Bobbi, I think every garden needs an area for cutting flowers and greenery. I know I'd be lost without mine. The freedom to be able to cut on a plant (shrub or tree) for making floral arrangements is priceless. I too love seeing migrating birds, but I'm not always willing to share the lovely berries that are gorgeous in an arrangement. Bird netting works great, especially if you get the kind that is safe for use around wild birds. I hope you're having a great week! ~Margie🤗💐🦋🐝
Thanks Margie! I’m glad I’m not the only one who plants for floral arrangement cuttings ☺️ I do use bird netting but this past winter was the first time all of the berries got eaten. I wasn’t prepared!
Bobbi, I think your gardens are beautiful. And you may not have a sculptured area with your shrubs and trees, but I love it! You are in the country and you get to have all of nature around you. The animals and the birds are a special gift. Keep on doing on what you are doing with your videos, hiccups and all! I think at some point all of your shrubs up the hill will do quite well as they get more mature. Maybe if you plant more spruces you could put a tall fence around each of them to deter the deer from enjoying them and then remove them when they are taller. Have a lovely day!
Thanks so much for the encouragement, I really appreciate it! We’ve actually talked about putting fencing around some of the ever greens. I’d love to also plant some Norway Spruce so if I get to do that, we will definitely have to put in some protection from the deer!
Thanks for sharing the Viburnum looks great! I think your plants would be really happy if you start mulching around them. Even if you just use your grass clippings, that will get the worms coming and improve the soil! Take care!
Hi! Thanks for your input. I do mulch everything with leaf/forest mix compost. It tends to fade in color quickly so you probably couldn’t see it. As I mentioned, the soil where this is planted is extremely poor but I am seeing some improvement in the shrubs and trees. Thanks for watching!
The berries on that vibernum were beautiful, I have deer issues as well, they are wonderful and I love them in winter and then garden season comes along and I just want to slap them on their noses because they think my garden is their own personal smorgasbord!! Lol. Your place is beautiful, I'll take natural over fancy anytime. 😎
Thanks Bobbi - I want ALL the shrubs 🙃It then appears that the Brandywine Viburnum doesn't need a pollinator, correct? Love your videos and the country setting♥
Hi! The berries on the Viburnum come in to maturity towards the Autumn time. By the Christmas season, the berries are pretty well past their prime and somewhat shriveled. At least that has been my experience with this shrub. You can use the berries in late summer and Autumn arrangements. For Christmas arrangements, I suggest Winter Berry or fruit bearing Holly and Nandina. Hope this helps!
Hi there! You know it’s funny, when someone doesn’t see the entire picture of someone’s property, it’s easy to make a statement like that. This is a working cattle farm and we have 400 acres of native plants for the pollinators and for the eco system. We also have 5 grandchildren so we keep our yard open for them to run and play. But, nevertheless, thanks for your comment and input. Have a nice day!

Hi Bobbi. You are blessed with such a beautiful area to garden in. Love winterberry holly.
Hopefully they will do well 😊❤️❤️
Thanks my friend! I love the Winterberry Holly too-one of my favorites! 🤗💕🌸
Yes, the wildlife love to go to town on our plants😮
I wish I had the space for more shrubs ❤
Your vast land is beautiful 🥰
Thanks Lorraine!
And oh yes those critters-always eating or digging up something 🤦🏼♀️🤗

I hear ya on wanting to give the critters that eat our stuff a good smack ☺️
And, I’m with you, I prefer the more natural landscape too!

Oh me too-just want one (or two or three) of each!
And you are correct, no pollinator needed for the Brandywine Viburnum.
Hi how’s the shelf life on the berries would they work in Xmas arrangements?

You don't need all that space for invasive lawn. Plant Native.
