About Subnautica:
Subnautica is an open world survival game in development by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
Subnautica allows the player to explore an aquatic alien planet by scuba diving and traveling it, while collecting resources and food to survive. It was released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2014.
The Xbox release was in August 2016.
The player controls in first-person view the lone survivor of a crashed ship on an aquatic planet.
The main objective of the player is to explore the open world environment and survive the dangers of the planet, while also continuing the story.
Subnautica allows the player to collect resources, construct tools, bases, and submersibles, and interact with the planet's wildlife.
Players must keep themselves adequately hydrated and fed, and must also maintain their oxygen supply while traversing underwater.
They discover remnants of the Precursors, an ancient alien species, that used to live on the planet, massive structures and receive mysterious signals by a strange entity. The development team opted to use the Unity engine rather than Spark, the engine used for the company's previous game, Natural Selection 2.
Subnautica producer Hugh Jeremy justified this decision because of the different demands that the game places on the engine, and "because [the team] does not include people working on Spark, it's not appropriate for Subnautica to use Spark.
By using Unity for Subnautica, Spark can continue to develop in certain directions, while Subnautica develops in others.
To use Spark for Subnautica would be to try and square peg a round hole."
Subnautica was released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2014.
Subnautica was originally planned to be released on Xbox One on April 1, 2016, but was ultimately delayed by another month.
After Below Zero, the next game in the Subnautica universe (Subnautica 3) was announced in early 2022, expected to launch in early access about a year later. Игры
its terrifying how big the creatures in this game actually are. You can't tell in game because of the way they made the camera but when you go into freecam to check it is *HUGE*
Wish there was a mod or guide that helps player get a better prespective
@@Lemon_Push well not a mod but playing it in VR really helps. Like Subnautica is wayy scarier in VR lol
@@elgonbert7914 owO
I read somewhere that that infact is the reason why the creatures were made that big, because they looked smaller in perspective
Yeah, subnautica’s fov is way out of wack. VR seems to be the only way you can actually appreciate the scale.
Suddenly the sand sharks are so much scarier. It's a real bummer that the predator AI is a bit wonky so the enemies are never a threat besides leviathans
I actually love their wonky AI, makes them real fun (outside of the obvious tiger sounds
@@CaptainManaFruit that's adorable actually, I love that
imagine if predator ai had human brain
Except for those damn Bone Sharks. Hated every time I had to go to the Underwater Islands. F***ers gave me no time to catch my breath.
@@CaptainManaFruit i call them crack heads
I didn't expect the Cave Crawler to be this big, but holy sh*t is the Blood Crawler terrifying when compared to a human
Saw it and all i thought was holy cow
Correction *sandshark
Correction sea treader
Cave crawler is not that Big he can jump on ur arm cratures are bigger in this video than in reality
@@azr2.0 bruh what are you talking about
Fun fact: ghost leviathans are technicaly longer than seadragons,
Seadragons size is restricted by caves,
And ghostleviathans have all the space they need in the void.
And they continue growing forever so
what about ancient fossil
It's possible that the Ghost Leviathans wee see in the game aren't even the biggest members of the species. They may be able to grow up to 150 meters.
The void leviathans don’t count it’s only the ones in the lost river
@@Mavrick-yh6rt The ones in the lost river are juveniles, the leviathans living in the void are the adults
I feel like the field of view in the game is really unnatural, thus making the creatures look a lot smaller than they are
The problem isn't the fov but it's the camera size itself
It’s apparently a phenomenon that happens in the ocean irl. The water makes size wonky
When you play in vr everything is huge, like peepers and bladder fish are the size of your head
Thats why I play in VR
The developers also ran into this problem, so they decided to supersize all of the creatures to make them look somewhat normal
I disturbs me that Sand Sharks could easily swallow you whole. When playing the game it looks more like the size of a large stingray.
perhaps a manta ray
When i played it it seemed small dog size
I never realized that the gargantuan leviathan was so long. I knew it had the short tentacles but that long body is deceptively large
Well he's a long boi
Well canonically we don't know what it actually looks like, but we do know that they were at least 1.2 kilometres in length
@@benis2818 but that's based off of the juvenile skeleton that's found in game, and seen from the largest fauna currently alive, the juvenile would be about 25% of the max size. 4x 1.2km is about 5km.
The large skeleton in the lost river is an adult.
@@Aci_yt and it's 1.2km being only 1/3 part of it so if we do math it's a 3.8km long
I always though the Sand Shark’s length was the players height.
The Reaper looks absurdly massive. Why does it even bother attacking the player?
It's nearly all muscle and very little brain... Besides, big predators go after small things every now and then, nevermind especially aggressive ones like Reapers.
