      Pump it into a balloon and breathe it from there. The idea is that as soon as you become too stupid to hold the balloon, it flies off and you're breathing air again :)

    if n2o is water soluble will bubbling the gas through water destroy it. or what does it do?
    also if collected at temps below boiling point will it liquify at bottom of glass or is pressure necessary for liquefaction?

      Chris Nabry No action with water. Because, Nitrous oxide is a neutral oxide. Yes, Nitrous oxide can be liquified at 20 degree C by applying a pressure of 50 atmospheres.

    is there a way of make H2SO4 with zinc sulfate, magnesium sulfate, sodium sulfate and ammonium sulfate? not copper sulfate

      Well, yes and no. As we all know, sulphuric aicd is a very strong acid. To displace it from its salts (sulfates and bisulfates), the acid we use for displacement must be stronger than sulphuric acid. Of course, there are acids which are even stronger than sulphuric acid (very powerful oxidizing agents and reducing agents cannot be used for displacement even if they are stronger than Sulphuric acid) But, most people do not have access to such acids since handling such acids require good fumehood and laboratory set up. Also, they are quite dangerous to manipulate with and expensive too. For example, Perchloric acid. Perchloric acid is stronger than sulphuric acid and an aggressive oxidizing agent. Hence, it reacts with many substances violently and forms explosive mixtures. Even organic substances such as paper catches fire when you drop it in concentrated Perchloric acid. So, we need to handle such acids with utmost care. Perchloric acid will explode on heating due to the liberation of Dichlorine heptoxide (anhydride of Perchloric acid). Hence, we normally go with some industrial routes for preparing Sulphuric acid. Having said that, there are some easy routes for preparing Sulphuric acid in decent concentration and they are economical too. I have listed a few below:
      1. By dissolving equal amounts of Nitric oxide and Nitrogen dioxide in strong Ammonium sulphate solution.
      2. By bubbling sulphur dioxide and Nitrogen dioxide in water.
      3. By bubbling sulphur dioxide through strong Hydrogen peroxide solution.
      4. By heating Dithionic acid (a little complex route)

    Ok method one ..... I thought you had to bubble the gas threw distilled water ? After heating the A.N. The fumes that come off are suppose to be passed threw water in order to create Nitrous oxide. ? I tried this and got nothing but an explosion 💥 so I’m not sure it’s worth it to try to make it at home

      AN decomposes into a mix of nitrogen oxides, including the bad ones. You pass it through water or an alkaline solution to absorb the higher oxides, only nitrous doesn't react with the solution. If it exploded, you heated it too much or you have bad AN. Make sure your salt is pure and use a hotplate with temperature control if you can!
      Edit: Oh and be safe. Don't heat more than 5g at a time, even if it means a lot of work. AN is no joke, it will tear your hand off if you talk smack to it. Consider disposable gas capsules for whipped cream, they're on amazon. Make sure they're not the CO2 variety :)

      Dennis W yes A.N is cool stuff but I am not going to try to get nitrous oxide from it any longer. The best way to go is to get the whipped cream charges and use them

      Yes, actually if you do it stoichiometrically (I've not done that in this video). 5 parts of SnCl2, 10 parts of HCl and 0.9 part of nitric acid and heating this mixture will produce nitrous oxide.

      Nitrate of any kind is hard to get, but easy to make if you have a lot of time. Use a neon transformer or the guts of a plasma globe to create a continuous arc, and pass air from the arc through a solution of lye. Check the pH using cheap litmus paper. After a few hours the pH will turn acidic and you'll have sodium nitrate and a bit of nitrite.

      pawan rajan Well, as I mentioned in my video, preparing it by warming a solution containing hydroxylammonium chloride and sodium nitrite is an effective route to prepare Nitrous oxide. But, one should wear gloves when handling hydroxylammonium chloride as it is highly toxic in nature. You can also obtain Nitrous oxide by treating sulfamic acid with Nitric acid. Both these methods almost produce pure gas and will be easy to demonstrate it to students. Hydroxylammonium chloride method works really well.But if the concentration of these solutions is high, it will produce higher oxides of nitrogen. So, this has to be done in dilute form in order to obtain pure gas.
