He wasn't entirely wrong either. Under intense emotion he reached a new plateau as did Gohan (against Cell). Vegeta certainly wouldn't have snapped at the sight of any of the Z fighters dying against Frieza; they were just allies of convenience.
Super ruined several characters mainly goku though. Turned him into a complete dumbass even when it gets down to business. They turned goku stupid in terms of technical fighting knowledge as well as if hes just the stupid silly goofy guy who beats up bad guys and not someone who knows when to show that side of his and know when to get serious.

What scared me the most about Frieza is that he kept raising his power through transformations and it felt like he was infinite. Until that point in Dragon Ball there was not a single enemy with that many transformations.
Astonishing how much choreography and the right type of animation sells a scene. Every blow looks more powerful than 99% of what came out of Super and then we're supposedly at divine levels of power.

Peaked at UI and the episodes directed by Yuya Takahashi as well as the finale. But yeah, all in all it was a very mediocre show that never reached its potential. When Super returns I hope they really put some consideration into the art and animation, as well as the air time so it's not this watered down kiddy friendly version.

37:25 is the real beginning of the fight. Freeza powered up to 50% and Goku truly became scared and almost hopeless. Goku never felt like that again against ANY VILLIAN.
Shit they actually took out the dialogue where Goku starts to give up and Vegeta gives him the pep talk from the afterlife....also they took out Gokus vision of Freeza going to earth and killing everyone.

It took so long to get to this battle back in the day! I can't even remember how many times we got to Goku's arrival on Namek and then the series started over. 😮💨 😢 😅 We only got 1 episode each weekday in the late 90s, later getting 2 during the early 00s, on the Toonami block. On special occasions we would get a few hours of episodes or a movie like Tree of Might or The World's Strongest. DBZ hadn't been English dubbed past his arrival yet and they only dubbed so many episodes at a time after that. Plus, we only got the Ocean dub until Goku's arrival and then it switched to Funi suddenly. It was kind of surreal bc the voices changed so drastically. It took a while for the actors to settle into their character, so they evolved as the rest of the Namek arc went along.

I agree, Bruce Faulconer has the best soundtrack. It makes the fights seem and feel so much more realistic and alive!!! The Japanese soundtrack is a bit dulled and and kind of lame like sounding when it’s intense battles.

Iv'e been looking for a filler free full Goku vs.Frieza fight to show my younger brother where he can watch it and easily digest what my Passion about this show is still at 31 years old its harder in the UK where I live to explain the hype behind Dragon Ball is especially when they say its just a cartoon and I'm all but slapping myself senseless having to explain what it is and what Anime and Manga over here where I live,I was dreading having to cut it and edit it myself with my blurays which would have taken me at least a week and more so thank you!
Ahhhhh this was when my childhood became legendary. The legendary Super Saiyan Goku will always be peak anime history moment. Even with Dragon ball Super I loved how Far Goku, Vegeta and the other have come.
