    • @naraku971
      @naraku971 15 дней назад +8

      The AI bros really hate when you redraw the character designs, and I think it's hilarious, though it seems like I've ruffled the feathers of an ANTI AI person because she literally called a redrawn image an AI image (which was weird as I only redraw in my own style, and my style looks nothing like the run of the mill AI style), and before I could even respond, she'd already blocked me. Like huh???

    You can't "steal" AI art because it's not copyrightable, and it's not "art." "Art" is literally defined as having been created by a human being. A computer program, even if coded by a human, is not a human. Therefore, the images it generates do not fulfill the requirements to constitute the definition of "Art." "AI Images" would be the more appropriate terminology. So, good on you for already having done so in your video! You're 100% correct to call them that because they're not art in either the literal or metaphorical sense.
    Everyone should feel free to "steal" as much AI generated content as they desire for reference material on the things they do well and make your own corrections to areas which aren't quite there (such as hands, hair, and other elements). It's 100% moral, justified, and easy to do. So, go for it! Take all the AI content you want. Nobody can complain about it.

    • @skyjelly9790
      @skyjelly9790 12 дней назад

      I don't use AI-generated shit as reference material because I'm not a dumbass and I actually want accurate anatomy and perspective.

      Also legality doesn't equal morality. It's amazing how much the internet is blind to this.

    This is so so beautiful and the first take on AI that I 100% agree with. Your art is absolutely amazing and this video also really helped me and made me think about putting more life and soul into my drawings - and made me feel more confident about the direction my life and career is going. You made me as an artist feel less like I was being replaced and more like I have special and unique skills that an ai can't mimic and that I will be able to find work as an artist because of that.
    So thank you! This was really helpful in so many ways! I can't believe you don't have more subs considering your level of skill, knowledge and your amazing empathy and understanding that make you such a joy to listen to and watch!!

    4:17 As a person who enjoys drawing characters and OC’s I think AI art is such a great concept in theory! But the ways is being used and passed off as being original really sucks. It could be such a great way to come up with concepts or ideas but instead it’s being used maliciously 😞

    I really love your nuance and honestly refreshing view of AI. Most artists nowadays just aggressively hate on ai and though I cant blame them, you're calmer approach really is a breath of fresh air. I'm an artist myself and tbh, I'm more saddened than angered at how this all played out. I adore the idea of humans and ai working together and tbh, I think that's where the future should go. But the current state of the ai field with the massive egos of ai bros to me only hinders the progress of ai and our society as a whole. AI isnt meant to replace artists or people but to help them yet this unfortunately isnt the case. I am hoping and praying that things will get better :((

    • @AthalieDrawsThings
      @AthalieDrawsThings  6 дней назад +1

      Suprisingly yes? So if you do traditional (its been years since ive done this) but you could put down a light wash of watercolor to paint in the shadow before sketching. that would also give you a bit of an overlay layer like in digital art because itll help unify the colors you put down after. I say watercolor because you can erase easier over watercolor than other paints. (I used to be a watercolor girlie before I went full traditional) I could be completely wrong, but Its definitely worth experimenting :D

    I have become mutuals with some art prompters on Deviantart, they are really nice and open about it. They don't want credit for their designs and just want to be paid for the subscription and little time. Part of their TOS is that you HAVE to say that the design was made by ai and preferably by the ai they are using. Overall they don't mind people using the design for inspiration. What I don't like and what they don't like either is completely 1:1 using the design. The one's that do always have the reason that it's stolen from artist, so why steal it as well? Stealing from a thief is still theft

    Ai is honestly good for concept, but yes. It would have been so much better if the artist was paid or even just asked for a "donation" for art. Can you imagine the things it could do with files and layers?? Ai "art" can be done right. I just think people hoped on it too soon. Also people looking for money grabs, rather than the love of learning a new skill. So its greedy, but it can be done right to HELP artists. Rather than taking them out of a job or loosing love for the skill because "a line of code can do better"

      depending on the AI you're talking about. AI images and videos are definitely hated by the art community. Only due to the fact they pretty much just took everything publicly posted on social media without an easy option to opt out, even worse now with programs like Adobe actually going into your Adobe creative cloud account to use your private work for AI. Although the art generated by AI doesn't usually look like any of our art, it was still theft to a lot of artists. If it wasn't for that I think AI images as a tool is wonderful! They just crossed a boundary with us by taking our art. Hope that helps and thank you for asking! :)

