British empire, as a colonial power, waged an illegal war to steal Hong Kong from China. During its rule, Britain sucked all the resources from Hong Kong and they rendered people in Hong Kong powerless politically and they were essentially second class citizens in their homeland. Then, just before Britain returned Hong Kong to China, it suddenly cared about Hong Kong people's liberty and political right. It is insincere and ridiculous because what they really care about is the vast assets they still own in Hong Kong. They are still using Hong Kong people while those young Hong Kong rebels are not the idealistic youth but professionals who are paid by foreigners to mess up their own country. Shame on them! Those Hong Kong rebels seem to more want to be the second class citizens under British rule than in line with their Chinese roots. Yes, their national government is imperfect, even backward politically, but they should work hard with patience to improve their country within the system, never becoming the tools of foreign power. Do they think any government of any country in this world is perfect? Should any other country tolerate any group of their youth to mess up social order and threaten national security aided by foreign powers?

@John M : You are very naive to believe him. Where do the majority of the chinese in Malaysia comes from ? Fujian. Same with Singapore ? Mainly from Canton.... And now, in this meeting, how many are actually from HK, or even local from Canton ?? 3 of them have a Malaysian surname... The Southern chinese money left the city. What is this masterplan of "one belt one road" ???? I think the Singaporeans and the Malaysians are and should be worried.... Cos they want to do business, and at every opportunity states that they are "still chinese", but left and removed most of the chinese banks from the South to rebuild elsewhere. There is a lot of reasons why Bearings collapsed in Singapore.

The Chinese people in the whole wide world supported the Chinese Government's wisdom in passing the necessary National Security Law. Witnessing what happened in Hong Kong this law is a must to stop foreign meddling and subverting aiming to divide and destabilizing not only Hong Kong, it's aiming to destabilize the whole country. The host is not qualified to host this program his opinion sounded biased and no different from that of those rogue politicians in Washington and the west. As far as Hong Kong is concerned China has every right under its sovereign border and is wise enough to impose this law. Why not he question the US politicians and WH personnels motives of entering Hong Kong to incite violence.

Great discussions. Back in 1979, HK represented over 10% of the GDP of China and Deng Xiaoping was well-known for his pragmatism, China did not trade sovereign of HK over the need for development. Sovereign integrity was and is non-negotiable. The first person that the then HK Governor seen in Guangdong before enroute to Beijing was Xi ZhongXun, father of Xi JinPing.

HK’s future is for the people of China together with HK to decide, not some third countries afterall it’s ‘one country, two systems’ . The western commentators seem to be only talking about the ‘two systems’, not the ‘one country’ bit. If there is no ‘one country’ there wouldn’t be ‘two systems’. The ‘two systems’ must be taken within the context of ‘one country’.
In any case, the HK national security law came about in a direct response to some 15 months of violet protests by unscrupulous elements.. it’s bizarre that the US gov’t should find it expedient to interfere with HK affairs, when there has never been any US ties with HK whatsoever.
Freedom and democracy are not free, they come with responsibility to abide the rules of law’. When the protesters don’t abide by the rules of law’ what ‘freedom and democracy’.

If China introduced these laws two years ago, HK people probably would have gone on the street to protest. The basic problem is the "One country Two systems" agreement as interpreted, principally by the USA and the UK, to them "One country means Hong Kong and China participates in the two systems." This is justified by a God who wears a crown made of dollar notes and whose magic wand is - the nation with the most destructively equiped armies. The people of Hong Kong are useful but really not the principal issue.

Interesting discussion. Christine Loh's analysis was particularly insightful and illuminating. One unanswered question was about the reaction of Hong Kongers to Western policy actions. While offers of citizenship paths are certainly welcomed by some, and suspension of extradition treaties is understandable, sanctions to pressure Beijing are generally viewed as further meddling and interference. Overall, the national security law is broadly welcomed by the majority of Hong Kong people who were shocked by the violent takeover of peaceful protests by thuggish secessionists.