@@ASR-Ansori Some are just straight up territorial so they attack anything in the area that trespassed onto their claimed area
Candy is small compared to us, yet we like the taste of em, which is probably the same with the reaper leviathans.
To Reaper leviathans the seamoth is a small crunchy snack with a juicy little middle
idk if it was for the reaper but one of the leviathans is in a perpetual state of starvation and will eat anything it perceives as food
In the game, cave crawlers look like Maybe the size of a cat, or even a large tarantula, NOT THE SAME SIZE AS YOU. Suddenly exploring the aurora is going to be a lot scarier…
Now think about that pda message that says creatures in the aurora have human tissue in their digestive system
@@freakda96 That makes a scary amount of sense
The fact that the gargantuan can probably eat an entire family of sea emperors and still not notice a change, amazes me
Does he have in the game or is he a fancharacter? because I never saw him
Felipelipe662 He is a mod in the game he doesn’t appear normally other than the skeleton in the lost river
@@xxlegitnessxx1235 I meant it thanks.
@@Felipelipe662 its an extinct creature its skeleton is in the lost river. Fun fact: thats only 1/3 of its entire skeleton
that's why it got extinct
To think that Crashfish are over a meter long is truly the most terrifying thing in this video
Given the size of some of the smaller fish, it's no wonder the other life pods didn't make it
Imagine your life pod sinks at crab squid level
@@Kav_himself well it technically append for some crew members because in the crabsquid area, there is a base of some of the survivors
The cave crawler, crabsquid and crimson ray were the most surprising for me.
bart encountering it in the trailer seemed so exaggerated until now...
@@kerenb14 Who the hell is Bart?😆
@@janvesely1087 i think explaining it would be sort of spoilery (but you can always search for him on the subnautica wiki if you don't care about spoilers)
@@kerenb14 Oh I know him, I just had no idea he was the guy in the trailer. I always assumed it was Riley.
I always thought the sandshark was like half my size!?!? Some of these look really small in game but now they are even more scary because now I actually know their true size..
good lord i *vastly* underestimated the sizes of the "small" creatures. To think that a human can fit inside the mouth of a boneshark is insane
the cave crawler also, I figured it was like the size of a cat, something that you could probably step on and squish, but NOPE
Probably still could squish it if you stepped on it, with that soft top part, but it would be more of damaging a vital organ than smashing it flat. Also you'd have to get close enough.
Maybe not a cat? But at max a medium dog. But dang they are as big as you wtf xD
i actually really like seeing the human comparison next to the creatures. it really puts into perspective just how big even the common, 'basic' creatures are and makes the giants all the more terrifying. the first person pov i think warps how they look, it's incredible to see just how big everything is compared to the player! really good work
Should be noted that the only reason they're this big is because of how the field of view works in this game. A combination of oversized fov, being underwater with no size reference, and first person view makes everything look smaller. Because of that they bumped everything up a bit. That's why despite being so big that it can swallow you whole, the Reaper only damages you. It doesn't LOOK like it can swallow you whole.
The only reason they are this big is because this video is complete bs.
@MP HZ It is not. With very, few exceptions, these sizes are accurate.
Check them yourself in game before calling me a liar.
@@Aci_yt I don't think he's calling you a liar, he's just saying that they just don't look nearly as big from the 1st person persspective, and that's why the devs made the models exceedingly large
Ghost Leviathans spawn in three sizes - the ones in the Lost River Cave (juveniles), the ones in the Grand Reef (normal ones) and the ones in the Void (larger ones)
There is another adult in the blood kelp zone.
Is the void the zone outside of the map or is it an actual place inside of a region
@@Higher-Ground the void, or the craters edge, is the zone surrounding the crater the map is in, so if you just go in one direction for too long, you’ll end up there.
@@cross-layered8538 Happend to me lmao I just let my cyclops running, and then all of a sudden by pda goes "Warning: Entering ecological dead zone.", and then i see the ghost slamming into me head first xD Thankfully i managed to turn on the shields and 180 back into the crater before i ran out of power
@@cross-layered8538 I do hope that in the third or forth instalment we get to explore the void more, and maybe adventure into it, trying to find other habitabal zones (besides the crater and sector zero).
Check out the NEW & UPDATED version that includes ALL BELOW ZERO CREATURES: ruclips.net/video/x0TkUuv_MG4/видео.html
This video took ages, so if you enjoyed please consider subscribing and share it with your friends
CORRECTIONS:
• I didn't include all common fish (such as eyeyes, reginalds, etc.), since they're all about the same size as a garryfish.
• At 2:06, the sign is obviously supposed to say Jellyray, not Ghostray
• The crabsquid is in the right place, but the sign is supposed to say 12m, not 21m
• Something I sadly only noticed after the video was up, is that the sandshark, cave crawler, stalker and cuddlefish are scaled up too much in this version
• I originally included the guardian skeleton here, I'm not sure where it went. Sorry about that!
