My most sincere and respectful condolences for the loss of your beloved, “Scout” he was a great dog and companion. Man, that dog is having is little mind blown by the magical treat giving rocking machine in the front yard. I love the genuine joy in your voice when you talk to him. That dog is going to be the bomb.
Trip's personality is fantastic. Definitely an intelligent dog. It would be cool to see safety training with him- how to behave when you're splitting wood, cutting trees, starting fires, etc.
I think working with fire is going to be really hard to teach Tripper but then again he seems, (to me) to be a real natural when it comes to the outdoors so far. I know some people will scoff at this or say it's a load of rubbish (but I believe and that's all that matters) but Scoots is with him and letting him know it's all ok and he is 100% safe with Joe, and what Joe does and what Joe says. Joe. I"ve only been watching about a month and am enjoying your company. I wanted to tell you about my mother MaryAnn. She has never been camping and watches you and Doug as well as others at 86 it amazed me that this is what she gravitated to on you tube. I want to say thank you for letting her enjoy camping sitting on the couch. When i saw what she was watching and started watching with her she told me all she knew about you and your family. She cried when scout passed . she knows all about Doug also. Thank you guys very much for what you have given us. Brenda
What I teach my clients: YES is the marker word that always follows a reward (treat, food, pet, toy) OK is the release command meaning you're free to do what you want (eat your meal, potty, explore) Makes things a bit easier imo
Everything I've seen you do so far is right on. He is going to learn as fast as you can teach him. It will only get better next few months as he learns you and what you expect. And he will calm and learn discipline as he ages. Keep in mind my Bella just turned 2 and was started at 8 weeks in the woods and water. Only thing I see is get that food aggression stopped immediately. It's just the puppy in him. You did good by taking his food, but wait a few seconds before returning it to him. But make sure you always give it back when he calms down. Honestly I lightly popped mine on the nose, said NO in a stern voice, took her food, and then gave it back a few seconds later after she obeyed me. There was not a 3rd time....Ever. This dog is yours, He knows you are his master and wants to do good for you. Over the next few weeks teach him to be quiet. I have my Heeler trained to be absolutely silent away from home unless other people/animals/danger approaches us. Also, she is trained not only to my words, but hand signs and motions. I recently learned that she also can read my body language and tones (fully expected) and also to READ MY LIPS. No joke. I was playing with her one night in a training session and realized she spends so much time watching my face, she understands a few thing like sit, down, up, and stay reading lips. Crazy smart some dogs are. Again, well done. You are going to be amazed and excited as you go down this new road again. :)
repetition is everything as long as you stay with in his focus and I agree stop that food aggression immediately good luck and keep it up dont give up nothing good is ever easy
absolutely about lips . trained dogs don't really know just verbal queues but intentions and what you mean . quiet /whisper training is a good addition for obvious wilderness reasons .
I can't say for sure, but I think the reason my dog doesn't ever growl if I put my hand in his dish or near his food is because I often hand fed him as a puppy, so naturally my hand was touching his food and it meant he was getting food so it was a good thing.
2 BOATING DOG TIPS: (30 years experience) - 1. - Carpeting as Joe shows. Dogs try to hang on with their claws, and shiny hard surfaces are scary on moving boats. I use outdoor black rubber-backed runner and welcome mats etc. 2. - WHITE TOWEL for hot days in small boats: You can dunk the towel in the water and lay it over your dog to cool him/her. The white reflects sunlight, and the water evaporates creating an "evaporation chill". Extremely important, as dogs are far more susceptible to heat-stroke than humans. (No sweat glands / fur). Awesome channel Joe!
Both of you are coming right along in the training. Well done! You're going to have a sweet trekking bud for years to come. Need to train that food defense out quickly. You're spot on with concern about the girls.
Now it is summer I hope you have been teaching him how to swim. Some dogs fear the water and have to be taught how to relax and stretch and swim in the water. Good for you for keeping him leashed. There are dog life jackets that have handles on them for lifting them out of the water, we were boaters and all our friends dogs had them when they went out on the water, great for the times where they slipped between the dock and the boat (it happens) where they could become disorientated and swim under the dock and drown - a quick reach and out they come. Grabbing wet fur or legs is not productive lol. I am so happy Tripper is enjoying his adventures with you!
