I agree with Billy Joel , I can't believe it took so long to induct The Righteous Brothers into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... They were absolutely the greatest duo ever. Better late than never I guess. Thanks 👍 so much for the Post
You can pin that one on Spector, he didn't want his stars including Bill and Bobby in the Hall of Fame, cause they might figure out that they were great without him. After he went to prison, Bill and Bobby along with several others of Phil's artists were inducted.
I REMEMBER BEING IN THE AIR FORCE IN 1965 .... FOR OVER 3 MONTHS I LISTENED TO THE Righteous Brothers AND IMMEDIATELY LOVED THEM ,BUT, THOUGHT THEY WERE BLACK!!!! GREATEST DUET EVER!!!!!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!! In 1965, I only had a car radio!!!!!
Billy Joel has one of the best sense of humors or any musician, try lightening up a little. Most would kill to be as entertaining as Billy, his intro is great!!!!
I don't understand why the Righteous Brothers were not at the front of the line - when they started to induct artists into the Rock & Roll HOF. Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley had everyone beat - they could do it all - and they always sang "live." Not many singers could do that and sound that great night after night. I have been a fan since 1962 !!!! Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley - great singers, great entertainers and most important always gracious gentlemen to us all. God Bless "em ...
Should have been in the Hall of Fame long before Billy Joel. Nothing against Billy Joel but he was still hanging on to his mother's skirts when they were singing and cutting records.
if you really listen, you can hear Billy Joel's love for the Righteous Brothers, I saw them twice in concert, I loved them, and I met Bobby Hatfield back in the 70's - what a nice guy.....miss you Bobby..
I still listen to Hatfield's Unchainted melody to this day. It's a real Olympic feat of singing and he makes it look so effortless. Amazing. This song also has an interesting history. It was from a prisoner's pov thinking of escaping bc he missed his girl so much and weighing that against the consequences. He really missed her.
Billy Joel: one of the most refreshing speakers out there... he's a music nerd, he cares about the guys he's inducting, he KNOWS about the guys he's inducting, and he sounds fresh and fun. He should do this more often
You know what's so heartbreaking. The Righteous Brothers sing Rock & Roll Heaven on The American Bandstand TV Special in 1981 not knowing that many of the folks that were in The Audience would be dead in the next 38 Years James Brown Carl & Dennis Wilson (The Beach Boys), Maurice Williams (Earth Wind & Fire), Teddy Pendergrass and even Bobby Hatfield himself.
Just for the record to all music fans ... Been a fan of The Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield - since 1963. FYI .... Billy Joel is a BIG fan of the RB's to this day, so please understand he is trying to give them a "proper introduction." There is a longer version of this intro that actually cuts back to Bill and Bobby off stage laughing at Billy introducing them. I wish it was included here ... someone deleted it. But it does exist.
Billy Joel was heavily influenced by Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound. When he did Say Goodbye To Hollywood he was paying homage to Be My Baby. In The UK Phil Spector was a major influence on ABBA's Record Producer Michael Tretow, and Xenomania who are now the Hottest UK Record Producing Team who gave Cher her Comeback Smash Believe. Because of them, Cher holds the distinction of having Number One Hits in every single decade since the 1960's.
People who are dissing billy here are clearly musically uneducated . what he was describing the musical influence the righteous brothers had on musicians when they came . he was justifying why they were being inducted which is the job of the inductee . I heard nothing that suggested billy was an arsehole . people have either totally misunderstood what billy was saying or they just hate billy for some reason. I dont think its billy being the prick here
