Absolutely picking this up. I sunk so many hours into MW3, and going from the perspective of fighting Smoke Jaguar to being Smoke Jaguar is surreal. Absolute favorite clan, Trent and Paul Moon are easily my favorite Jaguars. I even got the Smoke Jaguar tattooed on my left leg. So excited for this!
Forever Faithful is an awesome book
I soooo hope we will get to see Trent and or Paul moon, or at least referenced
I hope the music will be similar to MW2
I hope the dialogue choices are as follows : Choice A: be a traitor to the great fathers legacy and flinch at war crimes. B: Be a true smoke jaguar. orphanages are wasteful.
@@jasonames145 and then u go to the little world known as tukyied... :d
This is the clan annihilated by Task Force Serpent when the Inner Sphere got its shit together and made an example to the other Crusader Clans.
Smoked Jaguar🤣
The third reezy was wiped after WW2 but I'll still get down on some Hell Let Loose 🤷♂️
Twilight of the Clans: Sword and fire onwards tells the story of Task force serpent, very good series of novels.
After playing MWO for 10+ years, I just recently started getting into the lore a bit and even watched the 1994 cartoon and I gotta say there is some interesting stuff. Good videos man!
Read the clan invasion novels, you May enjoy MW5 Clans even more... And look up some old videos of Mechwarrior 2:31st century combat, the last clan-focused MW game, which had a lot of atmosphere and a great soundtrack, even with the much older graphics
@@MatteoB-gx1bo Thanks for the tip, but as a lore nerd I will probably try and start from the beginning and catch up to main events, knowing the lore behind each mech gives a whole new perspective to the franchise!
Pretty much all the lore and content is canon is some way, as one of the key features of the setting is that retcons aren't used. The 1994 cartoon is "non-canon" in the sense that those events didn't really happen in universe, however the cartoon's existence is canon in universe as a propaganda piece by one of the IS powers. In fact, the Star Colonel that was depicted stomped their mech up to the court to sue for defamation lol
The cartoon was epic! Star colonel Kristen Redman. What a character.
@@MatteoB-gx1boany novel recommendations?
This is just an opinion but I'd like to see piranha games focus on introducing vr headset support and improving HOTAS support for their mechwarrior series.
Fingers crossed its gonna be good, after a few mods MW5 is a ton of fun
It’s a shame they did not add the clan invasion in Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries, because it could add a lot of flavor make the game more interesting mid to late game. I played MW2 mercenaries back in the day and I did not know the lore. It was a huge surprise when the clan came and it was super cool. Suddenly you did not have the best mechs any more and a new hunt started to get the clan equipment and mechs. I go MW5 mercenaries including all DLC two months ago and I’m having a blast after 20 years brake from the franchise.
Thanks for taking the time to read the article!
Can't wait for some info on pilot progression skills etc and seeing the mech lab science lab
FINALLY SOME NEWS, I have not heard anything since they released the trailer video. Thank you so much for the update
Which trailer? There's a few out now, including character spotlights. They said expect more as they have a whole marketing campaign they're trying to pull a general audience in
@@Zathul4198just search the mw5 clans official channel. Type mech warrior 5 clans and look at the first video.
I can't say for the other games, but I have played the Mech 4 trio of games, and the way they describe you building up your honor and renown within the clan to get better mechs, almost feels like what you kinda do in the Mech 4 trio. Although you either get it through salvage, or in the other two games, through the shop, it still has that aesthetic of you building your way up to Assault Mechs. Thats a good homage to that mechanic as you get better at the game. I am definitely picking this up when it comes out.
I just hope clans has the same replayability as mw5 mercs
I'll be honest. That's probably not going to happen. It's a linear campaign and you'll just replay the same missions, maybe there will be some alternative paths you can make. What would be nice though is it the MW5 Mercs career though reflects the events after 3050 where you have to do contracts with the Clans being a factor now.
@@DigitalFulcrum what i would love is a way to implement the new mechs into mercs. Either through dlc or a free download with purchase of clans. I know its a whole new game but it would be awesome
Can’t wait for this. I actually loved the very limited story line of Mason and his father and him avenging his fathers death only to unravel more mystery.
