Imagine Conte having got us 4th twice in a row, and fans like you wanted everyone gone and tear it up for a complete overhaul when the most plausible way was to build on the squad we got that took us 4th. That's how longevity is established. Replace one aging player for a younger player who played first team football in a relevant league. Not have a clear out and brining in kids and a washed up German pace merchant on loan
This is what a painful rebuild looks like.. Theres a high ceiling but also holes in the floor.. In Ange and the we trust.. Amazing things will come 🏆🏆🏆🏆
@@MoTHFC Yeah because no manager is ever here long enough to see one through & that 2018/2019 season was the one where we had a chance but the board didn't let Poch bring in anyone; 2 transfer windows with no signings when we were in the Champions League & made it to the final.
8:19 - Very true. Ange needs to take that into account and not play suicidal football and compensate for the lack of personnel and the squad fatigue. Don't invert the fullbacks, play on the counter, stay structured, screen the inexperienced and makeshift defense, and keep it tight against the big teams, conserve energy between matches every three to four days.
This is very well said and probably the best comment I've heard for Ange being more of a pragmatist. Still think Ange is coming in for too much criticism given all the injuries and inability to rotate the team, but your comment is quality.
@@JackBrohamer-oc6jrthe performance was still inconsistent with a fit squad. Remember that since the first 10 games of last season, we are in mid table form. It's one thing to rebuild, but it's another to see the rebuild but don't see any progress since last year.
The players looked lethargic for large parts and struggled to close liverpool down but they were able to score three goals. They also showed character in pulling it back from 5-1 to 5-3.
Not sure what's led to Guesty's confusion over starting the same XI as midweek. Those are the players we have. Udogie wasn't fit for the game, our three other fit senior players were Reguilon, Werner and Brennan. Reguilon is, well, no shit, right? Brennan really did not make a case for himself off the bench and Kulusevski scored again to prove why he's needed on the pitch. Timo you can pretty much say the same, though Son contributed so little and showcased that he can't play this much anymore. Makes me incredibly jealous of Salah who seems genuinely better than his younger years while still playing a LOT of football. Unless he wanted us to start the U21s and throw away the match against his rivals :P
Funny, both Werner and Johnson was brought in by Ange. I bet you said walier in the season that they were decent squad players. If the first team players are so fatigued, the only way to get around that is to rotate. But we couldn't right because it was Liverpool, then why not rest them up against MANU? Sounds like bad man management by Ange to me.
@Narodov1 First of all, in relation to Timo and Brennan: Timo is noticably worse than last season in terms of the effort he's putting in and output on the pitch. He was fine last season as a squad option, not sure how Ange was meant to know he'd change this season. Brennan I've honestly never rated, he does so little defensively and a better winger feels quite crucial. And as for rotating... do you think that putting in 2 different players for one match would make the team half as fresh as Liverpool? Ignoring, of course, that Timo was ill for the Utd match iirc, so there was literally one change that could be made in that game. Don't be daft.
I firmly believe that without Europa we would have been challenging the top of the table. We have a stronger squad than last year. The silly mistakes that cost us last year aren't happening from the regulars (it took the introduction of Forster and Gray as CB to get an example). We're scoring freely from every position - last season we struggled to put the ball in the net. What we don't have is a bigger squad - we've just replaced the outgoings, we haven't added yet. Then we have literally double the number of matches, and we can't cope with that. They're absolutely knackered from playing twice each week, and picking up injuries as a result. Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, even Man U have years of experience with big squads and regular player rotations - Spurs doesn't. They've built that depth over multiple years and now just replenish each season. We don't have that depth and that needs time to rectify, it can't be achieved quickly (financially or finding/negotiating for the right players).
@@jacklegros6614 But who does? Newcastle had the exact same problems last year. The clubs who can cope have had millions pumped into their clubs to buy essentially 2 or 3 full teams. The problem is the crazy number of matches. Let's not forget that, ironically, the EPL was created because the old first division had too many teams and forced players to play too much. We now have EPL matches and Europa matches every week.
@@jacklegros6614 Qualifying for Europa league *irregularly* makes things difficult. Financially you need to invest in far more players than you would do normally. That squad needs to be of a higher standard to avoid performance drops that come with rotation. That's a squad size that you probably can't afford to maintain without the extra income from Europe. It takes time to assemble that group of players and if you haven't qualified in the previous two seasons, it's unlikely you'll have enough to maintain performance levels in both leagues at the same time. If you're working within financial fair play rules, it'll take you time to assemble them because your budget is limited. Big Clubs who have qualified for two or three seasons running have likely assembled that extra "work force" and have earned the extra income to maintain it. Whether we like it or not, football clubs are a business and the books need to balance. I suspect that's why Levy was pushing for a super league where clubs were guaranteed a spot for the long term, because that allows you to plan your financial investment in a stable way.
At least it was entertaining (legitimately). A loss seemed the likeliest event at any rate but it was edge of the seat for most the match as we never seemed to give up. I'd rather that pinball football than trying to park the bus to stem the tide & it reminded me of the ending of Point Blank.
Stay the course. Growth comes with pain, learning with mistakes. The four year project has already seen a change of style, identity and ways of thinking; the significant removal of pre-Ange players; the early building of a new, dynamic squad; and performances which generate goals and can hold teams. Imagine the team in two years time - hardened, resilient, focused and a clear understanding of what is required, with greater depth. Spurs have the capacity to move from a sound club to a powerful club with a clear alignment.
Can't blame Forster! No player actually changed direction to react to the ball bobbling up (except Forster). The ball unfortunately fell in the path that MacAllister was moving in and he headed it in!
