I know a lady that sent in her idea for using (Pillsbury?) crescent rolls & pie filling to make turnovers (probably early 60s). It was some sort of contest. My grandmother also used her idea. She never heard back, but some time later, pre-packaged turnover "kits" appeared in the refrigerator sections of stores.
I made Bsqk for 5 years for General Mills...only the 2nd Black person to work in the dept. But even so, those where 5 of the best years of my life. I still inspect the 1x3 trays when I go to Sam's club lol.
I don't think you've influenced anybody other than pissing a bunch of us off. I will continue to buy Bisquick and Uncle Ben's, Aunt Jemima, Land o Lakes ....
@@sweeteuthiedoll You're welcome! I'm thinking about trying to find a recipe for a healthier alternative universal baking mix. All of the few that I've seen in the store so far have been ridiculously overpriced for a stingy amount of product. My problem has been that most of the common recipes.that I've tried at hom e have an unpleasant aftertaste from baking powder of soda no matter how carefully I sift and mix it. That's the main advantage of bisquick. You don't get unpleasant flavors or textures. So I've got to try to find one again or a cheaper bagged or boxed mix soon.
So a black guy mixed flower water and lard in a train car one day and supposedly that's a contribution to society? Well I guess that's way better than potable water electricity medicine automobiles radio or just about anything else that actually matters, I mean it's not like no one would have ever done it before or could have without this guy right? And yes they didn't put blacks in their marketing because they weren't trying to pander to them, and yes in 1934 when they did they portrayed them as servants because they were......
My main problem with Bisquick is the outrageous price. It's way more expensive than the sum of its ingredients. I make my own baking mix and it's way less expensive. As for the racist angle, it's from an era when racism was socially acceptable. It's not surprising to find it in every aspect of our history.
What was stopping the black cook from marketing his idea? (If it was his idea) Don't say racism because there were former slaves who became millionaires.
@@mcmd2009 It's easier to capitalize on an idea if you already have money. That's why there are professional investors. Even if you have the patent, if you can't afford to produce your idea, you can't make much money off of it.
I don't know what you did to Bisquick but it is not the Bisquick I have been using for years and it tastes and performs horribly. Will be throwing it out and never buying it again.
I opened this video thinking I was going to learn something interesting... but nope. I'm starting to get really sick of hearing about racism from a 100 or more years ago. I would never knowingly buy from a company that is blatantly racist today. But I wasn't alive 100 years ago & the people who did these things are long dead. Just like the aunt jemima crap, it will not change what I buy
There is no reason to give the black guy credit. He didn’t invent the cooking Materials he was using. He was following instructions. Nor did he take take it to be mass produced. He could have done that a long time before, like all the other kitchen workers around the country that used the same pre-mix. People who mass produce products that the rest of us have seen and used don’t owe the rest of us credit. They are doing something that we decided not to do. It was ford that started to mass produce cars. He doesn’t owe anyone credit for what he brought to the table, not the original inventor of the car nor anyone that stood by while the opportunity passed them buy. . The black guy chose to interact with the product and share it with the public in his way, that is through making it available to train passengers and the white guy made it available to the public in another way, in the form of mass production. People need to get over themselves.
Why get into all this...I thought this was non stressfull...but its all negative ....there is no transfat by the way. Thought this would be happy stuff):
Do you prefer pre-made pancake mix or do you like making them from scratch?
I absolutely HATE Bisquick!
if you got anything to say about it...neither.
Mashed Both.....depending on time available
Scratch. Bisquick pancakes are terrible.
If time is of the essence, I’ll use the Bisquick. Otherwise I make them from scratch.

How low we go. I love Bisquick, have used it for 60 years, have two boxes in my fridge and I don't just don't care a hoot what you say.

So in other words being surrounded by white people made your job nice.... Maybe you understand why they feel the same way.
I don't think you've influenced anybody other than pissing a bunch of us off. I will continue to buy Bisquick and Uncle Ben's, Aunt Jemima, Land o Lakes ....
And all contain trans fats!
It's weird that facts would piss people off. Must be a republican thing.
any restaurant/food brand: *exists*
Mashed: so you have chosen... *death*
This gave me the idea following the original diner - make a pre-made mix from scratch and put it in a refrigerator... 🌿🌿🌿
Alton Brown did that very thing on a past episode of his cooking show .
@@judithsixkiller5586 thank you I will look into this.

Let me guess: Being inspired by a black man and then inventing a product is cultoral appropriation? Give me a break..
Damn. I just wanted to learn about a convenience item not be scolded for it. Get a damn grip!
Communist
Maybe you should rename this video....exposing racism in breakfast foods. Or....there is no escaping the racism in every biscuit you eat.
Making pancakes from scratch is better in my opinion.
Ibrahim Rahmah absolutely unless you are gluten free
I tried Bisquick pancakes and was shocked at how bad they tasted.
Lois Avci that’s because the flour is old, taste like its been in a warehouse since the 1940’s
I love bisquick
Beverly Owens so do i can make so many things with the gluten free especially pancakes and oven baked chicken is so good
Beverly Owens we all going to die some day better to live before they start arresting us for not wearing a crazy mask they are all going crazy
when are you going to upload "the untold truth of Mashed"
My mom made all different kinds of things with Bisquick. Coffee cakes, pancakes, biscuits, even pot pies. We lived on the stuff.
How will a wound ever heal if someone continually digs into it with a knife?
always new things to learn
Read and Study the Ingredients.... Also on gravy mix and many other foods... You'll be shocked at some of the artificial additives!

Why does it have to go into "the black B.S." WHEN IT SAYS ITS AN ARTICLE ABOUT FOOD
Even Bisquick commercials play the race card......give me a break! Such hogwash......did you have to throw in the race card? I’m disgusted
That's what I said. It really did not make any sense to throw that comment in there.
Cry about it
Your talking you probbaly cry when a black guy gets a splinter
The pancakes used in food commercials are doused with motor oil rather than actual syrup. True story.
I do love the Heart Smart Bisquick! It’s very light and tasty, and less sugar then the original one!

Interesting 👍
That coffee cake recipe was so good
I want to be buried in Bisquick when I die.
Lol!!!;
"Impossible Guy Pie?"
Lets be honest, premixing ingredients didnt start with that black train cook. Stop bringing up racial stuff in ur mini food docs.
Amazing how you can add racism to almost anything
The point is they did not have to add it, they just mentioned it. It was already there.
Yes, it's amazing how the racism was already in the backstory.
Thanks for the recipe but you can keep the racism.
1:28 damn never knew about the background racism Bisquick had...
What did you expect from the 30s?
Heck yeah don’t judge the truth past on future

Bisquick is the best
Giving black people credit would be going against all this country stands for. Black people aren’t crying about the discredited chef on that train.

No lard not with my bisquick
Almost everything invented was inspired by someone else, color notwithstanding
Why am I not surprised a person of color gave this to the world & got no credit?
Thumbs down. Everything is racist anymore. It's getting stale.