I agree Bob Cabral, showing you love them and spending a lot of time together, shows them that there's a big difference between discipline and training. I feel you spend all the time you can in the beginning, you need to bond with the pup like a mother would, at one point, they know who the master is in the pecking order, like the growing, he's showing Joe he's the boss, and Joe has to jump right on that, by taking away the food and saying "NO" and then giving the food right back to him showing your not in competition with him, your showing the pup he's number two!!
@@trybriguy1357 Canines live in packs and follow a leader, the problem occurs when the owner doesn't make it clear to the dog that he is the leader. In that case, canine instinct will make the dog take the role of leadership. Joe is making him understand he's the pack leader, and he can be trusted.
@@GamingBT Well, I understand that, and he should be showing the puppy he is the leader, it's like pecking order in chickens. I understand exactly what he's doing, I was only making the point that the dog should learn words, and the first one I think is no, so the puppy learns the word and understands from the leader that it's not to be tolerated, only my point. Once again, this is what's worked for me, I'm not a trainer, so take my points with a grain of salt, Thanks.
holy cow joe props on all the care you are putting into this dog! from the bone marrow to the fixed-space training, it's clear youve put in a lot of time to learn about training and care. a lot of people dont know dogs actually crave this kind of mental stimulation and leadership. you are doing an amazing job!
Probably your best video to date man. Warms my Heart that you’re doing such a great job with this pup, and he knows it! Can’t wait to see more of Tripper the Wilderness Pup!!
Probably one of the best "bushcraft" video's i've watched in a while, It's good to see you've made a new companion. Such lovely dogs. Best friend a man can have.
@@@samirpekaz3846 I got my dog and she was already an adult. I've had her for almost 3 years. We are currently working with her on training. We couldn't do it earlier because she was abused in the past and was very timid. We had to slowly build a bond with her. Some of her favorite things such as going on walks and playing with other dogs used to be scary for her. We have tought her to sniff out a toy in our home and she is amazing at it and loves doing it. We've tought her some commands and hand signals and she is doing great. I'm not saying your wrong but sometimes you need to wait. It is best to do it early with puppies.
@@samirpekaz3846 Nah, you just got to be alot calmer, more patient, and have shorter training sessions when they are young. The younger you start the easier they will be to train later on down the road.
@@samirpekaz3846 Start training the day you get them. Just shorten training sessions. I usually wait until evening or something when they are calm and in the mood. VERY effective.
Holy freaking cute...omg so adorable...I know your sweet baby scout is looking down from heaven so happy that you have this cutie to keep you company from now on...
Having him sit and wait while you load up the canoe might be something good to train him joe. I cant wait to see what he's like when you first catch a fish with him in the canoe lol. Great work buddy he is going to be a great dog!
This is my favorite video on this topic! I love how enthusiastic both you and your dog were, and even the little daily life training moments, like when he growled over his bone. It's all just so helpful and adorable.
You should teach him to stop moving right away when you say a certain command. It could be useful if he meets an other animal in the wild!! Awsome video btw, Tripper looks like an awsome dog!!
I agree, this is generally one of the most important yet hardest command to master. Once mastered, things are so much safer for the dog, especially with bushcraft and outdoor activities in general.
Tripper has grown so much! You've done such a great job at training him. He learned all the canoe commands really quickly and took well to being in the water. It'd be great to see how you train him to not growl when he has food. Hopefully he outgrows it with the good care and training you and your family provide him. Love the videos Joe!
Training a high drive, protective dog is an exciting adventure in itself. Two Dobermans have taught me so much and kept me humble ( lol! ) I have found that love and the relationship and trust are keys, which you've always demonstrated. Have fun!! Can't wait to see more videos as Tripper and you grow together.
Joe, I LAUGHED,I CRIED, I SMILED AT THIS VIDEO,SO HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WITH ALL THESE GOOD THINGS COMING ABOUT!! GOOD LUCK AND GOOD ADVENTURES WITH YOUR NEW "BUDDY". KEEP THOSE VIDEOS COMING
I am very proud of you for learning how to get your puppy use to the boat. You are giving him confident along with it all. I can't wait to see you both out camping together. Have fun and good luck.
This is the best thing to watch. I noticed I had a smile on my face, all the way through! Brilliant job (a year ago! 🤔😂) You two were so made for each other! Totally catching up. I love how natural and honest you are! You are giving me some great adventures 😊 Nice one Joe 👍🏼
I was expecting a bit of time before I saw puppy/dog videos. In any case you're legend mate. Edit: There is something really beautiful about a good dog and especially a amazing owner but one is above the other, the fun part is which people think is better but both are great.
