It is amazing to me what is being offered today in terms of lens for the Sony Alpha cameras. I believe that the best thing to happen to users of Sony cameras is that Sony opened up the lens mount to third party manufacturers. It works both ways as well. Because of the generous amount of lens options at a reasonable price, more people buy Sony mirrorless cameras. I am a little surprised at the chromatic aberration issue but as you stated, it can be solved in Post. Hope you are doing well. I look forward to your videos even though I am pretty much out of the everyday camera business.
Thank you, that is indeed a big advantage, especially in combination with successfully reverse-engineered AF algorithm and low pixel density on A7III sensor.
At your recommendation from our discussion a few days ago from your video "Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Review with Sony A7III", I did some research, and the version II of this lens is arriving today. :) Now I just have to wait for my a7 IV to come in five days. I'm bummed by the chromatic aberration (I wonder how the vers II will be; probably the same), but I hope it's not as bad as my older Nikon 50mm f/1.4. But I am excited about the AF! The bokeh seems better than Sony's 85mm f/1.8. The pricing is great at $400. I'm glad I don't have to buy a dock to upgrade the lens' firmware (having the connector built in is smart/great!). Anyhow, thank you so much for recommending this brand so that I did the research! 6:30 I don't know if Sony will ever work on focus breathing for other lenses than their own (I'm not holding my breath), but I'll gladly accept since the a7 IV has that ability.
Great review man! Did you have any issues with the A7III slowing down or blacking out whilst using it? People have said they’ve had issues with the camera turning off whilst using the lens. That’s the only thing putting me off as I want something reliable for weddings
I tend to use a screw-in lens hood for my Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 lens. The screw-in lens hood stays on better and protects the lens as well or better than an OEM hood.
Is this based on experience? My experience has been different. I once fell with my Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS lens with screw-in lens hood hitting the cement hood first. The hood shattered but the lens was unhurt, That hood was the best five bucks worth of equipment I ever purchased, It saved a very expensive lens!
@@richardpcrowe Yes it is. I have seen plenty of lenses with stuck filter that couldn't be removed because people bumped into something. There is even higher probability that it will happen with lens hood.
I have a sony a7iii but not sure which mount adapter I need for the viltrox 85mm f1.8 stm since the lens are kind of small to fit in my Sony a7iii . Any suggestion ?
Third-party FE f/1.8 with AF 24mm: No one 35mm: No one 50mm: No one 85mm: Batis, Viltrox, Tokina Third party are forced by Sony to make too many f/1.4 and f/2.8 primes that could potentially drive new users to other systems.
85mm Batis is rebranded Sony FE 85mm F1.8 which is made by Tamron, Viltrox and Tokina 85mm F1.8 are the same lenses. I don't think that Sony is forcing 3rd party manufacturers to do anyhitng.
@@TheHybridShooter The demand for f/1.8 at other focal lengths are higher, especially for those new to the system. I cannot think of another reason why it takes Sony 7 years to release a 35 f/1.8 and Tamron a couple of months to release three f/2.8 redundant primes.
@@TheHybridShooter Did you know that Sony is a big shareholder of Tamron? Perhaps the biggest single shareholder although they have no majority in the company.
Thank you! Exactly, much better than 273rd review with portraits, right? I hate doing what everybody else does. I will be reviewing 14mm F1.8 landscape lens soon. Expect a lot of portraits.
This is a great lens but for the price , i rather add a little bit more for Sony 85mm f1.8 which is more reliable :) In my region , the price is 50$ different
This is lens is 100% reliable, so it can't be more reliable. A lot of people are also complaining about the bokeh on Sony FE 85mm F1.8 but that is a subjective matter.

Awesome review! Filter thread and minimal focussing distance?
It's almost 2 years you own this lens. Is it still good now?

Thank you, no issues at all.
I think I read that was before the latest firmware update. Should be fixed now apparently
Thanks for the video! is this lens working OK wit face and eye detection?
You're welcome, yes, eye and face detect works.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks, regards from Sanit Petersburg.
Is it good for video?
Does we get stabilisation
Whens the xt200 coming? 😍
Hopefully on Sunday.
Oh crap didn't think I'd see Dev Ed here!
is this good for weddings? video only
Yes, it is.
Great video. Nice to have options. Samyang, Zeiss, g-master, Sony 1.8. The Sony 1.8 used is pretty compelling to me closely followed by the samyang.
Where is this filmed it looks very familiar?....
Bratislava

I don't like to use those because it can damage the filter thread in case that you bump into something.

Have you tried reviewing the mark ii?
Great video and commentary as always.
Thank you!
How does it compare to Sony FE 85mm F/1.8?
I don't know, I don't have one.
Jj mam tohle sklo a je velice slusny, na sony A7II obcas hleda, jinak opravdu dobre za ty penize! Cekam na dalsi skla co pry maj brzo jit ven!

You don’t need any adapter, just make sure to get E-mount version.
I know this will be sick
Why is it so wide??
What do you mean?
At 3:27 you're f2.8 image looks much worse than the f1.8. Is it just my eyes or is that the case?
Is the lens decentered?
I see more detail and contrast at F2.8.
This lens fit with E- Mount for a 6600
Orlando Dueñas yes, but it will crop in
Can you make a review of Samyang 85mm f1.4?
I unfortunately can't, I don't have one.
WOW! I would have never guessed that you have a slovak accent!
People usually say that I have Nordic accent :)
@@TheHybridShooter nah, not nordic either. I thought there is 5% russian....The rest is impossible to pin down :-)

good job from indonesia
