I usded to surf Uluwatu a lot. I have never seen someone surfing it like Italo. He throws insane huge airs in the dry reef with ao much speed and mixing up with carves. Some people don't like his style but no one ever surfed Ulus like this.
Yeah people criticize Italo a lot because his open stance, but from what I've heard it's kinda of a cultural thing from Baia Formosa (his homebreak) - most pro surfers from that place have an open stance (what people call "poo stance"). He also has this twitchy crazy approach to the rail wich makes some people dislike him... But Italo definetly doesn't care - it's just the way he is.
@@pdrcmplm even in a point break like Italo home town Baia formosa. The waves are not so clean in Brazil that's why Brazilian surfers are very radical but not so clean. We don't have clean lines to polish our style but we have bumpy waves to learn how to surf crazy. It is what it is. But no one can deny how crazy and how much Italo pushes the limits of surfing.
@@Universomy Agreed bro! The best breaks in southeast Brasil are always inconsistent and full of backwash... Also groundswells are so rare and the continental plataform is large. It's a case of how hard Brasilians are pushing the surf.
Some peeps might not understand that small racetrack is shallow,, the reefs hard n sharp and surfing it like this without much visible caution is rather brave.
Omg, I’m always amazed by his surfing. I honestly dont get why some people don’t like it. It’s so powerful, so fierce and also so highly technical. He is a raw surfer! Being a surfer myself, I admire him even more, because I know how hard it is to do what he does and makes look easy. Both Gabriel and Italo are sick surfers and each have their own unique style, but saying he’s awful to watch, for me means you don’t know much about surfing. More love and less hate please. Peace!

Unquestionably 2 of the very best that have ever rode surfboards. Undeniably world champions.
Watching these two at Uluwatu, is like a reverse of watching , Fanning and Parko at Snapper.

Gabriel better smoother style and carves. Italo is twitchy and airs.
Both need polish
Italo is awful to watch 🤮
So please don't watch it and stop complaining.
