Gero - who later created those other androids. He didn't need the dragonballs to conquer the world. So why wish for that? Instead asking for being taller - that makes more sense.
Brice Armstrong was a great choice for the Dragon Ball narrator. As Dale Kelly and Kyle Herbert fit the more action packed Dragon Ball Z. Brice's calm approach for Dragon Ball fit the narrative.
when I think of a dragon ball villain my first thought is the pilaf gang, but that is mostly because I got in my head a "what if pilaf wanted to take over the world" which honestly has more impact than you might think. These come to mind for the early stuff. Who gets the first wish? If it is bulma we know she marries vegeta, but lets be honest a perfect husband =/= to a perfect boyfriend and does it pick the dragons decision or based on her desire for a boyfriend. When do people discover the giant monkey and what happens then since well hey it might not be with the group. the pilaf gang not wanting to take over the planet wont free piccolo. And that's just early stuff that could have ripples. like well no piccolo means no piccolo, no finding yajarobi as you aren't chasing down the one who killed krillin, and well no dead krillin. no piccolo to help against raditz. kami would still be around though and well no nail fusion no training gohan while goku is dead assuming uncle raditz doesn't just take gohan with him instead of goku to be the 4th saiyan to work for freeza. so many variables.
At least in the anime, the way the final part off the arc played out felt like a deserved payoff for Goku, having defeated someone by and large far stronger than any single member of the Red Ribbon. By the time he fights General Black, there's no reason logically that he should be struggling at that point. When I watched it, it was frankly gratifying to see him barrel through the entire army. It was the culmination of his efforts, and a good way to show how strong he is in preparation for him facing off against even worse threats later. That said, I can imagine the pacing of manga would make it seem a bit more abrupt and easy. They just did such a good job with the original Dragon Ball series...
Yeah goku beats the last bit of the army in like 3 chapters. I will admit the anime added a lot of extra scenes of him fighting the army. But as I said I primarily rely on the manga when I make these videos. It might also be I just reaaaallllyyyyy love the path to power movie, which makes commander black a genuine threat.
🎗The Red Ribbon Army are my Favorite Villains in the entire dragon ball franchise and I'm Happy to see someone sees that as well and making the tribute to this video. They've been part of all the media's in dragon ball from the original, Z, Super, GT, majority of the Games, & maybe even Daima. They've imparted the catalyst of many ideas & Adversaries throughout that truly linked the original to all the others like the androids & Perfect Cell himself; Along with getting more in-depth over time thanks to Fighter-z with 21 and the Superhero movie. Speaking of movies; The path of power was the one DB movie I accidentally miss and not seeing yet, So thank you for this reminder that way I can see it for myself. 🪖One day, the Red Ribbon Saiyan will Rise❤️🔥
1:11-2:00 But those "singular villains" also had multiple more enemies before them who were stronger than the previous ones: 1. Before Vegeta, it was Raditz, the Saibamen & Nappa with the common goal of destroying earth 2. Before Frieza it was Guldo, Cui, Zarbon, Dodoria & The Ginyu Force with the common goal of quest for power & world domination 3. Before Cell it was Androids 19, 20, 17, 18 & 16 all with the common goal to destroy Goku 4. Before Majin Buu it was Spopovich, Yamu, Pui Pui, Yakon, Dabura, Babidi & Majin Vegeta which the conquest of destroying the universe
Well, if you follow the timeline Toryama did for Dragon Ball online, everytime the Red Ribbon Army appear, it's a planned move by C9, the cyborg made with the body of Commander Red. He even launch a conquest of the galaxy, assembling mercenaries, pirates and disillusioned military from all races under his command.
red ribbon is where they went all out on evil army and some of greatest concepts were created based on events of those chapters also "red ribbon army" - literally nobody has red ribbons
Ermmm acshually...☝🤓Officer/Commander Black is the only member on the Red Ribbon who actually had a red ribbon pinned to his blazer (for some reason, his redesign in The Path of Power doesn't have it)
While the designs in the first Arc might be reminiscent of Journey to the West, there is very little similarity in the meaning of each story. Wukong doesn't ever experience some of the cosmic wisdom that comes out of that first Arc.
I loved General Blue as a kid that scene with Bulma in the cave cemented him as a character wirth remembering in my mind. Although I do have to add one correction; while Toriyama probably was inspired somewhat by the SS the actual designs of the Red Ribbon army in the series is inspired far more by the SA which preceded the the SS and much like general blue became heavily infested with homo-schmexuals.