I'm still hesitant with pre-ordering by the way Piranha handled MW5 Mercs.
Never preorder any game, in my opinion.
Agreed...its simply not worth the deal.
Especially when games today come as a digital copy .
The "extras" for pre order a game dont worth the price just to discover it's a broken game and they proved it in MW5 mercs.
And I enjoy way more playing MW2 MW3 and MW4
Yes, do not pre order as a rule. But it seems worth watching its career with great interest.
But one question remains: Do you dare refuse my Batchall?
"Refuse your *what?*" xD
@@kalibaba_vr6925these barbarians have no honour!
We got him to say the line.
Anyone who thinks the shooters Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 & Halo 3 ODST were “basic scenarios told largely through text” has clearly never played them and has absolutely no idea what they’re talking about. The game he’s thinking of is Mass Effect, where you can make choices that change the course of the game
I actually brought it up with the author on Twitter, it was an editing mistake where it meant to say "like MW5:Mercs" and not Halo.
I've dabbled in BattleTech games since forever, but I only learnt anything about the lore when I first played MechWarrior 5: Mercs and started wondering "hmm, where are all my favourite meches, like the Mad Cat and the Cougar". As such a more narrative driven Mech game is very appealing. Of course I doubt it'll reach the heights of MechAssault 2, but it's never too late to patch in a final boss in the biggest mech ever who you have to fight while the most noughties nu-metal ever blasts out.
Even as a fan who got his start in mech assault 2. I have to humbly disagree with you there MW4: vengeance is the better story
I love both personally. Although Mw2 will always hold a special place for me, being the first MW I ever played, I do tend to agree that MW4 had the best story as well. I grew up with and probably sunk the most hours into MW4. The intro still gives me chills.@@jarreddean2094
The one thing in Clans I want to see are.... Clan Elementals.
Over 1k hours in MW5: Mercs, I've greatly enjoyed learning the ins and outs of tweaking 'mech builds and commanding my mechwarriors on the battlefield, both in vanilla and modded. I can't wait to get into MW5: Clans and learn new systems and use new tools!
It definitely seems like Piranha took the feedback from Mercs and made something awesome. Ultimately, time will tell.
I have only one problem with Mech5 Clans. As far as I can tell it wont have any kind of sandbox, not at launch at least anyway. And that is the biggest draw for me. We had all the IS Mechs to play around with in Mercs. But without mods, we had no Clan mechs or Clan tech.
Ideally I would hope for PGI to release a "Career" sandbox Mode, that would have improvements over the proc-gen. stuff that Mercs had. It would arguably be an improvement now by virtue of new Lance/Star Commands and the Top Down control mode, they are introducing in Clans already.
Would also break from lore which they are clearly trying to stick to. A sandbox doesn’t mean better replay ability. A good story and ability to handle the same situation but in multiple different ways creates its own replay ability. Add on DLC could be other clans invasion corridors.
@@luigi2396 Replayability is a very player-centric detail. I have seen people jump into games that give them a solid story and tons of different ways to tackle the same fights and end up only putting in one run's worth of time. Then you have people like me who can take games with little to no story but a ton of different ways to play the game and sink hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours into it.
MW5 - 1k. DRG - 1.7k. Terraria - 3k. Starbound - 1.2k. (Yes I know I'm a no-life with numbers like that. =p)
With the right player, a lot of choice can make a game a near-infinite pool of experiences. With the wrong one, that same game may be played through once and then never touched again.
@@HazopGaze I agree with all that but while I have put in copious hrs into Mw5 I remember the better MWs like MW2-4 had actual story campaign that you followed and that experience was way better than the open sandbox we have in Mw5 mercs. Don’t get me wrong I like it but it could be done so much better. Sometimes all you need is one play through it just has to be memorable. I think us gamers have gotten lost in the whole open sandbox that’s very watered down usually bc there is a lot of AI generated maps and most times I feel you can tell the love isn’t there.
The engine supports modding, so it's likely modders will come out with something like a sandbox clan campaign where you can play as any of the invading clans and take the invasion all the way to terra.
@@luigi2396 Yeah, I agree on that last bit for sure. There are some sandboxes that you can feel the dev's passion for their project - DRG being one of the big ones for me - and others where it's more lackluster and starts getting stale faster.