Weird how invested in another person's life I am. More so than that, how invested in Tripper's progress I am. These videos give me a very home-y and warm vibe.
I know what you mean. When I get that notification saying Joe has posted a new video i drop everything. Joe's videos are great and he's so down to earth. People love him and are loyal to his channel in a big way. Joe genuinely love's what he does and genuinely love's his fan base and he's not afraid to show it. One thing I love about Joe is he's famous, in a way, and it hasn't gone to his head like a lot of people who have done well for themselves on RUclips. Wayne (From the U.K 🇬🇧)
Fantastic work! With the growling, it's really important to interfere with his food while he's eating, for every single meal, until he learns that it's not his food and that you're letting him have it.He's such a smart puppy and you're such a good owner, I have no doubt that you'll have him accepting interference and proximity from others while he's eating in no time.
Of course no pup could ever replace Scout. He had his days in the sun and lived a wonderful life with you! You're a terrific dad and pet owner! Tripper is a whip smart dog. He learned quickly and I think will love his outdoor adventures with his Joe! Teach him to swim. Train him to the life jacket. You're well on your way! As always, I love your vlog!
Joe, you are doing so well with the training. Tripper is progressing very nicely, he’s a very smart dog,& has bonded with you so good. You are fortunate to have one another.💯❤️👍🏾😀✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
As a person who has trained many assorted animals (birds snakes cats dogs ferrets and even a rat) I have to say its not just you who thinks Tripper is extra smart, especially for his age. Sometimes you might think his progress and eagerness to be the perfect pack member is natural and typical, but not to his level. the food growling can be discouraged with one really abrupt and load "Hey!" followed by quiet words saying "you don't growl at me." he currently thinks its no biggie, but people give food AND they decide when your done. Your the pack leader. Great video of a great pup!
This has already been the most fun I've had in a while, more videos like this to come!

@@GamingBT I know what he's trying to do, I believe we both do, I was trying to make a point, that's all.
holy cow joe props on all the care you are putting into this dog! from the bone marrow to the fixed-space training, it's clear youve put in a lot of time to learn about training and care. a lot of people dont know dogs actually crave this kind of mental stimulation and leadership. you are doing an amazing job!
That last bit "Good job in the boat" and he hopped back in! Wonderful!! You guys have some exciting times ahead of you.
Probably your best video to date man. Warms my Heart that you’re doing such a great job with this pup, and he knows it! Can’t wait to see more of Tripper the Wilderness Pup!!
When Tripper jumped into the canoe with the "boat" command I clapped and scared my cat :) Yay Tripper! We are all SO proud of you and Tripper, Joe!
I reacted to that as well and spilled my coffee.
This is a phenomenal idea for video content. Well done, Joe. Love the new guy.
Thanks, I'm excited for it for sure :)
Probably one of the best "bushcraft" video's i've watched in a while, It's good to see you've made a new companion. Such lovely dogs. Best friend a man can have.
Watching Tripper fling himself into the boat is so cute!
Many don't realize that puppies are very trainable. Dont wait until they are older to start.
I thought they need at least 4-6 months before training.
Samir Pekaz that is 100% false and a bad idea to wait that long.
"good job in the boat!!!!"
*dog jumps in boat*
"i did say in the boat..."
*proceeds to give tripper treats*
XD this cracked me up!
You've got to be consistent until you can ween him off of treats.
@@confusedwhale agreed! i just thought that part was funny!
Funny. Yes. But hell is he the best dog owner I have ever seen. Immediately being consistent and rewarding him for understanding the command
it’s hilarious when he hops in the boat🤣
i love ur channel joe
Good to see you back outdoors, good to see a beautiful pup who loves to please, and always good to see Scout over there in the corner.
dude i love how smart he is and how quick he caught on , i would love to have a Dutchie!
Holy freaking cute...omg so adorable...I know your sweet baby scout is looking down from heaven so happy that you have this cutie to keep you company from now on...
Tripper is gonna be a great travel companion
Having him sit and wait while you load up the canoe might be something good to train him joe. I cant wait to see what he's like when you first catch a fish with him in the canoe lol. Great work buddy he is going to be a great dog!