George "Shadow" Morton was also born in Billy's Hometown of Hicksville, Long Island and in later years when he was starting out he got in touch with Ellie Greenwich from Levitham, and with her help he was able to get The Shangri Las into the Girl Group Game. Where they ever inducted.
Okay, I NEVER "got" anything from get down on my knees for you except begging - NO sexual intent. Since I didn't see this until now, this is the first I've heard that insinuation.
Since a woman, Cynthia Weil, wrote the lyrics, I doubt it meant where Billy's mind went. It has the imagery of a knight kneeling before his lady. It's conditional though since that line is followed by if you'd only love me like you used to. If you love me, I'll honor you. By the way, she passed away just a few days ago.
I think that Bllly Joel is next to Brian Wilson Of The Beach Boys one of the biggest and most devoted disciples of Phil Spector. He showed how he was influenced when he did "Say Goodbye To Hollywood". In the UK Phil Spector's Legacy as well as Motown is now a major influence on the New Generation of Record Producers. Xenomania who helped give Cher her comeback Smash Believe was influenced by Phil Spector, as well as Abba's Record Producer Michael Tretow.
Alll he really needed to say "I don't understand why these guys aren't in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame already" and that would've been the perfect induction speech.
You know you should never read from a script if you believe in the music and artist. Billy I think your great but these guys are awesome.......Respect please
Yeah, I quickly scanned through the video, saw they weren't in it and ducked out. I don't care about Billy Joel as a person one way or the other, I just know I've never liked any of his music.
Actually, I shouldn't be so hard on Billy Joel. it was a nice speech, but I could've done without the extraneous stuff at the beginning. And his omission of anything pre-Spector was a little annoying too, since the Moonglow recordings were influential in thier own right, but his warmth and enthusiasm compensated...and I loved his inclusion of the list of duos because The Righteous Brothers certainly belong in a HOF with the likes of those great artists.
I think it was his first appearance after his DUI Car Accident. He's not a person whose comfortable talking in public. New Kids On The Block may get an induction "before" New Edition. Also, The Carpenters, Olivia Newton John, The Fifth Dimension, were never considered either.
@rgbarry1 I agree. Too much side dialogue not related to the event at hand. Maybe billy needs to have a facebook or twitter page where he can rant this stuff off his chest and leave it there.
This was PRE social media dip shit! Wow! What an idiot. You've never seen an induction ceremony where the presenter comes up first and gives a speech about the inductee?
They need to move this place to Memphis where it belongs. Rock was born from Blues in Memphis not Caaaaleveland ohihoho. Do you understand? Yes they had a concert there but it was not the first Rock concert.
Was this tribute to The Righteous Brothers or Bill Joel showing all of us just how big his ego is by going on and on about his personal view. Just make the introduction, introduce the nominee and get the hell off the stage.
Josh M I'm still bitching about this five years later as my Soundgarden is still not inducted. And this year's class of inductees is (as usual) full of "What? WHY?" artists. It seems completely random sometimes.
Imho, what a crappy introduction. Geez, no class Billy Joel on many levels here. And it's Bill MED-LEY, not Bill Med-el-ley. Good Lord, I would have been disappointed for that intro if I was Bill or Bobby. I don't care if Billy is a singer and not a speaker, he could have done a better intro. The comment about 'getting down on my knees' was very poor taste. What a jerk.
I agree with Billy Joel , I can't believe it took so long to induct The Righteous Brothers into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... They were absolutely the greatest duo ever. Better late than never I guess. Thanks 👍 so much for the Post