I don't care about hours of "cinematic cutscenes" just give me a good game. MW3 and MW4 both had short cutscenes that were really well done, I don't need any more than that.
I love cinematic cutscenes and a great story as long as it's not all there is. I like that they're trying to distinguish Mercs from Clans.
MW5 needs a Clan invasion DLC imho but I'd settle for MW6 doing that at this point.
They won't retain players for a MW6. MWO community was pissed off enough that they made MW5 on the sly, and let MWO slip with all they wanted to do for it.
It's dfificult to get any former MWO players driven away to new pastures to drop in MW5.
There isn't this auto generating community that will keep replenishing back decisions on their part.
3D printing mechs may have won out and they are engaging with reality instead of online.
@@crusaderpatronsofcanada8716 "They won't retain players for a MW6" Why not? I've played everything Battletech since 1995. I'll certainly have a good look at a MW6 should we ever get one.
If the campaign plays more like Mech Warrior 4 I will be so happy. I think thoughtfully and creatively crafted levels and missions will be far superior to the very samey procedurally generated levels. I did enjoy MW5 mercs as a kinda rogue-like 'mech game, but it never really scratched my itch for a true successor to the older Mechwarrior games. I'll let myself be optimistic. :)
If movement mechanics were more fun, maybe mw5 Mercs wouldn't be boring
Hope they throw out some more gameplay trailers. Also maybe they'll have a crossover between mercs and clans. Thinking an updating that'll put some of the features of clans into merc or mechs.
Very juch hoping some of the HUD elements are gone on release, it looks mental.
You know, I'm happy for more Mech, especially clan.
But I would love to see the next title tackle WoB. There is so much there to get into.
Super excited for this game. It's going to be fun just to see the performance difference between inner sphere and clan mechs and the cultural differences as well.
I prefer Clan Star Adder. But this is the next best thing.
I hope the hud can be changed, it looks hard to see
I'm guessing (hoping?) that we'll get a branching path where we either defect, or go all-in with the war crimes.
Going with the Jaguars was a very interesting - even brave - choice. Until the WOBies and Melvina Hazen show up later, the invasion-era Jaguars were the closest thing to a clear-cut "bad" faction in Battletech. The Wolves and later the Bears were the "nice clans", the Jade Falcon were the "bad but honorable and present a balanced Crusader POV" clan, and the Jaguars where the "we're just all a-holes" clan. To the point that everyone was suddenly rooting for the Combine, who had been mostly the "baddies" of Battletech until then.
I'm excited. I generally don't like playing bad guys, but I love this setting so much (and no faction is innocent - we're mainly attacking pirates and the Combine, who are *emphatically* not innocent) that I'm super interested in how they tell this story. Heck, if they do have branching paths, I'll probably play every branch.
Mech5:Mercs and Clans, might mirror MechWarrior 4: Vengeance and it's standalone expansion MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries
Kinda the same for Mechwarrior 2. The original one was a clanner game with the Wolves against Jade Falcon. Later came Mechwarrior 2: Mercs, which was unrelated to the first.
Regarding replay value... Remember, we didn't need any sandboxes to replay MW2. You just do it again because you can't get enough of stomping around and making mechs go boom
But will it have Call of Duty level sales? Asking for a friend. [Russ]
I actually brought up the Halo line with the author on Twitter, turns out it was an editing mistake where it meant to say "like MW5:Mercs" about the "basic scenarios and text" and not Halo.
All I want is confirmation of Mod Support and Career mode. I can wait till the first DLC for that tho, I suppose.
If the game is successful enough there will be a DLC.
Remember Turtle Bay: these are the bad guys.
turtle bay was a evil place..
That just a matter of perspective
All this sounds really good, except for one thing, that as a player you have a decision to make... I hope that the decisions will be many throughout the campaign.
Everything else sounds great, I hope they have respected that the pilots ask for a target and the others respect their singular combat at least at certain times unless you impose an order above.
And I hope that this will have some future impact on the Mechwarrior 5 mercs, or that it will even serve as a DLC o future part of a DLC in which they expand the game to the era with the clans and the conflicts that occur in it.