Tripper is such a clever boy! Also he’s adorable and I love how his ears always stand up. Can’t wait to see more of his progress. 😊
This is my favorite video on this topic! I love how enthusiastic both you and your dog were, and even the little daily life training moments, like when he growled over his bone. It's all just so helpful and adorable.
A puppy? That's cheating! LOL Ultimate clickbait!
Nice to see you starting a new adventure with a new companion Joe.
Yankee not cheating lol
You should teach him to stop moving right away when you say a certain command. It could be useful if he meets an other animal in the wild!!
Awsome video btw, Tripper looks like an awsome dog!!
I agree, this is generally one of the most important yet hardest command to master. Once mastered, things are so much safer for the dog, especially with bushcraft and outdoor activities in general.
Its usually "DOWN". Once trained in you can relax. Still, the key is exposure to different situations and all in good time, don't want to rush it.
@@maineiacoutdoors689 yup for me it was "WOAH" and he stopped :)
This is going to be a fantastic series watching Tripper get trained! Cheers Joe! 👍
Love it! Your philosophy in dog training is wonderful, really enjoyed this video.
thank you!
Joe,
I LAUGHED,I CRIED, I SMILED AT THIS VIDEO,SO HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WITH ALL THESE GOOD THINGS COMING ABOUT!!
GOOD LUCK AND GOOD ADVENTURES WITH YOUR NEW "BUDDY". KEEP THOSE VIDEOS COMING
Its Trippers canoe, now, Joe gets to sit in the back. Nicely done, consistency is the key along with positive experience for both.
You two were so made for each other!
Totally catching up.
I love how natural and honest you are! You are giving me some great adventures 😊
Nice one Joe 👍🏼
I was expecting a bit of time before I saw puppy/dog videos. In any case you're legend mate.
Edit: There is something really beautiful about a good dog and especially a amazing owner but one is above the other, the fun part is which people think is better but both are great.
gonna be crazy watching tripper grow as I graduate and move on to college
Same here, perfect timing. Can watch him grow for many years hopefully
I’m loving this new series so far. Thanks Joe and Tripper!
his leaps like at 14:10 have to be my favorite parts
I take that back 16:10
omg im only 4 minutes in but i can already tell this is going to be an awesome series!! please dont stop
He is gonna be such a little pirate! 😍😂
love him already right!!
I sugested we give him the nickname BLACKBEARD because of his black face 😋😋
Well he has the growl down
THAT is about the cutest thing I've ever seen LOL! Man am I happy for you Joe. Look how eager he is to learn!
👌🏻 . Sat on the toilet and the notification popped up 😂 yeah boi thats me sorted for tonight, Cant wait to see tripper in action man. 🤞🏻🐾
the best kind :)
@Some Randomguy 😂
Same
Wow, Joe, this was amazing and sooo cute and lovely authentic, thank you dudes! :))
Oh sweet puppy - happiness on 4 paws - good to see you happy too, Joe, doing what comes naturally.
It is so nice to see the beginning of Tripper's grand adventure! That is one sharp little dog.
What a fascinating journey you and Tripper are embarking on. Thoroughly enjoying following along. Thankyou. Peace and love from South Wales.
I grew up training puppies, you’re doing great man, listening well to Robert caverall, keep it up man! Love your vids
The SherminatoRR *cabral
14:10 I laughed so hard. 😂😂 Anyone Who doesn't like puppies is mental.
Have a like, sir!
@@angrysammo You're very kind😋
Seriously mental! Puppies are just the best!
His name fits so well xD
Thank you for demonstrating how to train our puppies kindly and patiently. You are an inspiration.
Joe, you are doing so well with the training. Tripper is progressing very nicely, he’s a very smart dog,& has bonded with you so good. You are fortunate to have one another.💯❤️👍🏾😀✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
I have been smiling this whole video. I love that this makes you happy and it makes me happy to. I can’t wait for the future
I repeat every word you stated Bass King Fishing! Thanks Joe for sharing with us.
All your work with Trip sure is paying off, Glad He's adjusted to the Canoe. Be Well, Friends ! ATB T God Bless
He's a handsome little boy, i hope you and him have many amazing adventures together.
aww the end, he just jumped straight back into the boat, so happy for you buddy!
I’m so excited for this series! I’ve always felt that camping and the outdoors go hand in hand with companion dogs! Like peanut butter and jelly! 😊🐕👌🏽
