Black men in Boston and beyond face structural harms that affect every aspect of daily life from their safety to their mental health, but a look at the state of Black men today reveals a group that is paving the way for one another through leadership and mutual support. Basic Black host Rahsaan Hall, Esq., president and CEO of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, spoke with:
Dr. Kevin Simon, a pediatric psychiatrist at the Boston’s Children’s Hospital and the Chief Behavioral Health Officer at the Boston Public Health Commission for the City of Boston.
Jonathan Allen, the co-founder and Director of Development at Leadership Brainery, an organization that creates equitable access to master’s and doctoral degrees and leadership opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Adrian Major, the founder of Dreamcatcher Initiative, an organization that creates pathways and programs to empower youth and that will help them achieve their dreams and realize their potential.
James Mackey, the Vice Chair of the Black Men and Boys Commission for the City of Boston. He is also a community advocate, a Black male health and wellness group facilitator and the founder of Brothers Building, and DFFRNT! a clothing brand focused on social and emotional wellness.
Gabriel Petit, a Dreamcatcher Initiative mentee and participant.

I love the conversation Im excited to see part 2. Im curious if you feel its the right move to include inter racial or other ethnic activists or community leaders that are working to up lift young black male professionals.
