- In today's video, we will build a neo-retro road bike on the BASSO LOTO frame from the turn of the 80s/90s with a completely modern Campagnolo Chorus 12speed set. The frame has been repainted in the older design of the Basso brand in color "Saronni red" and completed with a straight BLB fork. The build is slightly affected by a small surgical procedure on my left middle finger...it explains the sometimes unnaturally erect position. And for the last few minutes I had to use a stunt double like a proper TV star because I broke my hand on top of it all... I hope that despite these imperfections you will enjoy our new video. V dnešním videu si postavíme neoretro silniční kolo na rámu Basso Loto z přelomu 80/90 let se zcela moderní sadou Campagnolo Chorus 12speed. Rám je přelakovám do staršího designu kol značky Basso v takové "Saronni red" a doplněný rovnou vidlicí BLB. Stavba je trošku poznamenána malým chirurgickým zákrokem na prostředníku levé ruky...proto ta někdy nepřirozeně vztyčená poloha a posledních pár minut jsem musel jako správná televizní hvězda využít dubléra (protože jsem si zlomil ruku...) Love the video and another excellent bike build! I just finished building up an early 80s Picchio Special with aero tubing that I had repainted a candy red metallic. Stunning frame to which I installed a combination of 11-speed Campy Super Record controllers and rear derailleur in carbon with the rest of the components being silver 11-speed Athena Finsted off with a polished fluted NOS Campy seat post, black 3ttt stem & handlebar, and 9-speed Campy Record Titanium hubs with polished H Plus Sons Archetype rims. Gorgeous bike and rides beautifully. My previous build to this was an early 90s Zullo (fully restored) to which I added a full silver 11-speed Athena group and 10-speed Chorus hubs and the same HPS Archetype rims. These old frames wonderfully take to modern component groups. I have a garage shop/man cave and have your videos on a loop as I work on my bikes, LOL.

couldn't agree more about Chorus. i raced for many years with a Chorus groupset. very reliable and that counts for more than light weight when racing week in, week out

Krásná práce. To spojení nové komponenty a ocel má myslím do budoucna potenciál. Ono vlastně už v ocelových rámech není co vylepšovat. Byly doladěny k dokonalosti. Navíc pro hovoří spolehlivost, dlouhověkost, pohodlnost a váha taky není problém. Colnago to má stále v nabídce a je to dobře. Mnoho lidí se začíná vracet zpět k oceli.
Děkuji za velkou podporu, já jsem zjistil že na oceli mě netrnou ruce a rychlejší už stejně nebudu ani kdyby kolo vážilo tři kila. Navíc nová kola na kotoučích taky ztěžkla. Takže moje nové kolo bude železnej "Riči na 12s lankové Kampě a ráfkových brzdách".
@@OnRoadVintageBikes Přesně jak píšete. To pohodlí co ocel nabízí je až neskutečné. To brnění rukou mám vyzkoušené taky. Ono pokud je cesta méně kvalitní což je třeba úsek cyklostezka kolem Hustopeč a dále na Hostašovice tak tam je ocel opravdu nejlepší na čem člověk muže jet. 👍

Amazing prep work as usual, the cable sleeves to protect the BB was a great touch. Zero set back and a short stem are not the best aesthetics but as long as it meet the end users fit. ( An aero Campag or shimano post would be my choice for most vintage build - groupset dependent)

Uma das minhas reformas renovei uma Basso, fiquei sem ela pois erá 56 o tamanho e meu tamanho se é 52 se não ela estava comigo até hoje, mas tinha ficado linda e o novo dono adorou.
Como sempre perfeita e do modo que mais gosto de renovar os kit's de marcha e rodas.

Excellent NeoRetro build! Chorus 12 is nice choice. Considering a similar build with an old Daccordi frame I have. Hope your arm is Ok! Keep up the great vids!

Love the steel frame Basso from this era, but you rarely see them around. I picked up a 1983 "Gap" last summer and built it up in the classic style with Campy Super Record, 3T bar and stem, San Marco Concor Supercorsa saddle, and Record Pro Plus pedals. Always wanted to do a classic steel frame build like that and its a lovely thing! Having said that, I still very much enjoy a tasteful neo-retro build and the one that you present in this video is very classy as well. Interesting choices that you have made with the Chorus components and Elite bottle cages. I wonder what wheels those are and what pedals will you put on it?
Thanks for the great support and great comment. Basso frames from this era are pretty cool. I myself have Loto and Astra (see my videos). The wheels for this build were supplied by the owner and are Novatec hubs and aluminum unmarked rims. For my new Ritchey Logic bike, I happen to have similar wheels with Novatec hubs/Javax Alu rims and Dt spokes.The bike owner puts the pedals on himself, I ride Look because Look is the basis of clipless pedals.
Jak na tato kola nasadit kazetu Campa 12x? Jaké tělo volnoběžky používáte?
Ořech Campa je stejný od 9-12 rychlosti. Pouze nove 12 k elektrice a 13 je na nový typ ořechu N3W

That groupset totally ruined the classic lines of the frame more suited to the modern lumps of carbon

The combination of a vintage road bike with a modern groupset should be celebrated and no way ruins one or the other. It shows that even a simple frame can be adapted and enhanced with modern design.
I think that the crank of that Chorus set is too clumsy even for a modern bike, Campagnolo should offer a more elegant option... the Centaur 11 speed in silver was nice !