Red Ribbon actually pulls from a ton of different arms Blue is Nazi White is the Soviet union Yellow is the US air force Red is Napoleon and a Bond villain.
Great analysis! The Red Ribbon Army saga is one of my favorite arcs in Dragon Ball. However, I disagree with your assessment of the finale being something of an anticlimactic letdown. Tao Pai Pai is supposed to be the culmination of this arc, showcasing just how strong Goku has gotten thus far. Up until this point, the RRA relied almost entirely on military might and technology, underscored by the fact that Goku was able to mop the floor with its personnel in hand to hand combat, making them look like a joke. Even General Blue, who is insanely powerful in his own right, barely holds a candle to Goku despite having psychic abilities. After defeating Tao, Goku's rampage through RR headquarters is merely the "epilogue" to this arc; Adjutant Black takes out Commander Red himself-both are "pencil pushing" executives rather than actual fighters-while the entire army disintegrates, something which has happened throughout history when despotic regimes/terrorist organizations subsequently collapse due to tyranny and infighting. In a nutshell, Goku's increased strength antithetically mirrors the RRA's core weakness, that of how an organization based on greed, ruthlessness and a callous disregard for its own rank and file was ultimately destined to fall at the hands of our hero protagonist.
Without the Red Ribbon Army, Dr. Gero, the Red Ribbon Androids, Cell, Super 17, the Neo Red Ribbon Army with Carmine, Magenta, The Gamma Androids & Cell Max would have never existed
I have an issue with the Path to Power segment of the video. Goku wasn't supposed to struggle against the RRA because of his interaction with the super ordinate malice that was Tao Pai Pai. The whole point and meaning of Goku's fight with the RRA is that he has overcome what they represent, and Goku must wield the malice that he learned from Tao in order to do it. Interpersonal character drama is actually not peak story telling, that would belong to symbology and myth.
Disagree on the end of the arc. Goku EARNED that stomp like he earned Super Saiyan slapping Freeza into the dirt on Namek. Which was also pretty one sided, you just see it as different because he struggled against Freeza early on in the fight. Black is also underrated. He didn't hurt Goku outside the mech suit, but he did catch him off guard. I dislike Path to Power. Not hate, there's a lot of good visuals in it and it is okay enough of a story telling device. But a lot of these recap movies are meant for people who didn't see or read the original, more meant for new fans to give them a concise telling so they can catch up or tell if they'd like the series. Having actually read the first half of the Dragon Ball manga it felt like a watered down version of it. Which it was.
That's a perfectly fair opinion to have. I hope it didn't come off as if I hate the end of the src. Just that I get underwhelmed when I rewatch/reread it.
My problem with Path to Power was they made Goku maybe a little too powerful. He's able to do vanishing in the first scenes, and his Kamehameha destroys an entire fleet. Same goes when he used it against Black without almost no training. But I totally do hope they add Gen. Blue to more games and stuff. I feel like he's very slept on as far as villains go and I loved his fight in the underwater cave.
I'd argue that Demon King Piccolo is the most influential Dragon Ball villain, while this arc first created this formal of Goku vs this enemy force, Commander Red isn't a very active antagonist and only orders around stronger antagonists. Demon King Piccolo on the other hand leads the way for the powerful opponetn, he sets the precedant of what Dragon Ball villains can be, and he's the best Dragon Ball villain of all time because where Commander Red walks, DKP runs. He leads the way for the Saiyans, Frieza, and especially Cell and Buu, and he's more effective and pushes the heroes further than any of these characters have
I agree. The title is a bit clickbaity I'll admit, I'd say the Demon King Piccolo arc is when Toriyama really understood how to use the formula he made with the army.
@@ChitinChazz Demon King Piccolo is really the goat fr. He's the most competant main villain in all of Dragon Ball. He does everything he planned to accomplish and didn't really make any mistakes. It's not his fault Goku got an ass pull power up to beat him
The reason Goku struggled with the RR army early on was because he wasn't strong enough yet once he went to Korin Tower twice and beat Tao he could easily blow right through them that's when he got to the lvl of destroying army's only other characters at the time that could do that was general tao roshi and crane school master
Thanks for teaching me a bit more about Red Ribbon. I've been a fan of Z and sorta if GT, and I know why they're important (Androids) but not much else. Tao Pai Pai was a legit menace and now I have a frame of reference for some of the RR other than Gero and I think Wheeler. I guess my question becomes if Mai and the other 2 are apart of that organization why did they make it to Super or GT with the same mission?