Why is it interesting ? Cos she was part of the legislative council at that time, and in actual fact, you can say that, it had an incompetent team in its place. And therefore, the situation occurred to become what it is today. I did not know that this was asked to past. Imagine if this was passed before 1997. The soveignty issue, then would have enabled HK to be genuinely true true be "two system". Cos that was in place. Instead, it now, actually will be integrated into the Canton region and province at some point, as the financial sector is to be reduced... What a lot of people also did not know is that, a lot of the money left China... even before it connected to the WTO. "A History of Modern Shanghai Banking" is an interesting read... Cos the CCP was really not an official official entity, until the solidification and the formalisation became what it is today.
Shanghai lost its financial centre before in the past... and HK was really a provincial city. And then Shanghai never reached its peak again, while HK reached a higher peak. This is why now more SOE is common in mainland. Whereas HK was not.
After 1997... over in the border in the Canton region, the local provincial government had an entire legco team for exact replacement already. This was fought back... from HK , via the law courts... So, yes, it should have been activated way way way before. Art. 23 should have been activated, cos then that puppet government state would not occur.

    • @MeiinUK
      @MeiinUK 4 года назад

All the Southern banks' money, went into SE Asia.. Into Singapore and into Malaysia... So why are these two Malaysian, now "suddenly" claim HK, as if it is their own homes ?? A lot of people lost the city and the area. The ones who sits in those legcos were indeed not local to HK. So these people screwed them up. Only Cantonese people are Li Ka Shing... who is a CCP member. People do not realise what is happening... There is a lot of CCP members in HK... undetected and unknown to others. Kind of like How Huawei now, have CCP members sitting at the management level.... All private companies have, I think.

The Chinese learned the effectiveness of peaceful protests in Tiananmen Square. It's obviously preferable to be peaceful, but when the government has no qualms about mass murder, assassination, and torture, it is simply not a realistic ideal to uphold.

The Chinese learned a lesson from the unequal treaties, foreign concessions, unequal treaties and the warlord era. Never again will China be divided, or have its internal affairs dictated by foreign powers.
I'm still not sure what happened at Tiananmen, reports differ wildly.

In North Korea, when you visit, you will see over 100,000 North Koreans in and out of the MTR subway, even busier than any Friday in 2019 central in HK, all North Koreans in designer suits and brief cases acting like they are going to work, then at lunch time at a 5 star hotel when you dine, you will see many North Koreans there having lunch, full table of food and different bottles of expensive wine, then the tour guide will take you to a hospital, with best German very very expensive medical equipment, and one lady there in the first class room (which looks even better than your hotel room), (where she praises her beloved Kim Jong Un, for inventing this medical equipment and building it with his bare hands this morning, which cured her super rare cancer, in 24 seconds) and she will be speaking in fluent Cantonese with you, telling you she is about to run a marathon that afternoon, as she feels great now lol.
Obviously it’s all lies and all staged.
    If North Korea is Coke,
    The China is Coke light.

At a minimum , anyone who reasonably concludes the CCP is in serious governance difficulties, certainly would not be exaggerating facts. Surely this conclusion would be a reasonable observation. Rest assure, more CCP difficulties are in the queue, and it certainly appears more CCP problems are mounting. Lately , It has become quite clear their problems aren't getting any easier, and likely to become quite worse. The CCP has not yet come to terms with the "new normal" , with regard to global trade relations, or China's human rights requirements. For China to continue greatly benefiting from World Trade , the CCP must find a way to capitulate, and embrace Natural Born human rights. Unfortunately, for the CCP , all indications currently show they are willing to take China with its party members , back to the Stone Age. The CCP seems paranoid , and it's more likely CCP leadership is in the process of making a last-ditch effort to maintain control of all Chinese people , especially their fellow Countryman. It's become most unfortunate for China , as the CCP continues to punish all others who believe in Truth and Freedom.

Don't try to tell us you are morally superior.