Can't wait for this to come out. It will give me an excuse to use my 8-button gaming mouse again. I hope they still have the option to walk around the mech bay in this one too.
The game will have a sandbox Mode? IF not there's a chance they update mercs with the changes?
I'm very carefully optimistic about this game, only thing is I don't think the UI is there yet, it seems more in the way than useful in most of the shots, except for the battlemap command screen
im worried like Mw5 it will be pretty crap and launch at then improved greatly with mods... Mw5 vanilla is not a very good game, with mods its pretty awesome
What I would love to play would be a BattleTech wargame with a lot of units involved in a single battle.
You can get that in MW5:Mercs with the right DLC
There will definitely need to be some replayability. I get they wanna be different from mercs but I think for a lot of folk, replayability is super important. Some sort of career or sandbox mode or something
Great to see you covering more of our favourite Mechwarrior games!
And yes, as my game of choice for the last 30 years, i will also get this one and play the heck out of it, like I did with Mw5mercs (and still sometimes MWO )
They keep showing THAT HUD in the screenshots..... Brother ew.
Sack the HUD designer, he gets worse with every game. MWOs HUD is great, it's uniform in design language and color. Heck, MWOs UI (apart from scaling) is seriously good. MW5m dropped the ball hard on this. Now clans is going a step further with this terrible HUD design? Fark me.
I would settle for the ability to change it to one I like.
The best HUD I saw was in the MW5: Mercs MechCon 2016 introduction video ruclips.net/video/Gz8Y1V8gy1A/видео.html
The best HUD I've seen are in the MechCon 2016 MW:Mercs introduction
@@drake6782 why settle?
[16:55] Sabre Cat... I recognize that name.

Oh!
Warning: Mild Spoiler (though expected) if you check.
im a huge fan of mercinaries, this video has gotten me excited
I just thought of a cool idea.
Mw5 mercs timeline continues infinitely
Why not make MW5 Clans the clan side and MW5 merca the IS side. PvPvE mode, like Battlefronts Galactic Conquest mode.
Canadian studio. Narrative focus. Constant emphasis in trailers about how the Draconis Combine are fascists. Honestly I'm a bit worried about this, sounds like SBI at work behind the scenes.
Hopefully this will surpass mw5 with the current mandatory mods. Still don't think this would be a day one buy if it wont have workshop support.
Any news on physical copies and any collector’s editions?
That actually sounds like a game I'd love to play. Been waiting for a real MW5 for 20 years!
Thanks for bringing this to us. I can only hope it comes out a fantastic game.
This is essentially seems like an overgrown DLC for Mercs. And from the sounds of it without a "sandbox mode" or career mode like we have in Mercs which means that I'm not interested tbh. If this ever gets an update that adds a career mode like we currently have, then it's a definite buy but until then this just isn't worth whatever the price eventually will be.
I'm in agreement with you there, replayability for me is how much freedom I'm given to make my own stories and choose my own path. I'd rather get 50 different stories out of one game then a single story that grows old after 1 or 2 playthroughs once you know all its twists and turns.
@@lucianjaeger4893 True that
Honestly, do the character models look great? The faces are amazing for sure, but the bodies? They are too thin and unimposing to appear like genetically engineered warriors bred for combat. With all the descriptions we have of canners they are physically imposing. Not all look like Arnold or an elemental, but almost all have an imposing physical presence. The bodies of the models just do not convey that to me. It looks like a comic con super hero with muscles shaded in on the spandex or stuffed with padding.
If I remember correctly, that's true for the most part... unless you're an aerospace jock.
As someone that plays with an ultrawide screen I am all for a massive UI. It's so easy not to see things with 57 inches of screen length.
Is it just me or is Battletech really picking up with the clan invasion and the influx of cool new gear.
Clan Diamond Shark... Without the rigid bulshit that causes a weakness
"you have brought dishonor upon my family....."
I am looking forward to this game, I would much rather have a good story to follow than wander around in a sandbox game looking for stuff to do. The story telling of Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4 was excellent in my opinion, and I hope this game works in a similar way.
