- Just as each new Periphery release seems to turn progressive metal
around another 180 degrees, Jake Bowen, the source of the band’s rich tapestry of guitar-based ambient soundscapes, has also moved the boundaries of guitar design and performance with his new Ibanez
signature instrument-the JBM10FX.

After hearing/seeing Mark play it a hundred times, it's really interesting to see Jake's way of playing Prayer Position and his harmonies, his "side of the story" so to speak.
Yeah i didn't even realise the octave lead part at the end was even in the song. I feel like jake is kinda being left out of the mix after hearing that tbh
Ehhh sounds the same lol
Jake writes the shiftiest riffs
Unpopular opinion: I like the way it looks, and the demo sounded just fine
You are right
@@Pre1ful the bass is pretty loud in this video about a guitar lol.
I think they mixed it so it only "highlighted" the bass and this guitar, one of three, so it sounds louder. I do agree it hides jake a little.
@@dumithegreat3892 it’s also a big part of periphery’s sound
Yall are crazy. That Jatoba fretboard sold me on this guitar
What's special about it? Looks like shit
@@metalheadblues personally I think the orangish color of it really brings together the white and gold tones. Much better than a plain black ebony one imo
Don't fall for the tonewood nonsense.
Devon Nyers I have this guitar, the jatoba board is really smooth and hard. Feels awesome.
I have the JBM27 and the Jatoba fretboard looks better than any of my other guitars with Ebony
That's natural binding is so eye catching and makes this guitar look classy AF
YES! finally a hard tail jbm, exactly what i wanted
I would have loved the Black color to still be available though.
His playing is so smooth. Ibanez family forever!
I love the new Dingwall bass sound of your new signature guitar :D nollynollynolly
Just bought this today. Fantastic guitar!
It's gorgeous bro. The reverse headstock RG is always a classic choice.
i already test this guitar at the local store, such a BEAST!
Awesome guitar, congrats. Ibanez has been crushing it lately, this guitar looks and sounds great.
I love it. Congrats Jake. An Ibanez that I can play right outa the box.
You're all hating. Looks great and sounds great.
I hope this is at NAMM I'd like to try it out
thall
Crazy how Ibanez was able to keep a lot of good quality specs whilst Misha's Jackson affordable model is arguably less in quality (of course can't expect Bareknuckle pickups in an affordable model)
That white black & gold combo looks clean af.
Looooove that the volume knob is no where near my fingers so I don’t constantly turn it down by accident
Please release a version with a matte black finish
may by one just because of the fretboard wood/binding combination! looks incredible imo!
Yeah, this checks all the boxes for me. I'm gonna go buy one.
Did you buy one and if you did how do you like it?
@IcarusNadir, I just ordered this one from Sweetwater. They always sell out of them. I'm glad I grabbed one, finally. Can't wait to get it!
Did you end up with this one too?
Spec'd well, reverse headstock, white, sounds good and doesn't cost that much. I dig it. Ibanez forever!
Why I love so much "Prayer Position?
Edit: Cause its PERFECT!
I own this guitar and upgraded it with an Evertune bridge, such a badass axe
I’m just about to buy one… are you still happy? I heard the titan pups are not very versatile? Any advice? Would greatly appreciate!
@@alee7275the guitar kicks ass and the titans are ridiculous. Don’t listen to any detractors
@@Justynbrodsky123 already bought. And I totally agree with you.
An ebony fretboard would look much cleaner. But this is still pretty cool
the jatoba blends nicely with the golden elements, and it is an uncommon wood for a fretboard.
kodiak wild it’s starting to pop up everywhere. Tons of companies are starting to use, you know cus of the rosewood ban stuff lol
Price point.
Can always stain the fretboard black if you want. I have done it on a few guitars and it works really well on getting the look of ebony.
@@TheCrumpers53 ban on rosewood?? oy vay 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏾♂️
Any happy campers still with this guitar? I found a second hand one I’m about to buy but I’ve great that the titan pickups make it not very versatile. Dient/Chugg specific setup. For that money I would want a little bit of diversity. Any tips would we great!
Might have to pick this one up, been looking for something alongside my RGD at a similar price point.
This dude can play!
Personally, all I need from a guitar is perfectly available in this guitar 😍
tell me it's coming a 7 string version too with that stoptail bridge.
please
I absolutely love mine ! Thanks for designing it !☠️☠️☠️🖖🏼
1:36 tutorial on how to stroke yourself in odd meter
😂😂
🍌 🍌 🍌 🍌
Yay I like this new bridge way better
Of all the "affordable" versions of Mark, Misha, and Jake Periphery sigs, this is easily the highest spec'd one. It has the Dimarzio Titan pickups, a genuine, thick maple cap with the natural binding, and Gotoh locking tuners - literally the only thing that needs to be modded at purchase is replacing the cheap plastic nut, but all the affordable Periphery sigs have plastic nuts, and that's a $10-20 fix, tops. Personally I might also swap the gibralter bridge with a hipshot ibby bridge, but that's to taste.
