To me it looks like a worker placement Galaxy Trucker, in the sense that you use WP to make your fighters and spend considerable time to see how it goes/score.
Tell your friend he did an *amazing* job! I don't think Sam understands just how much of an actual fighting tournament really *is* "accounting." I really appreciate all the thought that went into it. A "move" that allows you to manipulate tournament brackets? Genius! In real fighting game tourneys that "move" can only be done by winning a *previous* tournament and then by putting that tourneys trophy on the line! Sam did a great job of explaining the mechanisms and presenting your friends game. I'll be picking this up as soon as I can. I'm in love! :)
It's a hybrid game for sure Sam. It isn't a game I enjoy. I've tried it enough times. Felt like there wasn't enough options for worker placement. Felt like the fights were too random. Saw battles with 9 dice verses 4 dice and two special abilities. And the special abilities overwhelmed the nine dice. That was a fighter whom didn't have the ability to have Ki. So he just couldn't win.
It's an "Or Not" Game. Cool Mini or Not. In order to do mini's, they would have had to make all 32 Characters into individual sculpts. Which would have added a lot of cost onto a game that already wasn't worth the cost. 32 character sculpts at 2 dollars a piece would make a 69 game into a 119 game. And they don't add much. Other than visual appeal. (4 Sensei's, 4 primary students, 12 first round characters, 12 second round characters) So I think they made the right move on this game by not messing with miniatures.
The fights seem to be the most boring part of the game. From this video I get the impression that you roll dice and the more symbols you roll, the bigger your chances are to win. Meh. But the character art is gorgeous so this is a positive.
First I was a little confused but I understand that this is the CMON reprint of the original ruclips.net/video/AvHTaE8PQhQ/видео.html Is there any relevant change despite the artwork? I didn't played my copy of the older game for a while and was not able to determine it thoroughly.
All that rolling of dice could have been simplified and made more elegant if the end result is basically 2 to 1, or 3 to 2 or whatever. Seems to be overly complicated without making it more interesting or thoughtful. Fighting should be quick.
Another really great explanation Sam! Yeah, I had to give it a couple of gos, but I think I've got the basics! I really like the theme of course but what would be even better was if they had made a game like this (since they were obviously going for the street fighter thing anyway) about professional fighting game players! They could have even used real people, there are many parts to mastering fighting games and the FGC is a pretty silly place (but fun!) and "gamer houses" among sponsors like Eric Fox, Red Bull, Panda Global, RISE Nation, EG, and others would have not only been interesting but also probably provided some actual sponsorship for the game and publicity for those players and sponsors. Instead of "Going on a long journey" Your fighters could travel to meet the sage of SoCal (Also known as Alex Valle.) Or take the more spiritual path of studying "Defense without Defense" (Also known as going over to Justin Wong's house.) The fighters wouldn't have to be made up they could be *real, interesting* people like Punk (Yeah there's actually a guy named Punk but he's really a nice kid. 0.0 Uh, *never* tell him I said that!) Tokido, K-BRAD, Daigo (who donated $60,000 of his winnings to a *school.)* Xian, Ricki Ortiz, F-Champ, Dogura, Itazan, Snake Eyes, Alex Meyers, the list is huge, diverse, and represents many styles and interpretations of the best tactics. The disciplines that you level up could have been Muscle Memory, Frame Data, Match Ups, and Game, Opponent and tournament knowledge. It would have made the game more personal and given it a huge market (the entirety of the FGC!) Those are the people who are probably going to appreciate this game the most, in spite of it being one of CMONs most interesting entries in my opinion. Just instead of going for a classical Martial Arts theme (C'mon uh, CMON *No one* believes that fighters live in dojos with their Sensei. However, fighting gamers *do* live in gamer houses to facilitate team building and training!) Not to mention it would put CMON in a hand shake mode with CAPCOM and that could lead to some great Miniatures games by opening up licensing. You want your next multi-million dollar kickstarter? Repeat after me: Monster Hunter, the board game. The possibilities could be endless and I think a board game about real people would be great! It also brings the board game market closer to the massive market of video gamers which is a much more young and populous demographic. As is, I'll enjoy this game a lot if only to see the looks on people's faces at game night when I suggest "worker placement!" Yeah, once they see the name and that combo of Laura and Fei Long on the cover they'll get it but I'll have em' goin' for a sec. By the way going for the SFIV "Ink Splash" style was a *really* good design choice. Very evocative of Street Fighter since the characters still use that style even now. Again, great job by everybody but I still think CMON should make that other version. It would be hilarious and probably sell better. :D
interesting game with a fun concept but the names are terrible and the game board is rly ugly, the art could easily be redone and the game would improve significantly
Thank you for the rating out of 10! I like when you guys include that in the videos.

I am friend with Roberto Pestrin. This is a high quality game, go for it!

Hi,thanks for the video, but it’s still over my head, could you do a super dumbed down how to video? Or written instructions? The rule book baffles me
Hi Sam. You didn't mention the solo mode. How is it? Is it worthy?
Hasn't this game already been reviewed?? But with different Graphics??
What Tom reviewed previously was the original edition before it was licensed to CMON and revamped.

Why did they not make miniatures for your workers in this game? The tokens seem like a big step back in production quality for CMON.
Jaime Lannister or not.

Maybe buy this game and make a board/video-game hybrid, replace the fights with a video fighting game :)
great video
You got the symbols wrong. Check the manual.

I kinda like the old version more from the graphics which were more comic funny and had several puns
