    It seems weird to me that vr games don't have options for low graphics settings. If they can get their game to run on the quest's mobile processor they could definitely get it to run on lower end pc's with better graphics than a quest.

    • @CoilWhine
      @CoilWhine  Год назад +1

      Some titles have a few settings, but I agree. There really should be the ability to fine-tune some things better.
      Hell, I don't even care about performance sometimes, but the antialiasing in Legendary Tales (a game I want to love) is so shit that it makes everything kinda blurry. It's the only title that gives me headaches, so the ability to turn stuff on and off would be nice...

    Would like to see how something like the old Vive from 2016 would work with the Deck using its Linux based SteamOS

    I recommend to change your vram to 4gb in the bios, and set your virtual memory to 10,000 and 11,000 in the settings. This will massively improve the performance on windows and would result in 60 to 70 FPS in vr.

    • @CoilWhine
      @CoilWhine  Год назад

      The vram was set to max, but I think this was mostly due to bad windows drivers. I'll have to revisit it with the index on linux when I get a chance.

    Maybe I’m just cheap but I won’t lie, that doesn’t look that bad to me, I’ve played at slightly choppy frame rates on standalone quest 2 and I’ve been able to tolerate it, I just don’t want it to be choppy as hell to the point where it’s unplayable

    I have a GREAT IDEA for this one. How about you run the oculus software on the deck and stream the stuff from a main pc hmm. Sense the big pc would be doing most of the heavy lifting all the streaming to the deck would do is offer more range still a interesting exparament.

      I got to daily the steamdeck for a few weeks (borrowed it from Gab, the other host) and it's a seriously impressive device.
      People just wanted to see it do VR because the quest 2 can do it on a phone cpu.
      I think this could be better if I run it on SteamOS with the index (we didn't have a displayport dock at the time), as the windows drivers are a bit....awful.

      ARM is better for power consumption, yes, but the quest 2 is running basically an 865 at what is likely a 5w TDP.

    I wouldn't call vr on the steam deck a write off as the performance is worse since the image has to be compressed which use a fair bit of processing power. You'd get a much better experience using an older wired headset with a direct display connection and lower resolution. The low spec gamer has done a few vr videos running vr games on even weaker hardware and that was all before things like FSR mods!
