This is a good fair review. With Sam being able to see that it is for more maybe casual board game players who want a cool Fantasy Themed game but don't want it to take 5 hours or have to learn a thousand rules.

I said this during the unboxing, but 2 or 3 of the minis are the same as the from Nightvault's core box, they just have a different color scheme.

3 actually. And the OTHER 3 are the exact models from a different team of Stormcast from another season of Underworlds

Can you SHARE the quest tokens? You didnt mention HOW COOP works. If 1 player gets 6 quest tokens, another gets 1, isnt that moot since it is COOP? If this isnt correct then please explain how coop works!

Um. Each player rolls 1d6 at the top of their own Questing Phase for their turn and then has that amount of actions available for their own turn

Did you see the Third Shadespire game?

Not sure it would work well for people coming from models based wargaming. They are used to a complex ruleset and the simplicity here seems like it would be a negative for those folks.

Hello and thank you for this review. Since you seem to be very knowledgeable on board games so perhaps you could recommend a board game for my friends and I?
    Players: 2 - 6
    Genre: Fantasy or Post apocalyptic.
    Style:
Cooperative with at least some elements of combat strategy.
Some level of character development that persists. (if this even exists in board games)
Complexity: Medium. (I am a gamer so in-depth game play is my bread and butter but my friends are not so something not too insanely complicated)
    I thank you in advance.

I like the fact this is simple and easy to learn BUT I looked at the manual and it looks daunting. If this is THAT simple, why is the manual so full of text and the cards... LOTS of text. Are they ALL CLEARLY written? I may get this. I'd solo this.

Sam: Thanks for the review. I think the essential thought here is that "gamers" would find this offering a bit too basic. When you mentioned that there would be some gluing and construction... I was out. Recently, I recieved my John Carter of Mars mini's and there was gluing and construction there too.... I'm not patient enough for that. Keep up the good work... I love the passion you have for your gaming.

Sam, you produced this review four years ago so this might be an unfair question after all this time. I’m curious about whether this is a game of skill. Can you remember this game and give me a feeling for whether you felt you had to make interesting decisions in the game, the sort of thing where as you play the game more you get better at it. Thanks.. -Toby

I'm not sure why roll and move still exists in 2019

@@protiertabletop9788 Preferring a modern approach to choice of movement and taking actions is not "fear of randomness" or "being incapable of dealing with luck". It is just a preference for modern conventions of game design. Whether or not that's better is subjective, but evolution of game mechanisms is generally a positive thing. I know for a fact that any game that uses roll and move will never hit my table. Ever.

@@protiertabletop9788 being able to adapt and overcome is one of my favorite things in board games. However, roll and move is completely lazy game design and devoid of skill. I like dice and randomness when done properly. Event cards, king of Tokyo, etc. Imagine if tokaido, for example, had roll and move instead of choosing.

My friends and I actually came up with some house rules to this, one of the ideas that seemed to work out well was to just give everyone 3 quest points at the start of their turn, no dice involved. Then, if they wanted to, they could spend one hero point and roll the dice to get more quest points. We decided on a roll -1, thus giving a chance for a bad roll rewarding no further quest points, or a good roll giving 5. This simple rule is very adjustable too depending on how difficult you want to make it, either give a -2 or more to the roll, or switch the d6 to a d4.
The game IS a little on the simple side, but that's okay, it can allow for creative flexibility. At the end of the day, it's a game. As long as you're all having fun, you can't play "wrong".

This confirms my belief that this is an awful game. Maybe good for non-gamers.

Its COOP! If one player rolls 1, other gets 6, the need to COOP is even greater. Regarding difficulty... its for ages 8+ dude!
