  • The episode where the Soviet Union goes ballistic on the Allies. Sorry for the long wait, lads.
    The script might have been a little long for this one, and I realized it too late lmao, so the video is longer than usual. Still trying to find the optimal settings and techniques for my voiceover, so sorry if certain parts feel kinda scuffed.
    For those unaware, Mental Omega is a free unofficial expansion pack for Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge, just recently reaching the 10th anniversary of its version 3.0 release.
    You can download and play this campaign now from their official website: mentalomega.com/
    If you are feeling generous, I would love for you to check out my Patreon page I just set up: / psyminette

    I am glad to discover that I am not the only one fascinated by the lore of Mental Omega, which is often overshadowed by the gamplay and the campaign. The political intrigues and the miscalculation on the part of all sides due to incomplete information depict a surprisingly realistic clash between political and para-military groups despite the over the top grandiosity of psychic and anti-psychic warfare.

    You go through MO and then revisit RA2 and you'll realize just how fucked the Allied Nations were if they didn't have the Chronosphere tech. Even in their campaign, they play the returning underdog game. They were able to reclaim lost territory solely due to the brilliance of the player commander, and were still outnumbered 5:1 even by the time they were ready to decapitate the Soviet capital. If the Soviets had a comrade general like in MO, the decapitation wouldn't have stopped them. Romanov was not irreplaceable as show post-Raven.

    • @marley7868
      @marley7868 Год назад +13

      yeah except a few crucial details here yuri in this timeline escalated the tech race in addition the us fleet played no role and let us be frank if both commanders are equals than a pacific showdown between the red fleet and the us fleet on hawaii is a forgone conclusion the us wins
      the only reason things are so bad in this scenario is yuri truly upped his game and got alot more autonomy
      also rominov wasn't decapitated he was made to surrender which is wayy worse on an active warzone that sudden loss and off C&C with the order from your high leader to disband is crippling for any military if only cause the divisions that will follow that order

    • @gethk.gelior4214
      @gethk.gelior4214 Год назад +7

      Still, Chrono tech saved their asses then, and saved them and then a certain revolt in MO. If you recall in Deja Vu, as soon as you pop Einstein's lab and put an end to the tech, Allies immediately surrender. In whichever timeline they just can't clash with Soviets head on and expect to survive. The Paradox Engine was originally designed to be a super-chrono storm on Moscow and all.

    • @marley7868
      @marley7868 Год назад

      @@gethk.gelior4214 I'll concede the euros are doomed they don't stand a chance but the russian fleet can't get outta port by the end they will lose
      but on the us front I'm just gonna bring up that in every timeline the mass russian tank movement through texas is shattered offscreen
      so they can fight plenty
      still nice chattin with you on this
      think the best way to put is the soviets are masters of industrial might in this setting rugged and hard to kill with plenty of dumb fire to overwhelm
      the allies are tech focused using clever means to out maneuver or make your enemies advantages pointless
      and both get outplayed in there own field on occasion

    • @thefool8224
      @thefool8224 Год назад +6

      yeah, last mission of the original campaign is the allies sending their forces directly to the enemy HQ basically cutting off the head of the snake and ending the war. it also happened in a similar way in red alert 1, they used the 1st generation chrono to create a supply line and literally buried stalin alive.
      and here in MO is even more important, but i dont want to spoil anything. but lets say that whatever they cooked in this timeline is much more powerful for all sides in the war

    • @gethk.gelior4214
      @gethk.gelior4214 Год назад

      @@marley7868 The Soviet Navy didn't play a big part even in their own campaign, so you're right about that. Hell, in their campaign they just rush captured US with beacons. IIRC they brought their army close enough and invaded US under the guise of interfering with some conflict in Mexico? Then again RA2 lore had mind controlled cows strapped with Ivan bombs charging allied formations. So…yeah.

    You did a really good job with this project! I'm really glad you included elements that we wrote that didn't end up being depicted properly in missions, you showcased what I was trying to get across with your fill in clips (I was a writer and did the briefings for what became Act I) - you got the exact intention conveyed across, thanks 😄 .
    I know, and I for my part apologize that the briefings that we used to convey the story have caused confusion for years now, but we didn't really have a choice - the briefing screen only could display so much text. It was a real struggle eliminating sometimes half a page or a whole page of what was necessary text. Back then we didn't have many of the engine extensions the community is used to today, and even the launcher client was in early days. And some things I or we wrote didn't get conveyed properly to the map design members until it was too late (Epsilon mission for Vandenburg was supposed to have giant long range laser cannons on shore that would have had to be rendered inoperable before a naval invasion could take place, is one that I remember). If there's any clarification you want on Act 1, or at least confused about something that doesn't make sense, do ask.
    I've seen some old other Mentalmeisters in this vids comments and in the previous ones, very nice job getting the gang back ehehe.

    In combat scenes, the scene starting with infantry and vehicles being in the middle of an opposing base already being shot at doesn't make a lot of sense. Visually great but thinking wise, hmm maybe if upon scene start they moved into the base, only to be surprised, surrounded and destroyed. That might work better. I started reading a bit of the mental omega lore but always get struck in gameplay (casual is no so casual...), but thanks to your videos many things I didn't notice during gameplay have become clear. Keep the good work Psyminette! For the Union!

      Simply for supremacy on negotiation table.
      Unlikes from original RA2.
      The WWII inMO timeline was delayed for another decade.
      This mean most pro-unite people who still alive either death or retired.
      And those who took the helm did everything for their power.
      And the European hated the American who became world leader and wanted position back.

    Intriguing note at about 2:13 Technically the Mammoth Tank probably isn't even in concept stages yet, as the first Tiberium war is in 1995, but Red Alert 2 is in 1972. Not sure if Mental Omega takes place in the same year, but the Mammoth is an upgraded and modernized Apocalypse.

    I find Mental Omega an interesting case of seeing different points of view in a game. Depending on mission and level the commitment of the three allies to each other changes slightly. Showing that for the PF and to a lesser extent the EA that different factions want to help the US and defend democracy to different degrees. While in the pacific front differences between factions are so big it splits to three different sides

    • @darkbrightnorth
      @darkbrightnorth Год назад

      The American POWs seem to have a worse opinion of the PF and EA than the Commanders’ forces, although that is leaning in negative in parts of act 1 for example. Different parts of the Russian army like the Soviet general more than others, like krukov and Reznov’s forces seem to be loyal, as does the confederation.

    • @hidefreek6905
      @hidefreek6905 Год назад

      In the story.
      The entire European Alliance high command not only betrayed the American, they even betrayed themselves and stabbed each other back.
      Yep, EA nations played political game and backstabbing each other even the Soviet invades Europe.
      While the PF cause by arms manufacturing companies and many anti-west politicians hate the Allied technology for peace idealism (can't sell weapons)😂

    If I may mention a small thing, there's something slightly wrong with your map at 14:06: South Korea was not occupied at that time, safe until the mission Singularity. Digital Demon mentions specifically in its briefing that South Korea was spared in the initial Chinese invation of the Pacific Front.

    • @Psyminette
      @Psyminette  Год назад +2

      I am aware of this, hence why Japan and South Korea are tan-coloured, which is slightly brighter than China’s darker brown. I understand that the two colours are similar tho (which was intended to show that the traitors r aligned with China) so it may cause confusion. Perhaps I should’ve made that clearer in the video.
