olive oil along with about 60-120 seconds of gentle rubbing it with either a thumb or finger nail breaks down and gets the sticky residue off items. DO NOT USE ON ANYTHING THAT WILL ABSORB THE OIL LIKE DRY, uncoated cardboards. Works best on glassware, figurines, coffee mugs, plastics and coated sealed cardboard. Do not let it sit on any of the cardboard materials but on stubborn, older residue on glass you can let it sit and repeat a few times.

Justin - I was hesitant to do promoted listings as most of my stuff is in the vintage/one of a kind category. My perception of promoted listings is it really only helps sellers that are trying to sell the same things as others. But I decided to do a test and take your advice. I did the 2% promoted listings - 10 SALES in 4 days in addition to my regular sales - also my views and clicks are way up. I am only 4 days in so I can't wait to see what happens for the whole month of APRIL - THANKS SO MUCH

P.S. I primarily sell clothes, mostly "bread and butter" brands, hence I've got lots of competition. I've tried promoting most at 2%, and a few dozen at 5%. My sales at 5% have been almost non-existent; yet most of my items ARE selling at 2% promoted. I hope sharing what I've learned might help someone else.

I think shipping is tough for new sellers because they don’t know about the cost break points. The prices change at 4oz, 8oz, 12oz, 1lb, 2lb, and by the pound after that (shipping USPS). You can roughly estimate the more you practice and get a feel for how much weight your packing materials and box will add. There are also break points for the dimensions of a package, with longer items (I think over 24in) getting a big up-charge when using USPS.

    • @BlueWater-zk2qc

I wish I knew. I use to play around in the eBay app changing the dimensions and seeing what it did to the cost of shipping. Also, don’t be afraid to use the other shipping services like UPS and FedEx. Those services will save you tons of money on shipping larger and longer items.

Great video as always! Here’s a couple of extra tips: FedEx Home Delivery is usually the cheapest when it comes to very large boxes (like China sets, bulk LEGO lots, etc) It can vary but it is usually the case when the dimensions of a box are larger. Also, keywords are super important under the Item Specifics & will help your item’s placement in the search results. This applies to the “Recommended” item specifics, not the “Additional” Item Specifics. This “hack” maybe better than even promoted listings. When your keywords are in the title, description AND the recommended item specifics, your listing will do even better in the search results. It will take 24 hrs for a revised item to update if you want to test this. Put important keywords under “Style” and/or “Occasion” as an example. Haven’t we all seen some listings show before a “sponsored” aka promoted listing? This is why.

I mainly buy old records at thrifts, and those stickers are the bane of my existence. Many a valuable album can be devalued from cover damage caused by removing stickers. The best method I know of is to rub lighter fluid on the sticker with a Q-tip until it pops off. It often still leaves a "ghost" rectangle on the cover, though.

How much work is it to bring existing listing info into it or can you just start using it with current listings and let old ones not included sell through? Very interested in using it, but concerned with the amount of effort it might require at the beginning. Also, if you do a video please take your time in explaining. Thanks for answering my question! I'm going to get one of those tools now, and plenty of rubbing alcohol left over from the pandemic 🤗

  • @Aaramlias
    @Aaramlias 6 месяцев назад +2

To remove stickers I usually start with wiping it down with a damp cloth as long as it's not going to damage the item, then I remove the sticker scum with rubbing alcohol, and when that fails, if it's safe to use it, i'll use gu-gone. Then I wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to remove the residue from it. I then wipe it down with the damp cloth to clean it the rest of the way. Some items I can't use any of those to remove the sticker like some of my comics that I had to remove stickers from. It ruined the comic when I tried removing it so I just donated it to thrift store since it wasn't worth selling it on Ebay anymore. I paid a bit under 50 cents each for about 40 comics so I not a big deal.
Sometimes it's easier for DVD cases just to replace the case with a better case from a dvd that has a badly damaged cd. For and cd based videogames the same.
When it comes to offers I make sure that I can make money off the items before I set my prices and I assume that offers are going to be be made. Some items I don't make anything or very little off of but it's more to get rid of those items and make at least something on them.

Cyndi - you’re overthinking!! I did too before I started eBay selling. Took me years to gear up. It’s not that hard, I promise!! My first listings took me forever bc I wanted them perfect. Forget that! If you don’t know all the item specifics, skip them.
      • BUY A POSTAL SCALE! Shipping was the hardest part for me. I made mistakes in the beginning by under-estimating weight. When I spent $20 on a scale I improved immediately.
      • Take clean, simple photos without clutter around. I use my iPhone. I bought foam boards from Dollar Tree to make a white background. Easy peasy! A year and a half later I finally bought a $20 tabletop tripod this month.
      • Pick one item to list. Don’t overthink! I started by “shopping” my house for items I thought would sell. I listed 20 items before I realized it.
      • When you make that first sale you’ll be hooked! Especially if, like me, you just start picking up stuff from your home. I’ll bet there’s a ton of your mom’s household items that people are looking for! Mid-century is still a hot market.
      • Lastly, as someone told me: Don’t let fear steal your blessing.
      Good luck and start listing!!!

I have a theory about the algorthm would like to hear you insight/opinion. Do you ever use your "Spendable funds" to buy things on ebay? I seem to notice a spike in sales when i use my spendable funds to buy stuff I need/want. The spike in sales seems so dramatic to me that I will intnetionally use those funds to buy something as opposed to other payment methods. Hsve you experienced this or simiar? If not give it a try. Seems to boost my sales even during periords where I am not listing for the week.

I primarily sell video games and decided to stop promoting everything because the items are very specific and being searched constantly. I'm not sure it has worsened my position. Do you think this is good practice? I can see promoting more generic and less specific items.

I’ve heard you say that your wife does shipping and you source. Who takes the photos and lists? Who looks at comps to determine prices?

    Woodstock Chimes website:
The Chimes of Mars is named for the mysterious "red planet". Named after the Roman god of war, Mars is the 4th planet from the sun. Its nickname comes from the iron oxide that is so prevalent on its surface, which gives it a reddish appearance. This chime is designed and handcrafted for superior musical performance. It is hand-tuned to a universal, pentatonic (five-note) scale and acts in concert with the wind to create random patterns of wonderful sound.

I do 2.1 percent promo and price high to send offers, 2.1 will beat out all the people doing the minimum and is negligible

Have you seen a meaningful difference with 2.1 vs. just 2 %?

@@BlueWater-zk2qc I've not done 2% but if promoted works like eBay says it does I should beat people doing 2. And it's an extra ten cents for every hundred dollars so it's negligible

I just started selling. My first month in I calculated mine at 43%. I only sold 12 items. Need to get my listings up. Working on my sourcing. Your advice has been helpful and motivating. I work full time and this is a side thing for now. Fun project for my 10 yr old to learn about business with me.

I have an even faster way to identify American Girl or Pleasant Company (the original name). They all show their teeth. The only doll that doesn't is Kaya (because it is a sign of aggression in her culture). Other generic dolls don't. No more hair pulling 😂

If there is no or little competition on the product your selling then why promote it? Your just giving away more money to ebay. I rarely use promoted listings and my sales are fine.

I do 2% on my listings. Started a new store & out of the first 10 orders, 6 were from promoted listings.