    Honestly, I wouldn't copy ai art because you are just copying thousands of different artist's art. I think it's the same as or even worse than copying others art and not giving credit. Pls don't hate me for saying this, I'm just voicing out my opinion. I think you are a good person with good intentions but I don't really recommend this🤔🤔🤔

      Also I don't really thing we can gate keep from ai because it's mostly people who are stealing our drawings. As we get better at drawing, ai gets better too, that's why ai is so bad at drawing hands and there really I is not a way to stop this sadly. Ai is in almost everything we do and the one to blame is humans. Don't fear the monster hiding under you bed, fear the humans -inspirational quote from me

      I just wanna comment this: As a fellow artist,
      That's (sometimes) how art works? A design is derived from MULTIPLE different concepts OTHER artists may have already thought about, but it doesn't make your work any less original.
      Like horns, for example.
      You see many artists draw horns - albeit sometimes differently, a non-artist might think it looks similar
      Because they have the same concept.
      Having a shared concept / multiple concepts taken into one art/design form is still original.
      It's not a 1:1 copy. It's what we artists calls referencing.
      Ex. I like how a certain artist does things, and I "merge" it with other artist's work that I find myself inspired by.
      Does that make my idea "original" ? No,
      But is **my artwork** original and not a 1:1 copy? Yes.
      That's just what this RUclipsr is trying to showcase through AI.
      I'm not justifying the usage of AI, but an artist's workflow also consists of referencing multiple artists. especially if you're a beginner.
      The only instance It's considered copying is 1:1. Copying EACH every single line, shade, colour. That is plagiarism, that is copying. Traving, even.
      I'm not calling you out on your own opinion, though ! I'm just saying this as it came from experience of referencing multiple artists' work that I find on pinterest (and if you know pinterest.. well, those people don't credit artists much anymore.)

      This is, in my opinion, what AI art should be used for. To help compile your ideas, and then you draw it yourself in your own styles. Artists have been copying others art for ages. Master studies- where artists copy piece for piece another artist’s drawing, tracing- ethically with permission and credit to get a better idea of how to draw a certain thing, and using references- both real and from other artists. Copying is, well, what are started out as and still is to this day. You copy the things you see, feel, hear, taste, and smell, and put them into works on your paper. Nothing is entirely original, and that’s part of the beauty of art.

    By copying AI art you are legitimizing the use of generative AI in your process. This is exactly what AI bros want you to do. To validate AI as a tool and form of reference. This isn’t stealing, this is giving them what they want. This same exact thing has happened recently on Twitter with artists redrawing an AI image in what they believed to be a form of protest, but the “creator” of the original AI image used this trend as an example of AI being good and thanked the artists for all their fan art.
    The implications of this are not good. Any new artists and any young people growing up will not be able to distinguish what is real from what isn’t, and since they won’t have that knowledge, any references they use, they will copy their mistakes too, however minor. This kind of video only encourages them to do so. Please do not use AI as a reference tool, it is only furthering the dead internet theory.
    By using AI as a tool, you are integrating it into your process, allowing for it to make decisions on composition, pose, idea, colors. Exactly what AI bros want for you to do so that they are able to substantiate their claims of Gen AI being beneficial by using videos like this, and artists who use it, as proof. It is vital that they cannot use this as proof, especially now that AI discussions are being taken into legal spaces and courts.
    Anything worth fighting for is going to be hard and there’s no room to be fair-weather about this