Help ....What songs are you playing in this video?
Alright Jake, calm down mate, I'll buy one already...
1:40 jake stroking his wood
Does the JBM27 now have a jatobah fretboard as well?
I love the looks of this guitar, love the RGA shape RGD scale combo but the black and gold hardware puts me off. Why not just black or just gold? Basically only the bridge is black for some reason
Probably because they just have so many of those black bridges in stock they just want to use them. Typically I find when looking at Bridges to buy by themselves, the Gold Hardware ones are always more expensive anyway. Even though it doesn't look that great it serves a purpose I guess.
This is made in indonesia?
Gold hardware except for the bridge and volume knob. WTF?!?
That's how all of Jake's guitars have been.
It's his signature.
I don't know..looks good actually and color-ballanced. Could be much cooler with ebony fingerboard.
I rate it
@@dbo4506 What do you rate it?
I have the RGD 61ALET, it quickly became my go too guitar.
Been eyballing Jakes sigs for awhile.
I almost bought his 6 string Floyd Rose model, but I'm glad I held out for the Gibraltar bridge!
I had a Jackson Juggernaut HT-6 Pro and sold it. I wish i hadn't 😢 so, this replaces that.
I also had Marks PRS, it was just okay.
But, I have always loved Ibanez for their attention to detail and support for the customers.
Their guitars are usually great out of the box, requiring very little in the way of set up. And once you've got an ibby that is running in tip top shape...well.... you just can't beat em for the price.
Holy god, 0:23 is so amazing
I’ve noticed that many of the recent Ibanez guitars now have the nyatoh body wood instead of mahogany from prior years. Is that a bad thing, or not much difference like the jatoba and rosewood?
What I mean tone wood wise is it good, and would it be rugged and will last a long time
nyatoh is a kind of mahogany. It's just about names
Man gotta get me one of those!
How much would this retail for?
Jake. The goat.
Baritone guitar?????
Dude who went overboard on the editing effects?
And who gave that the ok?
I love it
Damn looks beautiful
FIXED BRIDGE VERSION OF TITAN! YES! IBANEZ DOES LISTEN! SALUTE!!!
It's So Cool
Awesome
Made in Indonesia ? Uwooww
Yeah that's cool, but imagine this in a 7 string version (fixed bridge) same color and woods except for the fretboard in BIRDSEYE MAPLE.
Who'd have ever thought a song like "Prayer Position" makes for good presentation music?
How mush?
Yeah, but does it Djent?
Pickups are very tight, but not very hot as they describe them, also i expected the neck to be thinner and it's kind of chunky...
how your tunning?
AGCFAD, the Periphery and Mastodon "drop A"
Looks all good but... does it djent? 😉
Any idea what’s the body shape?
RGD
RGA actually
Shame about the Jatoba fretboard- if it’s anything like the numerous (admittedly cheap) rga’s I’ve played in various guitar shops it’s going to feel super dry!
On that note-
Anyone got an Ibanez with a jatoba fretboard? Really interested if these just need lemon oiling frequently/some tlc or if they do just feel like sandpaper all the time?
Feels pretty good, I'm used to playing ebony and I can't say that Jatoba "gets in the way" whatsoever
Awesome👍👌🎸
Anyone know the tuning on this one?
AGCFAD
Damn I love Ibanez but they have a really bad habit of putting ugly brown fretboards that don’t match very well
Toby K. Agreed.
If they put ebony on it would be pointless to spend another 1000 for the mij one..
@@flyingmanforfun I wouldnt mind a richlite fretboard for a cheaper model
I love it 🤷🏻♂️
Thats true
I always wanted to get into BTBAM, Converge and Periphery. Where do I start lads?
Did you ever get started? I can help ya out if ya hadnt yet lol
A lot of solo guitarist have been switching from Ibanez and going to kiesel
Lots of bass players too, kiesel are 👌
Made in Indonesia yes. my country
Well sir, your country makes great instruments.
Ilian Petit thank you.
You are perfect!
Lets not forget that Petrucci is this mans uncle. If you chat shit about Bowen, Prog-Metal Santa will hunt you down.
I love my dimarzio titans that i put in my 7 string ibanez cuz i could afford a jake bowen sig but hopefully this newer one falls below the 1000 dollar mark
This guitar is cute☹🖤
Why doesn't this have more inlays? For a beginner/intermediate, that's crucial.
“‘More affordable”? 999 isn’t really all that affordable. So don’t act like it’s a more budget friendly option. If this was 500-700 you’d have me sold though.