• The gargantuan leviathan model is the one used for the mod, which is 5km long.
dude i normaly love your vids but these sices cant be true the gargantuan leviathan is definatly the biggest because you can see that the ghost leviathan is so small compared to its freakin skull
The skull is the juvenile gargantuan leviathan.
Are you gonna do subntuica reaper spacial video
@@Aci_yt I’ve heard you mention that skull a lot but never found it myself, where roughly is said juvenile gargantuan skull?
10 seconds in to the vid and his alredy sus
I really enjoyed this. I didnt realize how big of these were like the cave crawler, on the other hand I thought Sky rays were much bigger.
This is something always spectacular with games in first person. You never truly feel how massive many of the things are, until you go in VR or Freecam. Suddenly, things that seemed like the size of a person, become bigger than most vehicles.
Reefback is the only one that I thought was smaller than in the actual game. Man the perspective really does trip you up.
Wow this was so cool it’s good to see the sizes not just in art but in an animation it gives a different feel.
Keep up the good work 👍👍
This was great-had NO idea the scale here…it’s impressive.
If you have the time you should make one with below zero creatures or with both! Love the video though
Just wanna point out that the Sea Emperor alone is larger than Godzilla in his most recent movies, and he's already bigger than most buildings.
The Gargantuan is roughly 25× larger.
Wow I’m super glad you popped up in my recommended, even better that your vid is a fundraiser. I look forward to your future vids my dude and keep up the great work! 👍
My god, just the sheer difference in size between the Sea Emperor and the Gargantuan is staggering.
Should have included the Aurora, that thing is massive.
Whenever you see the blood crawlers in-game they don't seem so big, but when you look at it from 3rd person perspective it's alarming to see how much taller they are than you
Holy crap, I knew the camera and the FoV made everything look way smaller than it actually was, but I didn't expect it to be by so much, I always thought the player was about the size of the red thing above the reaper's head
Subnautica would be way scarier if you could actually see the sizes
This video is awesome, just as awesome as the person who made it :D
My question is how did the gargantuan leviathan sustain itself? It's obviously a carnivore by the teeth but the only thing in game of similar size is emperor. Maybe that's why it went extinct...
Bruh when gargantuan lives there were animals similar sized to him and maybe bigger this skeleton has a milion of years
The world would’ve had a lot more leviathan class creatures and more in numbers too. The skeleton is aged at 3 million years old. A lot changes in that time. Also keep in mind that even as recently as the kharaa outbreak things have changed. There was probably a lot more life before the outbreak but that bacterium is devastating
It existed in the days before kaharaa bacteria, and it lived outside the crater. In game we see the remains of a previous leviathan that was similar to a snail, with a lenght of 1200 (about as long as the aurora). Meaning with time the leviathans got exponentialy smaller.
OH MY GOD THE SANDSHARK-
Please make one that includes Below Zero as well
I never realised how Big the sandshark is! It is Like as Big as a earth shark!
Imagine being a Gargantuan Leviathan against the founding titan
Nice vid aci love the stuff
I waiting for this so much time... Thanks
the sandshark is huge wtf
Didn't expect them to be that big tbh
Keep up with the videos I love to watch it
And Margureit fought reaper leviathans THAT SIZE
Everything after the cave crawler just progressively shocked me more and more
You should do this with the below zero creatures!
This is one of my favorite Subnautica videos that have come out in the past few years, wonderful work Aci!!
I made a new version with all creatures just yesterday :)
@@Aci_yt I'm definitely checking it out! Thanks, man.
Thanks, Aci :) I'm twice as terrified of Subnautica than I was before (PS I was already super terrified of Subnautica)
Well it’s crazy to think about in a realistic point of view like imagining yourself in that situation in RL. Cause according to their sizes pretty much all of the aggressive creatures should be able to OHK you realistically. The stalker could literally bite you in half or whole if it tried and don’t even get me started on the sandshark or the bone shark. Not to mention creatures that don’t even necessarily bite you like the amp eel, it prolly puts out enough current for its size that even coming remotely close to would guarantee your demise never-mind touching it. And these are creatures that you’d have to encounter on your journey to survive and find a way off the planet like the Crab Squids im sure their organic EMP emissions aren’t exactly good for your health. Hell even the crab snake, when it lunges out of the mushrooms that’s a wrap, GG, no way the PC’s arms or yours are stopping those pincer mandible things from impaling you/him or at least wrangling you around enough to the point that some of your scuba gear knocks loose and you end up drowning and getting eaten anyway. Idk tl;dr it’s crazy thinking about someone survive this and being infected by an alien pathogen
A bit of constructive feedback:
1) You should have over the course of the video replaced the player with the vehicles. That would have made for better comparisons.
