The most racists people I have ever dealt with are black and many friends and family members refuse to deal with them in a any situation, but I'm talking about african-americans, blacks in other parts of the world tend to be wonderful! I thought I had experienced racism back in high school until I realized my classmate had a devastating fear of germs!!! The boy would wipe everything that I had touched before using it & eventually I uttered " It's not contagious Matthew"referring to my blackness to which he replied" It's the germs & bacteria i worry about" needles to say I felt really bad as I had bad mouthed the poor guy & made him out to be this racist. Sometimes even us as black people we tend to look for racism and are almost always waiting for it.

I live in Indiana on the border of Ohio and everybody gets along with each other. Annual fireworks. The outdoor park including the water feature. The large duck pond. The picnic table areas. The outdoor swimming pool. Grocery shopping. My neighborhood. My apartment complex. We even have popular bars in the city. I once had a really nice black man ask me where a good bar was. I gave him the name and the directions he thanked me then went on his way. I would feel comfortable around him any day of the week.
Maybe read the replies of others before discrediting my point of view. I never said all was terrible, I said my people still live that reality in 2023. Both your view and my views can be true at the same time ⏲️

Definitely, some things have changed , like blacks are more likely to be able to shop on Madison Avenue in NYC, or Michigan Avenue in Chicago.
I'm from Boston, and black people live in places they could have never lived in before.
She was worried that her white child would be treated like an actual black and end up killed by the police or in jail. She just to nice to say it.

The housing areas are very separated creating an outlier effect. If the episode had been filmed in the city where we live in Indiana on the border of Ohio it would have never aired. We live in a mixed area, in a mixed neighborhood, in a mixed apartment complex. Everybody is treated the same and everybody gets along with each other. We are a melting pot city among many, many, many others.

This show reminded me of a lot of the racism that I have experienced simply living in the predominantly white county here in Maryland (2023) for almost four years. Oftentimes, I truly believe that things will never change and I’m constantly reminded that we haven’t come all that far after all.
The Oprah Winfrey Show is my all time favourite tv show. I'm a black South African, and after apartheid, racism really went down, only because we are the majority, as black people. I can't imagine, what it's like, to be African American. I'm scared to visit America.
Please come visit America. This show is very old. Please don't believe everything in the media.

The white people in the audience were so upset (understandably). However, most of them still seemed to feel that the experiment was more harsh than actual, true racism.
They were too privileged to relate to the lesson. They just were not ready for it.

This episode was actually phenomenal. Unfortunately it was ahead of its time and people couldn't appreciate it as a lesson in racism the way it was intended.

She used to be *wonderful* • then she unleashed Dr Phil & Dr Oz on the world, & promoting a lot of pseudoscience • however over all her influence has been far more good than poor, & this episode is great • heartbreaking, but well‐done.

It's amazing how I've heard so many black people say Oprah only caters to white women when I've personally seen so many episodes where she's really articulating the black experience!! And saying this is what it is. She's literally done 100s of shows devoted to this topic. The people who say this obviously only watched an episode here and there. WTF was she supposed to do, talk about this every episode????

@@siddayeHonestly, I feel she articulates it better than anyone in entertainment. She threw a whole multi-million dollar ball just to honor black women legends in entertainment. Sent 100 black men on full scholarship to Morehouse College. Spike Lee was on her show in the 90s and thanked her for giving money to him to finish the movie the way he wanted as the studio heads didn't give him the adequate budget to do Malcolm X justice. Built a school in Africa for black girls. And this is just a fraction of what she does for her own people. People are just never satisfied.

Wow, what an outstanding and intelligent Ivy-League-trained Lawyer, Journalist/Author! I read his book and I highly recommend it. Excellent interview Ms. Winfrey!!! But Who would have thought that today, in 2023, eleven years from the date of this show, Mr. Lawrence Otis Graham passed away at age 59 (Feb 19, 2021) from unknown causes at his home in Chappaqua, N.Y. RIP Mr. Graham.

Before it went out of business, went X-mas shopping at Carson, Pirie Scott, spent a couple of hundred dollars. Next morning (opened around 10 am, store was basically empty of customers), before I had to be at work, went back to buy one more gift, and noticed I was being followed around the store, immediately turned around and walked out.
Got home that evening, gathered up every item purchased the day before, including receipts, and, next day returned it ALL. Never went into that department store again.
I love Oprah! Sadly a lot hasn’t changed. Everyone needs to watch this.
Brilliant! Absolutely BRILLIANT episode that exposes the horrific realities of this country- past and present! Oprah's interviewing style and questions were impeccable-to emphasize the big picture/subject matter. The perfect mix of empathy, humor, and seriousness. Laurence Otis Graham(RIP) is on a whole other level of BRILLIANT...I could listen to him talk all day. So happy this full episode was re-uploaded...so those of us who were born in the 90's...can compare it today. Wonderful food for thought and the psyche when analyzing your life experience!

I read the book too and it’s an eye opening and hard to read. The treatment of my people is still difficult but I refused to hate because others do it. Hatred is not and never will be good.

As a white woman, I honestly did not know that this kind of racism was going on and the detrement it has caused. I have always believed that black people just used their complaints as racist unjustifiably. I admit to fearing black men, not women but, I have tried to treat all people with love. She’s so very smart!! I think she’s great! She would actually rip this nonsense apart! I grew up in the Deep South and never saw racism! Blacks and whites were poor. And I watched almost every Oprah show but I guess I missed this one because I was working 2 jobs, married and raising 3 children.

It's nice that she greeted her audience at the end of the show. We visited the view last year. We got to speak to Sunny at the end of the show but most were headed back stage.
I was in the Oprah audience in 1992 and she greeted every one of us personally after tye show. Shook everybody's hand & asked how they were.