Mai, Shu, and Pilaf are not members of the RR. They are a separate faction that also sought world domination via the Dragon Balls, but as always, are incompetent and barely managed to obtain all 7 balls. You should watch DB if you like Z and GT. DB is my favorite of the 6 anime rn.
@@MakenaForest Thanks for the lesson, I always thought they were. I just know there's some things in DB that happens and some get more shine than others.
I kinda have a counterpoint to your viewpoint of Goku being too strong towards the end of the Red Ribbon Arc because it does something very important and that’s the overall establishment of the WAY he fights. Hear me out cause that might sound stupid at first. In Gokus fight with Tenshinhan he explains that he never starts a fight at full strength because he needs to know how strong his opponent is before he unleashes his true strength. he knows he can kill someone now especially after what he just experienced with the red ribbon army. His fight at the base against the red ribbon army is the first time he shows us this. He’s coming off a victory against a guy who can kill one of the strongest humans at this point in time with his tongue. At the base he never once hits someone full strength and anyone thats killed isn’t personal and mostly circumstantial. Goku continues to fight this way and only deviates from it when he goes to fight Cell because homeboy was fighting for his life out there. It’s part of the reason why Gohan was confused. He knows Goku never goes all out in the beginning of a fight and fed his assumption that Goku was stronger than him when that wasn’t the case at all. This point is pretty much only explained in early dragon ball and then the reader is left to remember and assume this from that point forward. Don’t sleep on its introduction!
This group taught me the dangers of pedophiles, and what signs to look for to avoid them. I'm very grateful, because when I was young, a man who acted just like Blue would try talking to me while I was playing outside, and I later found out he had commited crimes against other young boys before
Totally agree with Goku seeming to strong during his fight in RR headquarters. Maybe it is my liking of One Piece but his friends really should have helped him by fighting soldiers and lesser commanders instead of Goku soloing everything. That said I also disliked how easily Goku seemed to surpass Tao.
bro, we really have to say "no homo" in 2024? is it still that scary? guess thats why they call it "homophobia". Tao-Pai-Pai is the actually scary dude here. Goku's grandpa was actually killed by a giant ape, Goku knew this, only he didnt know that it was actually him.
I assume Tao better represented that. RR Army was probably Toriyama using the Red Scare at that time to make a villain group that mirrored every military factions logical conclusion of world domination. Having the leader being a figure head who's cut throat but not intelligent enough to strategize his operations like his delagates do. Only useful for attracting people more valuable than him and using ruthless tactics to suppress any detractors.
So, given the era Dragon Ball was written in, is it wrong to guess that some inspiration for the Red Ribbon Army also took inspiration from various communist movements?
I hope you enjoy the video. It's not a full start to finish breakdown of the arc, so keep that in mind. Also I was up at 3am editing, so I did get a bit lazy with the project. when I think of a dragon ball villain my first thought is the pilaf gang, but that is mostly because I got in my head a "what if pilaf wanted to take over the world" which honestly has more impact than you might think.
I think General Black should have put up a better fight. He was in a mech suit after all, but that's what makes Path to Power so satisfying.
As a child, I freaking loved the Red Ribbon Saga.
Along with the Buu Saga, it was probably the one I re-read the most.
1:11-2:00
But those "singular villains" also had multiple more enemies before them who were stronger than the previous ones:
1. Before Vegeta, it was Raditz, the Saibamen & Nappa with the common goal of destroying earth
2. Before Frieza it was Guldo, Cui, Zarbon, Dodoria & The Ginyu Force with the common goal of quest for power & world domination
3. Before Cell it was Androids 19, 20, 17, 18 & 16 all with the common goal to destroy Goku
He even launch a conquest of the galaxy, assembling mercenaries, pirates and disillusioned military from all races under his command.
red ribbon is where they went all out on evil army
and some of greatest concepts were created based on events of those chapters
also "red ribbon army" - literally nobody has red ribbons
Ermmm acshually...☝🤓Officer/Commander Black is the only member on the Red Ribbon who actually had a red ribbon pinned to his blazer (for some reason, his redesign in The Path of Power doesn't have it)
Whats funny is, Red Ribbon did complete their mission. (Through Gero)
While the designs in the first Arc might be reminiscent of Journey to the West, there is very little similarity in the meaning of each story. Wukong doesn't ever experience some of the cosmic wisdom that comes out of that first Arc.