2) At the beginning the angle was a bit off and you couldn’t properly read the sign every time.
Everything else was pretty good. You should do this more often. 👍
I'll try my best to fix those if i do a version for Below Zero :)
@@Aci_yt
Tbh, I think including the player character with each had quite a bit of value for sake of perspective.
But I can see how maybe including something like the cyclops or seatruck as well for comparison with the leviathans would be useful.
@@Aci_yt having the neptune rocket would have been good
This video genuinely made me itch. Lol. Its freaky how big things actually are.
This was very interesting too see
*Looks in announcements discord channel* i dont need to watch that
*reccomended*: yes you do
literally had the same thing rn smh
That’s literally me
Bro I had no idea the sea treaded was so massive 😳
What I wanna know is how the sea emperor makes every fish passive even the garg
THX!!! Really interested movie ; )
Quick Question how can you hold a half a meter fish in your hand?
2:06 Mate, that's a Jellyray.
You sa it two
Dang it! xD
I had no idea the sea treader was THAT big
I’m so glad u added the gargantuan leviathan that swallowed Avery Quinn.
Something I've noticed about the Garg with the Return of the Ancients mod.
How and why is it that a garg needs to attack a cyclops twice to destroy it when it has the teeth, bite force, and size to destroy it as if its a peeper being eaten by the character. I just found it odd, aside from that thing that has been bugging me, the mod is insane and also has insane detail that in some cases seems like it was originally in the game.
And those aside, some of these surprised me. Especially the Blood Crawler one which is insane.
never realised how big lava larva truely are
edit: same goes for gasopod, all the rays, cave crwaler, lava lizard, sandshark, boneshark, the levaithans and HOLY SHOT THE GARG!
Yo dude! keep up the good stuff
Perspective really is a scary thing because they don't look that big until you see them next to the player or vehicle
I always knew the creatures are way bigger than what they seem, but you cant tell me a Crabsquid is 21 Meters high. I just dont think thats true since its like 75% of three Multipurpose Rooms which is like 10-15 Meters or so
You're right, it isnt.
That's supposed to say 12m, not 21, my bad!
This was great, but I believe Bacon did a similar comparison, though with a different angle in more of a 3D style. This was much more in depth since you really showed all the creatures on the planet, so props for all the hard work
I mean I've done a normal size comparison before, too, I just think you get a better feel for it in 3D :)
Hey there aci I’m exited to be here!
Now I'm in the mood for playing subnautica. Great job though! :D
Metal ball studios would be proud of you, good work.
Ohhh it’s on soon
Imagine trying to turn the Gargantuan Leviathan into Sushi. You'd have about 400 years worth Sushi.
Most of these surprised me because when your playing the game they look much smaller than they are apparently
Now we just need one comparing Sub 1 and Sub 2 creatures. Cool vid.
I would actually have a heart attack if i see gargantuan leviathan come after me
Wow the game really makes some of these look to be a different size than they actually are
Thanks for including me in your video
Nightmare leviathan: hold my cyclops
I know it’s just concept art but it would be sick if it was real
I was confused for a second what the weird bipedal thing in the thumbnail was then I realized it's the sea emperor from the front
The fact the camera doesn’t do justice in the game makes this scarier
I would legitimately be terrified of a peeper, that thing is bigger than my head. Riley went through some stuff on the planet lol
I love how aci used the return of the ancients model for the garg
Sidenote: where did you find these cause their fricken awsome
I like 3d Subnautica hope you do 3d Below Zero Subnautica too.
I could only imagine living with these creatures on our planet lol. Just chilling on a cruise and big chungo comes outta nowhere
JESUS CHRIST THE SAND SHARK
Even in this free form view some of these are absolutely terrifying.
Very cool!
The sea emperor looks like an evolved sea dragon
It’s scary to think that the gargantuan leviathan is almost half the length of Mount Everest
You forgot the Reginald!Very Scary asrse video tho!Im scared.Great work
Nice job!
You forgot the hole fish and the sea emperor baby and for the vehicles you forgot the prawn suit
I'm terrified I will never look at subnautica that same again
imagine peacefully swimming and then a beast long 5 km becomes hungry and decises that you're gonna be lunch
Gargantuan leviathan is just scary
I’ve never played subnautica but it does explain why the cyclops is so desired if it’s almost as big as the Reaper Leviathan if not for the fact it’s practically a mobile base.
Cool thank you! Now I know what I found. 😁
nice video bro
I'ma make a roleplay for ya!
........
You were exploring alot today, and right now your closer to the crashed ship than you've been since you crashed.
You are in your sub when suddenly you hear.....
"Entering echological Deadzone."
Oh I just saw started the game a few hours ago and was attacked by a really big thing, and turns out from this video, that was a reaper leviathan. I lived.
Cool video.
