Heard this in Birmingham, $3,000,000 sound system, and the band was at the end of their tour. Rocked the house. I've been listening to a lot of versions trying to find one that I can show people, to give them an idea of why I was so impressed. The way they bring it down and then just jump back into the groove! (Around the 7-8 minute mark) I don't know ho many times they used that technique, but it was absolutely marvelous live. Bought 1 of each CD, and the signed vinyl out of appreciation. I probably dropped 1 1/2 - 2 days pay at the show not even counting what the tickets cost. Money well spent!
Stunning guitar solo, but I am not sure I'll ever fully recover from the violin solo. Last time I felt that much from a violin it was in Stephan Grappeli's hands.

The only other cover of this tune is Holly Cole's smokey ambient version on her Tom Waits cover album. The fact that his songs have so many great interpretations is proof of his amazing songwriting skill.
Some of her alltime best work not just as being the unbelievable Diana Krall but integrating with a talented and ground breaking ensemble and breaking down all of those banners - the Vaudevillian at the end is really priceless. G

What Beefhart sprung from and where Waits took it and what those since have done with it has yet to be given specific genre name, or sub genre, it will get one. Anyone lucky enough to see a production of 'the Black Rider' ?.... this takes me back.

Funny, everyone in the comments losing their mind over the guitar. Must have never actually listened to much Tom Waits. This guitarist is doing his best to channel Marc Ribot (one of Tom’s regular guitarist collaborators), and he’s doing an okay job of it, but jeez, if you’re that blown away by this you should really check out the guy he’s imitating. You know I don’t know a lot of truth from lies on this pad but they tell me your face is damaged and you wear a mask. If that is true it is O.K. Yes I was pulled to you initially because of certain things about your looks…I pointed that out to you. But it doesn’t Matter, it would be just one more issue to be resolved. I don’t really believe it because if it were true and cloning is possible they could just fix you. Think it’s just another way to try and turn me against you..like all the rest. I think they are afraid you will get me help. I know I tell you a lot ..I have no one else..I guess I hope you can find help..if you can’t don’t worry..at least I get it off my mind. When I was on fire yesterday..that is what happens to me when they spray stuff on me. That would have been Thursday nite. It really bothered my legs when they were spraying all nite several days a week. I told Annie almost each time so she knew. When I tell them now my body vibrates the say I am upgrading..the real reason is to much poison sprayed on me for a couple years..in my food for many year#..and in the car with chemicals sprayed in car( maybe thru exhaust when parked don’t know how they did that) or car chemicals like Freon thru the heater cord in the van. I believe they will kill me slowly as is happening or quickly. I worry about you and yours..maybe be sure others know..safety in numbers😕😭💟
