- ANTIOCH - Emotions boiled over in a tense city council meeting Tuesday following the release of racist text messages allegedly sent by Antioch police, with the mayor at one point getting into a heated exchange with a resident who called for an investigation of him instead.
Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe has called for an audit of police internal affairs and the firing of anyone involved in the sending of racist or homophobic texts, many of which were released in court on Tuesday. The texts, directed mainly at Black and Latinos, included names of 23 officers who now have been placed on administrative leave.
Thorpe himself was the subject of one text exchange in which an officer offered to “buy a prime rib dinner” to anyone who shot the mayor during a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020 with a projectile used on protesters.

Was there just one text? Or are you just too lazy to add an s? Regardless, it won't make the texts less factual or funny. It's strange how the demographic that has little to no accountability always cries out for more of it regarding other folks' behavior, especially when dealing with them. I'd love to see a link to the text messages that the judge ruled on. I'd also like to see the information this citizen was talking about. No reason this mayor get so heated by someone asking for transparency.

I don't see what's wrong with holding police accountable for their actions. In my city the same officer was involved in 2 road rage shootings and recieved no punishment. In one situation part of it was caught on camera when the off duty officer followed a man as he was taking his wife to work and approached the man with gun in hand. It led to a shootout in a public place and the other party was the only one arrested. Also the off duty officer had 3 days before he had to give an official statement while they question the other person in his hospital bed.
Nothings wrong about that, the republitards just love defending pigs it’s a tale as old as time.

Search SAPD Officer Desi Rios. Just found out he resigned in 2021 after getting into another incident where he was involved in a hit and run then beat up a 61yo who followed him. I guess the Department got tired of covering up for the guy. I also found news articles related to 3 incidents but I'm sure there are more that were swept under the rug. The same Department had a Cop give a homeless man a dog poop sandwich and that Cop got to keep his job.

Was it likely said as a joke? Probably, but I don't see how that's funny in anyway. No one I know makes a "joke" to shoot someone. This city's police are already being actively investigated by the FBI for corruption. I am pretty sure that's a legitimate reason for anyone to be upset, is to have their life (even "jokingly") threatened, and then have someone stand up for that person who threatened your life and then try to flip the tables on you. That's a pretty common narcissistic tactic, to turn the tables like that and victim blame. His feelings were not just hurt. His life and his family member's safety was threatened.

Police Officers from Antioch and Pittsburg police departments have been under FBI and local investigation for over a year for a range of offenses. The Major has a right to be angry about the racist text messages among Police Officers and to demand an audit. Officials described the offenses of the police as "crimes of moral turpitude."

If you have ever dealt with the Anti-American Antioch police you would think they needed prison cells a lot more than a whitewashed 'do-over' that does not hold cops accountable for crimes against their community. Police Officers from Antioch and Pittsburg police departments have been under FBI and local investigation for over a year for a range of offenses. The Mayor has a right to be angry about the racist text messages among Police Officers and to demand an audit. Officials described the offenses of the police as "crimes of moral turpitude."
Why not clean the whole lot out .. and audit the mayor n council as well? The mayor is a poser... and anyone who says "dog whistle racism" is usually looking to make some up where it doesn't exist.
