Great video Dan. I'm going to be fishing a couple of irrigation reservoirs this summer that are severely drawn down. Any structure (weeds, wood, etc.) are going to be high and dry. What would you look for in the absence of that kind of structure to find summer crappie?
I had the same scenario here like 8 years ago and fishing was fantastic because all the fish were contraindicated to a few spots. look for deep holes in the main river channel.
@@dominatefishing9641 Dan, I took your suggestion and found some crappie on the edge of the old river channel suspended at 12 to 18 ft in water 55 ft deep. i caught a few but they moved and I couldn't find them again. Was wondering though, will these suspended fish move inshore to feed at some point during the day? If so, will they likely stay about the same depth?
@@bruce8663 nice work on finding the fish! they may move shallower in the evening through the night and into the early morning. its also possible they will stay out suspended feeding for an extended period. those suspended crappie are always on the move so you have to stick with them and keep finding them. good work!
I'm here in PA. This past weekend i was up on Lake Sayer. We were killing the crappie use 1 in. Gulp minnows chartreuse. We fished under a fishing pier and some downed trees. It was a blast. We fish out of kayaks. I have used a lot of the tip from your videos! I just want to say they work great even out of kayaks.
Thanks Dan.....This vid was very informative for me...I will be getting more into Crappie fishing as the summer closes....what to visually look for on the water (weeds, submerged logs, trees, is good to know along with what to look on the electronics....nice vid...keep it up
Great video. I like to fish a river for pike, but there are some huge crappie in it. There are plenty of downed trees. Should I focus on trees with more or less current running through them?
I love fishing rivers...they can grow some of the biggest fish! its hard to say... Ive caught a lot of fish in both current and light current... but light current has been better for me. it is much easier to fish less current and it seems like the crappie really stack up when there is some current but its light.
Underwater structure. You can also try trolling crankbaits and looking for rogue schools that way. Otherwise I would recommend 15 ft deep or less on structure. It's not a perfect science but at least that'll get you a high percentage of getting into fish
Cool video. Thanks. If you could only start with one rod for pitching and casting 1/16 ounce jigs under a slip bobber, which would it be? 6’6 light fast, 6’9 ultra light fast or 7’ light xtra fast(namely st croix)? Thank you in advance: looking for the rod that gives me good hooksets but soft enough to play the fish without loosing it.
thanks man, I like long rods for bobber fishing, you can get a long sweeping hook set to help take up the slack line you get with bobber fishing. I would go with the 7' light xtra fast st croix. I also like that rod for a variety of other techniques... I like a 7' rod for most fishing situations...
I don't normally critique a video, but I have a 3 comments on yours. 1. I am not from your part of the country, where I am from a crib is something for a baby or toddler. I am assuming that a crib to you must mean a brush pile, if not then I do not know what it is. 2. I am hard of hearing so I were earphones/headset, and your video has a few very distracting extraneous noises, very hard on someone wearing headphones. 3. Saying the words "You Know" is just a filler while you get your thoughts together, same as the old way of saying Uhh between statements. It is very hard to break yourself of saying that, I know, and my Dad finally broke me by constantly interrupting me saying No I don't know. I am just saying these so you can make better videos in the future. Overall I did like your video and hope to see more in the future. Thanks, Tom.
Super helpful video, thank you for taking the time to go out and give real examples!
YES YES now you need to show what type of rig won't get you snagged in all that cover..
Thx man you totally changed my perspective
Show as yours boat and setup.
Keep up good work
Great Video man!!! Keep them coming👍

@@dominatefishing9641 Thanks for the reply Dan, I'll definitely check for those areas.

My only comment will be that the plural of Crappie is Crappie.
A "crappie crib" is like an MTV Crib, built underwater out of life size "Lincoln Logs"...
haha.. right on man!
great vid mane keep up the good work u have haters due to you doing work and them doing nothing . Ez to understand you boss
thanks man! appreciate the support!!

The plural is crappie not crappies. Just FYI.
That stringy weed is Sativa😂😂😂
thanks man, I knew someone would have the name!
What is a CRIB ?
a crib is like a brush shelter.
What part of the country are you fishing at?
I fishing in Wisconsin... where do you fish?
what about res that have no deep structure
is there an old river channel?