Please make a Japanese hardtail version!! :D :D :D
No tone control :-'( ... Infinite sadness ...
Why is there no tone pot on every new metal Ibanez guitars ...
Becouse they tweak it from the amp / what ever they are using to FOH.
Who needs tone controls for anything aways...
Most the guitars i own iv taken out the tone and moved the vol in to it's position just so the vol wasnt in my way.
Tone controls were maybe useful 50 years ago. If you need one, you have the wrong pickups to begin with.
I think you have your answer brother....tone knobs are more or less irrelevant....even myself....Ive never honestly used the tone knob, even with all of the guitars ive used over the years that had tone knobs. They were always turned up to 10 ....just my 2 cents
@@roberthaskin1723 Sure, but I still don't get why so many guitar players don't use tone knobs ... I'm tweaking mine all the time, even many times in only one song. I don't want my sound to be sparkly bright all the time ! Turning it down a bit adds very interesting warmness and deep bass ...
Plastic nut...? They could’ve have spent the 20 cents or whatever more for some kind of graphite material?
the beauty of the fiery blond \m/ (=
nice, MADE IN INDONESIA :)
AND I ewww
The fretboard is too dry i think..
You'll add the moisture as you play ;)
Moist
Such a missed opportunity with the woods used, a mahogany/ebony combo would have had all of my money.
The older version was Floyd equipped, had rosewood and mahogany, and this one is the same price??? Cmon Ibanez
Ibanez JBM27 and 20 had the same fretboard wood (Jatoba not rosewood).
Juny1spion actually this is $1000 where as the 6 string Floyd was $1200 and the 7 is $1400
Logan Abbott ok, I was not aware of the price change.
@@loganend8185 ok so in that case it's actually even better bang for the buck
I don't know, but I think it's just a matter of time for his uncle introduce him to a guy named Sterling Ball... Just saying
Why demo a guitar with that kind of mix. Shouldve been a bass video
1:40
"STOP IT" 😨
The yellow pickups are a turn off
I love how Jake.Bowen Play, but i dont like the fretboard color/wood ,maybe bird eye maple will looks more pretty
Damn that's a confused looking guitar but good for you doing your thing.
I'm not really sold because you can give Jake a potato and he'll make it sound good
Looks like a fry egg but sounds awesome
😂
You dont bring any lower budget Indonesian models on stage, who do you think youre fooling?
During the Periphery premiere guitar rig rundown, Jake showed 2 indo models and mentioned that he uses them on stage. See 38:48 here ruclips.net/video/fhKo-JURY6w/видео.html
Not sure about Jake, but Mark did actually use his PRS SE live among the US-made models
@@theliberation9061 yeah, the only reason he still plays some of the USA ones live is because he hasn't released a 7 string SE version yet. If he could play with onle SEs, he would
They use their cheaper models it’s just they upgrade all the components to their USA counterparts.
Cheaper models do not - ideally and typically - compromise on quality. Only in cosmetics. That means gold hardware, etc. As long as pickups are the same, it will sound the same.
It's only marginally cheaper. Instead of 1300 you're only paying 1000.
The JBM100 is over $2000. The JBM27 is the one that's $1400
$1000 for an Indonesian made instrument is straight up bonkers idc what the headstock says or whose signature model it is
@@5urg3x the Ibanez iron label series is Indonesian made, runs over a grand and play great
@@Justynbrodsky123 That was three years ago. Inflation sucks. I have no doubt that by 2025 these indo guitars will be going for 2 grand.
Still don't understand why people think gold is classy or beautiful. Please stop.
The JBMs are the only guitars I like with gold hardware.
Chromatic Progress because it is.
Lotta salty seven string snobs in the comments lol I personally thought the demo sounded great and I can’t wait to check one out in stores.
Does it Djent? Why yes, yes it does
Any chance can bass guitar come down in the mix? Christ.....
ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT THERE IS TOO MUCH NOLLY IN THIS, IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO IMPLY ?!
Seems like a guitar that they got bored of creating half way thru.
I love that poop brown fretboard /s would it have killed you guys to have dyed it black
"Affordable" = 999??
Like, yeah it's cheaper, but I am far from calling that affordable. Kinda like how Sterling by Music Man prices their Majesty a little under 1000. It's still pretty unattainable.
It goes without saying that it is a sick guitar
Jackson Schott affordable relative to what Prestige and J Custom cost.
For what you get 999 is pretty good. Could be worse, look at Misha's signature model.
1. Buy an Rga42. (350 bucks)
2. Put your fave pickups,a new nut (even new saddles if you're a stupidly perfectionist like me) and Kiesel Locking Tuners (300-350 bucks if you get sbdy to do it for you)
3. Profit.
Not even something from the new album
