The register and the sound have not been rivaled. And we are denied hearing it because they have not put it on any CD that we could purchase to enjoy. These 2 becoming more and more iconic. It's a kick watching young people react to their biggest performances. Phil Spector could write some awesome music. Shame their live performances seemed to lose that pounding rock feel. I blame that on the band though for not trying to capture that essential groove.

    • @hallieharker4384
      @hallieharker4384 Год назад +1

      It would be kinda hard for their ten piece band to do that, though. When Phil Spector went into the studio to make their records, he employed about 50 musicians, I'm guessing, in total, including the Wrecking Crew. If memory serves, You've Lost That Loving Feeling had three pianists and three bassists, just for starters, plus an entire string section and a backing choir. It'd be hard (and financially disastrous, I think) to take a group of that size on tour.

    They were actually discovered in San Francisco when they were performing at Navy Bases and the Audience who were predominately Black would clap and say "That's Righteous Brothers" and the rest is History. What set them apart was that they were the first White Act that helped epitomize Blue Eyed Soul that was coined by a Philly DJ. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is next to "Stairway To Heaven" the most frequently played son in Music. It was written by the Husband/Wife Team of Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil that Phil Spector produced. Then they recorded 'Soul & Inspiration" both of which went to Number One but they didn't work with Phil Spector on that one. They would eventually break up in the 1970's but Bobby fell on hard times, he gave up his share of "Unchained Melody" which was a Standard. He made a major mistake because he didn't get paid when Ghost was released. In 1981 they reunited to Sing Rock & Roll Heaven on The American Bandstnad TV Special where they paid homage to Elvis, John Lennon & Jim Morrison amongst others. What was so eerie was that so many folks who performed on the show would later die. Teddy Pendergrass after leaving Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Maurice White of Earth Wind & Fire, Carl & Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys. Now alot of Young People are discovering them and are blown away. In the ending Credits you see Merrill Shindler's Name but he was the announcer for America's Top Ten starring Casey Kasem.

      Marines from the El Toro Marine base in Orange County California attend their shows at a club near the base. They are the ones who started calling them righteous brothers. Edited to add: They both gave up rights to a number of songs, in the late '60s, in a deal with a record company to finally get royalties they were owed. They didn't realize until some 20 years or so later that it wasn't such a good deal.
