no, I don't think it's necessary to go full high noon wild west shootout; even a simple boxing match would do the trick for most of these cowards. Bullies will often back down in fear once they face any real consequences.

I went to to school in Charlotte from kindergarten until 2nd grade. I was bussed across town to go to Villa Heights Elementary instead of going to Windsor Park Elementary which was literally on the other side of my backyard. I didn’t understand it at the time but what a gift that was. Whoever helped integrate public schools in Charlotte gave me the gift of seeing black and white people the same way I see one person wearing a blue shirt and the other wearing a green shirt. It’s just a shirt, who’s the person wearing the shirt? It’s too bad the man from Iredale wasn’t given the same gift. What I would ask the man from Iredale: what did you do to achieve your whiteness? “Nothing” you say? That’s what I thought.

It’s North Carolina, what do you expect? Rep Jones is the most decent, brilliant, kind and down to earth person you will ever meet. That is evident in the response he gave to the clownish question posed to him.
