Crazy how comfortable he is with a critical drop. Can’t imagine many others on the tour would handle themselves like this in huge surf. If only the regular CT also included some big wave contests

The air drop JJ was wave of the winter!! I replayed it over and over, my first view I held my breath… From those of us that have had the awesome experience of huge Waimea what a power drop that was!!
John John back to 90 percent scary draw for anyone good to see him keeping the best close by Jack is a Beast from what I've seen at pipe both of them world best surfers right now
Paddle in, take the drop, negotiate the massive wall, and rush it to the awaiting shoulder to safety! Pretty much sums up Waimea! Not a long ride, but a terrifying one!
I recall seeing these big waves in 73 or 74 while stationed there. Walked down to the beach. It was at first was terrifying they looked like they come all the way inshore. Tried body surfing ended up doing a face plant on shore breakers.. stuck out my arms nope folded them then the face plant.. I believe Sharks Cove was on one side and the Pipe Line was on the other. Went nite diving at sharks cove at nite and while there never went day diving again. Dennis Kerwin was the Scuba instructor. Maui, PADI, And good ole YMCA. CERTS. mostly good memories! Aloha
