This guy is cool. His calm voice is making me wanting to go crappie fishing. I have seen videos of people yelling and screaming but this is just cool and calm.
LOVE this video especially since i havent had much success fishing from my dock this summer! love seeing how the fish are actually responding, love your advice...cant wait to see how it works 😊
Informative, definitely some things to try. I troll a lot for them just with tube jigs and a slow troll. The reservoirs around me that we fish might get some vegetation but I'm sure its speratic as the water level changes all the time. One of the ones we fish, they jack the water level up so much, I think it really hurt the fishing and spawn. I have not been hearing any real good reports this year at that one. In winter they drop the level to basically a river channel, and I feel they wait too long to let it fill in. They need to keep it at a better level, and it could be done if they would pay attention to the neighboring reservoirs on not dumping too much into the river causing a flood.
i use a 1/32 oz. fish hawk wahoo popeye feather jigs and a 1/32 oz. Northland fishing tackle mimic minnow Fry's. they might be lite tackle but they have great action + great colors too.
Excellent details you will help people enjoy their day by the information you give me a true Sportsman thank you for this video thank you for being you keep it coming
This could explain why I haven't found them with the new electronics. My lake is shallow 10ft mud bottom with a couple creeks feeding it. Theirs not much cover (trees stumps) but there is a ton of hydrilla along the edges that I can't see into
Thanks Larry, we appreciate your time. We're going to be making some fresh crappie videos similar to this in the near future so keep tuning in. Let us know if you're interested in seeing something specific.
Great voice , trying to fine crappie in Lovesick Lake in Ontario Canada, used to be all cabbage and cottage tail weeds . Now we have invasive weed that mate over large flats, just search daily with no luck so far. Need to watch more of your videos. Thanks tons. Looking to buy a Humminbird Helix 7 Chris mega SI G3N. But is $ 1100 plus 13% taxes, also wish to purchase the i-Pilot kit for my Minn Kota. Power Drive V2 . Boat is a Lund WC- 16’ DXL, 30hp Yamaha 2 stroke engine.
Joe, thanks for taking the time to watch. Even those thick matted weeds have to terminate at some depth so you can fish them the same way. That outside weed line will still be a corridor for crappie. As for the Helix 7, If you are able to purchase one I would highly recommend it. Side imaging is a great tool for finding both crappie and those hard weed lines or transition zones. I'm not sure about the Canadian dollar amount but a Helix 7 with CHIRP, GPS and SI+ should only run you about $600-700 bucks US. wired2.fish/HumminbirdHELIX7
Every Croppie and every person has the favorite spot where the fish And angler goes at any given Waterway So the explanation is diverse and complex at the same time But I understand what you’re saying
Nice video and baits. Summer fishing in Va. crappie are 15'-25' of water not on pads or shallow water. This must be up north. This would be spring fishing April maybe.
I wish VMC would make a higher quality safety pin spinner. Give it a high quality swivel and willow and Colorado blades. As well as gold and silver. Maybe even use some king of fast connect system like on the strike king tungsten football heads.
Chatterbait Flashback Mini, single hook spoons and spinners, Rebel Micro minnows and Road Runners. Some micro hard baits are quite costly to buy. However, using light line and costly lures is bound to end badly fishing cover. If you change out trebles to light wire inline hooks you lose fewer lures and still catch plenty of Crappies.
I would love to have some grass or weed cover in my home lake. Reservoirs in the South don't have much of that for sure. Looks like a desert on the bottom. Hard to get used to having fished natural lakes for so long.
They’ll be on outer weedlines through September until turnover and then start mixing into the basins. Fall is an awesome time to catch them. Once weeds start to die they can be more concentrated on the last remaining weeds until they push out to the deep basins and inside turns.
Yes they do. Maybe not so much in summer as they are heavy and I’d rather keep the bait floating through the weeds slowly. Have had good success in fall vertical jigging with blade baits for sure thou.
Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
Its always hard to decide during spring... do you go for the crappie spawn or do you go for walleye runs???? Im watching summer time crappie fishing......
You'll be busy reaching in the minnow bucket, struggling to hook the minnow and end up casting it off while I pile in a few more on any of these baits. Like I say in the video thou, something to be said about a cork and minnow or plastic once you find the fish. For me, it's faster to use baits I can move quickly on a horizontal plane to find fish. Bobbers are fun but I also like feeling those bites. Thanks for the comment! Happy fishing!
Just a different aspect of the game. Adds a whole other set of variables to the game. It isn’t always necessary but it can be fun and efficient to use electronics.
According to the Cambridge dictionary, the plural of crappie can either be crappie or crappies. We’ve noticed the difference tends to align with the region. Much like its pronunciation. (Crapee VS Crawpee)
Thanks Jay😂 I probably drink too much coffee. Consequently it doesn’t work any more.. trying to be concise. I’m not an in your face fisherman. I just catch em.
Wow u want summer crappie use a slip float and a minnow find the deepest part of the water and maybe they will bite none of this is nothing but luck and talking about lures btw its crappie not crap e
Deepest part in this particular lake is around 60 feet.. Wont't be corkin over that mid-summer. Crappies love weeds and they run, and run, and run em in the summer. In small ponds, when temperatures start to get extreme on the warmer end, crappies most definitely vacate to the deepest water they can find. Looking for cooler, more oxygenated layers. Again, thats the case in small ponds or shallow lakes. Weeds provide cover, oxygen and shade so crappies feel right at home. It's not luck, you can find them if you know where to start and how to go about it. These are just a few lures I have found to be efficient for covering water quickly in and around vegetation.

Could you tell us the lake you were on? Im in NW Wis
A lot of lakes in that latitude will set up with similar habitat! Pick a lake and see if you can identify the summer crappie holding spots.
Everyone prolly already knows about the bobby garland baby shad swim-R. we have lots of luck with it for crappie.
I mean do u have to have a scuba diver to get that footage?