I love how General Black is... well... you know
The idea of the RRA wining is one of my favorite ideas in DB
I think an entire timeline being erased because of Zamasu is a bigger deal lol
They are my favorite dragon Ball villains alongside the Shadow Dragons,Baby, and King Piccolo.
Soon, you'll have a huge catalog of DB/DBZ videos where you will be properly acknowledged for the superior content creator vs team sold-outstar.
Since im german now i understand why i like them so much.
Red Ribbon actually pulls from a ton of different arms
Blue is Nazi
White is the Soviet union
Yellow is the US air force
Red is Napoleon and a Bond villain.
It wasn't so much the homo that was the problem with his as the involvement of children.
Then he died from a man who penetrated him.
would want a prequel spin-off on how the red ribbon army formed
OG Dragon Ball had fire booking
I love how if it wasn’t for these experiences in Goku’s life he could have never of reached his potential in ultra instinct
Without the Red Ribbon Krillin would've been like us, maidenless.
Path to power looks dope
Man I really gotta watch all of Dragon Ball.
Without the Red Ribbon Army, Dr. Gero, the Red Ribbon Androids, Cell, Super 17, the Neo Red Ribbon Army with Carmine, Magenta, The Gamma Androids & Cell Max would have never existed
No shit Sherlock.
Red Ribbon film crew
General Blue was the Diddy of DB 😭
This show was fr very intriguing to watch
2:50 as a child I always found funny that Silver has the same voice as adult Goku (in the latam dub)
Hail Warband, hail Chazz. 1st
I'm glad GT brought the OG Red Ribbon Army together back in the Super 17 Saga.
@@ChitinChazz Oh no, definitely just underwhelmed. Same with me and Path of Power.
It's not his fault Goku got an ass pull power up to beat him
Also you need to make a Video about how the Red Ribbon Army inspired Team Rocket come on
Well Tao did a canonical ped, so idk if he's all bad.
The reason Goku struggled with the RR army early on was because he wasn't strong enough yet once he went to Korin Tower twice and beat Tao he could easily blow right through them that's when he got to the lvl of destroying army's only other characters at the time that could do that was general tao roshi and crane school master
I know, I just wish the army had one last trick up their sleeves or something.
Reminded me a little of nick fury and shield, no lie
I just know there's some things in DB that happens and some get more shine than others.
i love the army and the androids. General Blue is a proto chad.
Lore of The most influential villain in Dragon Ball: The Red Ribbon Army momentum 100
Path to power version of commander black? Is he commander white?
General Blue definitely went to some of diddies parties
I hope they add Ninja Murasaki to Sparking Zero!!!! He was so funny
4:34 He also likes kids.
What happened to commander Black between series/manga and the movie? Why is it a different person?
Yall lowjey sleeping on the Red Ribbon army
@15:03 based script Chazz
The guy in the thumbnail looks like Jshlatt
Every humanoid with a mustache, eh?
There's so much peak in all the dragon ball series, and yet so many flaws at the same time
Goku thinks he’s him
This group taught me the dangers of pedophiles, and what signs to look for to avoid them. I'm very grateful, because when I was young, a man who acted just like Blue would try talking to me while I was playing outside, and I later found out he had commited crimes against other young boys before
No wonder Austrian Painter had his group outed.
Because YT censors.
Since its journey to the west I always thought they were a metaphor for the communist Chinese army
There's a Nazi, a Soviet, and even a Chinese mercenary.
Its glossed over that one of gokus earliest and weakest feats of power is single handily obliterating a major military power. Was goku even ten yet ?
Spoilers: The What If's in Sparking Zero are very underwhelming.
General Blue isn’t only gay, HE’S ALSO A PDF FILE.
This aint tiktok, you can say pedophile
I really wish the original series got a Kai edit.
So is Eighter dead or alive?
@@axo4383 if you're asking about path to power, they used the dragon balls to bring him back. Very wholesome ending to a great movie.
I aint even like into dragon ball, I saw it once. But tight jawn. Subsequently subscribing for more information
You know its funny that even in the dragon ball world that half of the world's problems can be linked to their version of nazis.
Nice. Some Dragon Ball Content. Not Z,not GT,not Super. Just Base OG Dragon Ball.
I think Red Ribbon are more like America ww2 and cold war army
