Great stuff! I add one more step. I visualize the talk going well. I create the positive vibes of an amazing talk- even visualizing interruptions- just like an athlete visualizes a competition.
Great tip, Jim. I'll be talking about visualizing in my video for next week. That video is about behavioral tips for over coming speaking anxiety. Visualization is a huge part of that.
Hey coach just watched this video again and I actually got more out of it. Today I was at a church it was a really hard day. I just recently started going there and yesterday One of the founding members was in a tragic farming accident and Lost his life. I had something to say that was in my heart. I tried to organize my thoughts before I stood up. The message brought some comfort to them. But I realized it was all over the place. I got all of what I wanted to say. This video I believe will help me in the future with organizing my thoughts on the fly. Thanks coach 😊

As usual you give some great coaching tips and sound advice. I use Plan Prepare Practice Present as my focus when preparing a presentation, same idea using the Who Why What Where When questions to help flesh out my ideas, content and running order. Cant agree more with the amount of practice you do, many people do not realise the preparation that goes into a 'smooth presentation'. Cheers

Amazing good job!!! I am a sophomore student and I see I have talent in presentation, public speaking. Each time when I have a presentation at uni, I feel omg it is so amazing. I wanna share my own experience, my stories and hep my audiences understand deeply about problems which talking about. But I never spend time to practice before the presentation, but yesterday I had just found your RUclips channel, and I think it is so amazing; after watching some videos I think if more I practice, the more I am better. This video was really fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to make it and sharing it. I'm collecting videos about presentations to help my students, and I just have one question though. After which step would you include slide preparation? Most of my students give talks where slides are mandatory. Thank you!
Hi, Hellen. Thanks for your positive feedback. I'd say Step 4 is where I would personally make my first draft of my visual aids. That's where you'd make sure your ideas are organized into main points with an intro, body, and conclusion. I personally almost always edit my visual aids/slides up through the last couple of times practice and rehearse because I keep making changes and improvements.

Dear Alex, thank you, for the shared know-how. I'm not an aspiring public speaker. But, as a non-native English, I go for improvement in my communication skills 'cause 90% of my daily interaction (clients) is in English.
The question that bothers me since I was a child is: does one need a certain memory capacity for public speaking? I found it as a big obstacle for me at a younger age. The memorizing speech was nerve-wracking. Or does practice and repetition take a big percentage in this?
Why it was difficult for me... I'm a spontaneous and organic player. so I thought I'm not "natural" if I practice memorizing something I have to deliver in a native way. Now I realize that the trick is actually in practicing X times to become better + more confident.

I don't recommend attempting to memorize in a word-for-word way. I recommend using an outline of notes so you don't have to be concerned about forgetting but don't read them or try to say it the exact same way each time. I use words like _internalize_ , _learn_ , and _have a command of_ the presentation content. That allows to both really know your stuff and also be adaptive and natural.