Agreed. Only Simon and Garfunkel come close.
I’m surprised too Righteous Brothers wonderful!!
If you don't get Billy Joel's humor, you're not from the Northeast. This was a fantastic speech that entertained and informed.
I agree .... Roger C.
Fantastic introduction
Phil specter i heard kept them out.
I’m from Delaware and my wife is from Jersey… we get it boss
Bobby Hatfields voice should’ve been in there 40 years ago
I REMEMBER BEING IN THE AIR FORCE IN 1965 .... FOR OVER 3 MONTHS I LISTENED TO THE Righteous Brothers AND IMMEDIATELY LOVED THEM ,BUT, THOUGHT THEY WERE BLACK!!!! GREATEST DUET EVER!!!!!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!! In 1965, I only had a car radio!!!!!

He's pretty funny here.
Baby baby.... I get down on my knees for you!!!! Sure opened the door for some fun times in the 60's!!! Billy was dead on!!
@cliniccleducator. I never ever thought of that meaning until now. And I grew up in the 60-70s.
I don't understand why the Righteous Brothers were not at the front of the line - when they started to induct artists into the Rock & Roll HOF. Bill said Spector dind’t want them to be inducted
did it ever occur to anyone that the Righteous Brothers might have loved this introduction.
if you really listen, you can hear Billy Joel's love for the Righteous Brothers, I saw them twice in concert, I loved them, and I met Bobby Hatfield back in the 70's - what a nice guy.....miss you Bobby..
Yeah, everyone.x.

mcgurkryans And he's very funny. He's also inducted Sam & Dave and John Mellencamp!!
@@alextownsend4706 and Fats Domino.
That was the best HOF induction intro speech I've ever seen!
I'm Dave from Jamaica but I think Billy Joel is the greatest of all times

Anyone who thinks he is making fun isn't paying attention to his admiration and fond memories of discovering them as a teen.
I remember seeing it also.

Joel couldn’t sing any of the Righteous Brother songs properly.
I agree with you 100%. I'm glad you said that.
You are 100% correct.
I loved every second of it.
George "Shadow" Morton was also born in Billy's Hometown of Hicksville, Long Island and in later years when he was starting out he got in touch with Ellie Greenwich from Levitham, and with her help he was able to get The Shangri Las into the Girl Group Game. Where they ever inducted.
Blue eyed Soul :)
Billy's always right.
Vito and the Salutations did the fantastic doo wop version.
You've clearly never heard an induction into the Rock & Roll H.O.F. before. That's how people generally do it: in a comical, less serious manner
Bobby J
Okay, I NEVER "got" anything from get down on my knees for you except begging - NO sexual intent. Since I didn't see this until now, this is the first I've heard that insinuation.
In 1965 that was risque on the radio. Billy was 16. Everything was about sex.
Since a woman, Cynthia Weil, wrote the lyrics, I doubt it meant where Billy's mind went. It has the imagery of a knight kneeling before his lady. It's conditional though since that line is followed by if you'd only love me like you used to. If you love me, I'll honor you.

Easy guys. He's a musician, not an orator.
Alll he really needed to say "I don't understand why these guys aren't in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame already" and that would've been the perfect induction speech.
Billy Jowl knows singing
Billy forgot Seals and Croft’s.
People are upset about when someone was or wasn't inducted as if this Jann Wenner ego parade means anything.
I hope they were inducted before Hatfield died.
The brothers were inducted just eight months before Bobby passed! So glad he was there for that!
That’s great! I’m glad too, because he really deserved that moment.
You know you should never read from a script if you believe in the music and artist. Billy I think your great but these guys are awesome.......Respect please
Pitty we didn't get to actually see them receiving the award, really don't see the point of this
Yeah, I quickly scanned through the video, saw they weren't in it and ducked out. I don't care about Billy Joel as a person one way or the other, I just know I've never liked any of his music.
ruclips.net/video/j0cs8VA8iFw/видео.html here's the link to that
The R&R HoF's omission of some great artists is a disgrace. And they often IGNORE the popular vote. Anyway, it was a really good speech by Billy.
@rgbarry1 I think that he just wanted to be better prepared.
Actually, I shouldn't be so hard on Billy Joel. it was a nice speech, but I could've done without the extraneous stuff at the beginning. Billy Joel SHOULD NOT have been inducted before the Righteous Brothers. That is ridiculous.
He would agree.
Soul has no color.
He was joking.
WTF?
...........you aren't being serious are you.....

@@thegorn68 People are fucking dumb.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a crock of shit. Billy Joel inducted before the Righteous Brothers is bullshit. Even Billy calls it out.
Josh M I'm still bitching about this five years later as my Soundgarden is still not inducted. And this year's class of inductees is (as usual) full of "What? WHY?" artists. It seems completely random sometimes.
He talked so much the video ended

Billy lost his hair in 4 years ?? Go back to his 1999 induction and he has a full head of hair. There has always been something so phoney about Joel.
Whats with the bald headed guy ? Is he a Righteous Brother ?
