    Great video as always Richard! I've been having some of the best crappie fishing of my life on the coosa by the Jordan lake dam and on the Alabama River in Montgomery. Trying to use different weights and jigs, but casting a 1/8 oz black and chartreuse tube is my confidence. Do you fish down here at all? keep up the great work, love your videos!

    how to locate crappie almost ANY TIME of the year.
    cut down cedar trees
    get equal amount of cinder blocks
    tie cedars to cinder blocks at base
    take cedar trees to desired fishing area
    drop anchored trees in desired fishing area in zig zag pattern at appropriate depths.
    fish will immediately begin to shelter and nest ( egg laying ) in and near the cedars.
    catch more fish than any human could possibly eat..

      @@justinsigmon1878 i prefer crappy and largemouth fishing . this design regardless of the trees/ scrub used creates a breeding / hunting ground for the fish. even if you never fish the area - it still establishes a breeding and hunting field and the fish will repopulate much more quickly. enjoy.

    Great video. I have seen a few of your crappie fishing videos. you were all nearby the bridge columns during the summer. I started crappie fishing a few weeks ago. I had a lot of hits during the spring, but got less and less as the temperature rises. I fished on a fishing pier that does not go very deep. 8 feet at the most. Do you have any other areas that you would go beside a bridge column during the summer? I do not have a boat, and I would love to keep doing crappie throughout the summer. Thanks!

    • @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
      @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine  7 лет назад +1

      Crappie can be caught from the bank in the summer provided the water is deep enough and their is available forage such a shad. It's alot harder to catch crappie (outside of spawn during spring). Crappie tend to go deeper in the summer so bank fishing can be especially hard during summer. I have been challanged by a viewer to catch some from the bank so I should upload that soon! I will try to get into a deeper explaination on how i do it when I upload it Because Even at the moment I don't know how I'm going to aproach it LOL. Thank you so much for watching hong pan!

    great video as always! how do you choose the color of the lure for the summer? is it trial and error every day or are there certain colors you start with and move on from there?

    • @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
      @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine  7 лет назад +1

      I choose my colors based on the clarity of the water and the weather. In my opinion in clear water natural colors such as shad colors or bluegill colors seem to be more effective. In dingy water caused by excessive rain fall, I use colors that are more visible to the fish like chartruse and jigs that have red or pink in them. Thanks for watching Jase!!

    Richard I'm going to chime in again. You mention shad. Are they schooled up or individual shad? Do you find them on the thermocline? Do you see the thermocline on the fish finder? The shad where I fish seem to school in huge schools at different depths. Wish I lived close to the two lakes you fish because you share just where the fish are found at different times of the year which makes the search for the crappies much easier. Great videos with a bit of humor. By the way, I've been fishing since I was 2 years old, ha!!!

    • @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
      @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine  7 лет назад

      When I fish vertical structure such as bridge columns i'm only looking for the thermocline their beside the columns Or how deep the shad are running. Usually I'll fish a couple ft higher in the water column then where the shad are becaue crappie always feed up.

    As Always , another good video. In the summer, I see people pulling crank baits or jigs out the back of the boat for crappie. Are they fishing for scattered suspended crappie or schools near structure? Your successful technique today is totally different . What are the conditions that would make either or both techniques successful? Thanks

    • @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
      @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine  7 лет назад

      I think Both techniques can be successful at any time because their a different patterns for crappie at any given time. Even on the same day you could find several different patterns crappie will use. Yes your right about the crank baits they are used for scattered crappie over creek channels and drop offs. Thanks for waching Ronald!

    Well I'm from down here in Tallahassee Florida and fishing lake Talquin ,most of our fish caught even from the docks can be any where from 12 to 16 inches ! Minnow and cork anywhere from three to 5 feet deep . Black or white crappie. 10 inches size limit . 25 fish minimum. This is a year round fish spot . And plenty on strippers but , I wish we had more white bass ! They are not being caught with size to much . Plenty on big channel cats though . Shad are running in very big schools all the time . Even more so in the winter . Look us up and come try us out , I bet your fishing show would be off the hook !

    Mr. Gene nice video! I too have a passion for Crappie AKA Sac-a-lait LOL. I was catching some slabs the other day in 89 degree water 7' down. That's unusual for mid summer I normally don't see fish that size till fall/winter. I just started videoing my Crappie trips and want to do some on my technique like yours but it's so different across the country. 4 hours north my buddy uses a completely different technique and baits. About half the fish I catch down south have that black line. Once again nice video and good luck. You just picked up a subscriber.

    That looked like it was a struggle to contain Richard Gene. Next time don't fight it!! You could very easily do yourself an injury!!

    Buddy I'd love to get together and do some fishing with you. I live in rainbow city but Ive got some property on wiess near Pruitts. I'm just now getting into crappie fishing vertical jigging. I trophy catfish for blues and flatheads and travel for tournaments for them just about everywhere.

    Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I especially enjoy your explanations on how you rig your baits and tie your knots. Sub’d for sure. 👍🏻

    Thank you for this video. I love the great state of Alabama waters. I live in Georgia and travel to Alabama to fish. I am still learning how to fish (arent we all lol). You are a very funny man that cares for the fishery and keeping it stable. I would be honored to have you in my boat any time sir. Tight lines sir. God bless

    Richard,
    I enjoy your videos.
    You are using a size 6 sickle hook in most of your crappie fishing videos, correct? When you use a different size hook than a size 6, what size do you switch to and why? Thanks!

    Richard you said you love trying different lakes, Douglas lake in East Tn. has huge large mouth and huge crappie. If you ever come up we have bass pro shop and a lot of attractions so bring your wife and grandkids. I'd love to get in a boat with you and learn your technic. So plan a vacation and bring that new boat

      Thank you Allen! I plan on doing sauger videos later on this year. As far as walleye we really don't have any here in the ten. river. Every once in a while one is caught but its rare. Thank you for watching!

    I’ve noticed in all of Weiss lake when it’s super hot, you can always drop all the way to the bottom and reel up about 2 feet and catch em. I always start 2 feet from the bottom and work my way up in the water column. They prefer 55-58 degree water

    You know you're a good crappie fisherman when you can find them in the summer months! Have you ever fished any of the lower lakes on the Coosa, such as Mitchell or Lay Lake?

    I finish this exact same spot just one column over those solid columns and I didn't catch nothing but a Coosa River bass like he did I saw it Richard Jean fishing them other columns yesterday I guess I should have nosy my butt over there and finish them too and tried what he was trying Hey should have been nosy and went over there and done it