    You are the first artist I have seen who understands AI's utility and can see past the transgression.
    Like, I sympathize, I really do. But I also came to understand a similar issue a long time ago, and the simple fact is it's impossible to undo in real life. There's no Ctrl+Z for space time, and even if there was the billionaire class would already own whatever bits of it the government allowed.
    Generated images are here and they aren't going away. Something about genies and bottles. (I know you actually can get the genie back in the story, but AI has no ego to appeal to and it's listening to millions of voices and using up all the power capacity.
    I don't know if I should be happy crypto is now not the only thing generating excessive demand during the climate crisis or bothered, but that's a different story.
    If you want to survive AI, you have to understand it. That might mean understanding how it works, or understanding what it does well and where it fails.
    You have to understand the ecosystem. You have to understand that every bit of AI content was created by a person with intent. You have to ask how you can counter that intent.
    And you have to ask what AI can do for you.
    Modern medicine is built upon a metric fucton of moral abuses of the living and the dead. Are you going to give up health care?
    You look at content to learn and draw inspiration. Don't be picky about the source. Just make sure your AdBlock is on and working. AI art business is about collecting views and ad revenue, after all, just like the rest of AI content generation.

    My only recommendation is to not trace it 1 to 1, instead use the Ai art to study and learn anatomy even though it might be off a little (especially with hands).
    If you trace it 1 to 1, then some of the aspects or assets will be messed up poorly and make it very obvious that you traced Ai if you were to post it without context. (Highly doubt anyone would post Ai artworks they traced, unless they’re extremely dumb.)
    And another thing, I would also suggest finding the original creator of that Ai piece(the one who got their artwork stolen), and at least put credit in the piece you are making somewhere as that technically does count as tracing the original artwork but with flaws if it is 1 to 1 tracing. (People might think Im soft for saying this but idc)
    As an artist myself, I personally agree that Ai art is wrong and it is stealing artworks and flawing them, HOWEVER we can use Ai art to study anatomy as well, Example the faces, normally the faces will be correct in anatomy, so however the artwork is stolen, does not mean we cannot learn to improve our selves with studying it. (Not saying to become the hand drawn Ai artist, but like to improve in style. If that makes sense.)

    Fair warning: Wall of text ahead.
    So AI images suck, but also the designs are really cute, and AI images are cool? Seems inconsistent.
    7:49 Lighter peachy skin like two of the three characters you drew for the video? It's as if people just happen to make AI art that has that predisposition, since most anime art is from Japan, which is fairly homogenous, and is reflected in much of their art. Also, at least from my experience with Bing's AI image generator (based on Dall-E 3), it has a fair amount of racial diversity in its image generations. If I had to take a guess, you're just looking in the wrong places.
    12:15 So AI images will never be as good, nor as consistent as human art, so what's there to worry about? And doesn't that somewhat go against what you just said about AI being bound to get better?
    I can tell you why AI image generators are being promoted despite artists, animators, writers and so on being able to produce better quality art, and you already guessed part of the answer, which is greed, as people don't want to spend money they don't want to spend, and AI gives results for far less cost (in some cases basically free). The second part would be speed, since AI makes images much more quickly, and the third part is that artists are not a protected elitist class who are entitled to work for other people's money despite technological advancement. This applied to farm laborers when tractors came along, this applied to human calculators when digital calculators came along, and so on until now it applies to artists. Maybe a bonus part would be sheer ease plus a low skill-cap for beginners, who can make hyper-realistic images with a simple prompt and click of a button upon their first try, compared to requiring years of skill and hours to days of time for equal results through traditional art methods.
    14:30 I think this is an interesting statement. How are they taking your art away when it's you who's making it unavailable? And what about literally anyone who's copied and pasted your art? You didn't care then, so what's different now? If you say they're using it without consent, the same already applied to copying and pasting, and you already think AI images will never be as good as human art anyways, so what's the problem? Also, I'd argue by posting anything on their platforms for free you've given implicit consent for those platforms to do as they see fit with that art. If I put my belongings in someone else's house without specifying to not use them, I have given them implicit consent to use my belongings. That's not to say you shouldn't be able to opt out, you should be able to for any reason you want, but prior to that you put your art in their hands, and unfortunately for the average person the company almost always wins.
    14:59 Kind of true, though if a lack of images were a problem, positive and negative feedback would be a quite viable resort, which is already a part of the process anyways. The images you've deleted have likely already been scraped, so it really only deprives humans that wish to look at it, not the AI.
