- Installing Dometic windows in a van is a pretty scary process. So in this video, I'll be walking you through how I did it, as well as share a few lessons I learnt along the way.
This series has now moved to the new Matt's Van Channel!

My name is Matt Estlea, I'm a 27 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.
I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a further 1 year working as an Artist in Residence at the Sylva Foundation. I now teach City and Guilds Furniture Making at Rycotewood as of September 2018.
I also had 5 years of experience working at Axminster Tools and Machinery where I helped customers with purchasing tools, demonstrated in stores and events, and gained extensive knowledge about a variety of tools and brands.
During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite 'Tool Duel' where I compare two competitive manufacturers tools against one another to find out which is best.
I like to have a laugh and my videos are quite fast paced BUT you will learn a lot, I assure you.
Lets go make a mess.

Due to the popularity of this Van Conversion series, I am relocating it to a dedicated Van Conversion Channel! youtube.com/@mattsvan
The Matt Estlea 2 Channel was originally for shitposting and used as a proving ground for ideas we have, without the risk of damaging the main channels (Matt Estlea) ranking in RUclipss search algorythms. Ideally we'd like to continue using it for this purpose, but are concious of clogging up the feeds of people who only signed up for van related content. Hence the dedicated channel.
It also means I can use the dedicated channel for travel vlogs and other van related content once the conversion is complete which sounds fun. Go subscribe!
I love when you explain things to camera
It may not matter (I hope it doesn't), but the van's numberplate isn't blurred in the small panel in the outro (mentioning it because it's blurred in other shots).
9.20 - not just measure as often as you can, but measure several days apart if you can tolerate the the frame. Amazing how a fresh go reveals stuff you do on autopilot with a different energy level
Of all the things I'm never likely to do, this is one of the most 'unlikely-iest', yet I still watch the whole thing 😆
Can’t wait to see the whole van completed, really loving these videos
Beautiful job!
Next time, you could try hot gluing your magnets to your template so they can have direct contact with the metal. Just a suggestion that could come in handy.
Build is coming along nicely.Hope you enjoyed your trip to Australia.
Thanks for helping make Wooddust 23 such a fun experience.
Awesome stuff!
Looking forward to the insulating!!!
Nice job !!!
Great video, and I didn't see it properly but I have a feeling you used the sikaflex 522 which is very (VERY) strong adhesive :) Which means you may have a bit of a problem in the future if one day you would like remove one of the windows. I think sikalastomer 710 may be a better solution as this is just a sealant, remains elastic and does not bond which is a good thing.
Perfectionist at work ;)
Did you plan to still move in this year?
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Hi Matt the leveling of the windows is much simple with a Laser level.
Except when you're inside the van moving around and everything moves about on the suspension.🙃
You need a sheet nibbler
I've got such occupational damage - from the title of this video, I thought it was about installing the operating system
Hi Matt! Do you think it will work as a roof hatch on instead og side windows?
Hi Matt , very interesting video. I am currently converting a Citroen relay and have picked up a pair of bargain /new unused framed windows as sold by Sheild autocare , However they too are flat ,and i have calculated that my van has a radius of 6252mm..After watching your excellent vid , i decided to make a pair of stout timber former's using my cnc router for accuracy , but i,m going to step the former cross section to match the inner profile of the frame (3 steps) , so that i can apply pressure to the whole cross section of the frame profile . I measured the gap between the straight edge as you did and it was 5mm . My fear is that the acrylic window might break when i try to shut it against the newly curved frame or detach the hinge section . hopefully the round hollow section seal will accommodate the deviation . what type of seal does the dometic have ? and is your window harder to shut ? and any words of wisdom appreciated . kind regards
I suddenly wondered if the window depth would be too thick and the van door wouldn't then be able to open
I'd be tempted to put some plastic seat covering in place....definitely when spraying.
Dropped my first had to buy another smashed the surround if anyone wants to buy make me an offer
Did I miss Part 10 of the van series? XD
I was going to ask the same question...