Absolutely shattered that this game is coming out two months after my apprenticeship starts. I might not play this for a whole year ;_;
The gameplay, once modded, will likely have depth and be fair. The story had better not push current politics and had better be absolutely immersive per the old novels and not some soft California safe space interpretation of what it is to serve and conduct yourself in a caste system based on martial skill and personal honor.
More Mechs is never wrong!
Looks great! Can't wait
Ow yea! I can't wait to play my favorite mechs :D
There are really only two explanations for retaining the number 5. Either its legal, or there are somehow strong ties with 5. Kind of leaning into it being legal though, there's no reason to keep that number what with the risk of customer confusion.
It was already done with Mechwarrior 2 and mechwarrior 4 and all their different games
@@MatteoB-gx1bo yeah, MW2: Mercs was intended to be MW3, right? But they didn't have the rights to do another entry in the series, so they called it a MW2 expansion instead?
This looks like a more blatant example of that kind of thing. 5 Clans looks like an entirely different game to 5 Mercs. And I've been hearing for a while that Piranha's MW licence is coming to an end.
I wanted to see Mechwarrior Clans, not some random guy talking boring shit for hours.
They attacked MY HOME PLANET!
Hi Adam!
As far as 'Movie' Content and 'Narrative Storytelling', that means little to me. If you want to make a Movie, MAKE a Movie. Videogames are NOT MOVIES and shouldn't try to be.
For example, the very popular, 'Last of Us', games, are in fact, Movies, with Mini-Game Sequences smashed in, to give the player the illusion of participating in the story, when the truth is, they have no effect on the narrative. People seem to think that makes it 'better', but since you can watch all the movie clips and get the exact same story, what IS the point of the Mini-games? It's emotional Manipulation, pure and simple.
So, it appears that MW5- Clans, is going to be structured the exact same way. Big deal. The only nice thing I can say about that is that at least it doesn't pretend to be an RPG.
why not upgrade Mercs in 2026 as a UE5 Upgrade DLC ?
Clans, heck yes. Will be building a new PC just to play this and MWO.
Meanwhile, throngs of players who bought the first MW5 game, were expecting, yet again, a Clan Invasion of the inner Sphere, with faction zones when the timeline advances. Are players stuck or will this be addressed?
Two different games where the Clan invasion wasn't finalized with success.
How many Btech titles can a company make with Clan Invasion as a goal and not do it?
Even Comstar and Jyhad are here in MW5 to make a reality, and....what? DLC that demands you start over for it to work instead of time travel back in time?
Time travel works. There are tonnage limits for reason.
Player interaction and game play needs to be more challenging or is this something left to the MOD community? It shouldn't be.
More Btech fans play this game alone than are active at any time in MWO. The MW5 CAN be the best Mechwarrior game for the foreseeable future. Do the devs want it to be?
I think I already know the answer. Can a player play lance vs lance combat against a fried, with his Inner Sphere mechs from the other MW5 game?
IF not why?
I am excited for this game I am a big fan for mechwarrior I been playing since mechwarrior 3 and mechwarrior 4 vegance I think it was and thanks for the info keep up the good work buddy love ur videos …. The reason I am asking is cuz I am a noob lol I been getting my ass kicked and kept losing the fights and lost all my money will mechwarrior 5 clans have money to spend to repair ur mech u probably said it but I think I missed it
I 100%am getting this!
Huh... ? Every bloodline Clanner mechwarrior is indoctrinated from start. And jade falcon was dickish even by Clanner standards.
And Madcats wouldnt be Jade Falcon stock... they are clan Wolf unless someone lost one :D
Timber wolfs are known to have been given as rare gifts or taken as Isorla. Clan Wolf had their sole factory in their possesion on Strana Mechty.
@@GrenadeMcSticki yes, a very very rare case. A scrub clanner would have little to zero chance to get one

The path Clans has picked up is appealing for me. It's no easy to hand craft a good story, even being backed up by massive BT lore, but I beleive in Pirahna.
It is easy is what I'm telling you.
Finally a good MW Game after decades. Can't wait to recruit my old Mechwarrior Living Legends Crew to play this.
I just hope that co-op is solid. Playing from the start to the end together, with everyone changing and tweaking their 'mechs along the way.
