Love these catfish videos. I know you're mainly a crappie guy but as mainly a catfisherman myself, these videos are always helpful. thanks a lot man!🤙🏾
A couple of tough tussles! I was using a Gulp artificial leech to try and entice some big bluegills a couple of weeks ago. I happened to see a big female channel cat swimming next to the dock I was fishing, and I dangled the leech next to her head. Sho' nuff, she turned her head and snapped up that leech. Immediately, I said, "Uh-oh! Now what?" I was using a 6'10" light-action rod with 4-lb mono. Just like RGTFM, all I could do was adjust the drag and hang on! It took about 10 minutes; but I got her. Not sure how heavy, but she was pushing 24" long. WOO!
Richard I got stuck by a bullhead ( second fish ) that size last summer in North Carolina in the side of my hand...about an inch deep. Good lord it hurt so bad. Like my hand was hit with a hammer. 1 hour of the worst pain in my life. Sore for a few weeks. Never be that careless again. 46 years old been catching cats since I was 10. Never stuck. Holy cow it hurts.
It is always the smaller ones that get you - especially with Channels. Last time I went fishing one cut a half inch long scrape in my thumb and hurt like a paper cut.
@marshallgeorge3819 yeah little ones are sharper. The spine was damn near in my bone. He was on the dock. I went to grab him and he flopped out at the same time...hurt like hell.
growing up in Oregn, we lived off bullheads. easy to catch, and if you got tired of cleaning you keep them alive in a rain barrel. clean em, skin em a little corn meal and deep fry. now I will admit bullheads from farm ponds or muddy creeks are not especially delicious. clear water cats are a whole different story.
Ive eaten a few bull head back in the day. They're ok but id much rather have a blue or channel or flathead. Blue are my favorite catfish. Crappie are my favorite fish altogether
I've learned a modified uniknot is yes even better than a palomor knot. Saw how to tie it on Tyler Bergers fishing channel. He even had done tests to prove the strength of the different knots. He even done a test on a palimor knot and the modified uniknot, which was proven the strongest. He used braid, but the modified uni knot is great even on the monofilament line. It's now my new go-to. I now tie this knot a modified knot for a dropshot, which is exectionally strong. The knot i tie for a dropshot is not the typical palimor knot.
Thank you Richard for the great info and video just like always! You are no doubt the best fisherman I have ever seen, that is why I always share your videos on fb so we can help more people catch fish for supper! God bless you and moma sue always! 😇
Got on a donkey this evening on the spro frog 🐸 she broke the hook where the shank meets the eyelet about a 1/4 inch down 🤯🤯. I still managed to land her. Also I was wearing my @Richard Gene the fishing machine shirt my wife and kids got me for Father's Day which means a lot to me 😁. "Go fishn when ya can cause it's good fer ya"~Richard Gene the fishing machine. Thanks for the great content Richard. I love the shirt its great quality and good luck apparently
Another great video!! I look forward to your videos. I cant tell you how much I've learned from watching your channel. I'm a better fisherman thanks to you. God bless and keep the videos coming!!!
God bless you, Richard. I usually watch your videos at work while on lunch, and even though I can't fish very often, your videos almost make me feel like I am.
Hey, Mr. Gene I’ve been fishing for exactly a year now and I’ve been watching your videos for most of the time. I’ve learned so much from you in so little time, enough to where I’ve taught a few things to some of my friends who’ve been fishing since they were kids! I really appreciate and enjoy watching you fish. Bless you, sir.
In the spring I catch 7 lb channel Catfish on almost every trip. I caught 3 bigger than that at least one time &:that was in 3 different cities on the river. Nice catch!
Them Bullheads are better eating than channel cats, to me anyhow, I never cared much about channels, as far as eating that is. Used to fish a couple of different holes that were full of black bullheads, and knew of a couple of different ponds that had brown bullheads in them and they get or were bigger than the black ones, actually one was a pond and the other was a gravel pit but when I first saw the brown bullheads I thought they was small flatheads, they were colored and marked like a flathead. Anyways, rock on Richard Gene, rock on 🤘.
Love the videos richard I told a friend other day I cought a 10 pound yellower cat he got all excited said where did you catch it. The. I told him it was behind the barn taking a crap
Richard has the ability to transport you back in time, when life was more simple.
I miss the good old days
Life is still simple IF you want and make it to be~
That’s why he’s one of my favorite fishing RUclipsr. The kind of guy you’d want to kick back, crack open a miller high life, and fish with.
@jimmiemacd3603 Miller? I'd like to crack open a bottle Johnny Walker green label~
@@jimmiemacd3603 the champagne of beers
Greatest freshwater fisherman on RUclips. 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
He knows his way around the salt too. He was born and raised in the gulf.
Hands down. Lots of guys are about the baits and what they can sell. Richard would fish with a stick and rope if he had to.
Love these catfish videos. I know you're mainly a crappie guy but as mainly a catfisherman myself, these videos are always helpful. thanks a lot man!🤙🏾
Love your videos and can't wait to try this way to catfish on my lake!

My Grandpa loved eating bullhead. My grandma would pan fry them with the pan fish we caught. Worth a try.

Nice box of panfish, Richard!

some fine fish sandwiches...!
God bless ALL of us!

.....another blessing, from the Lord above!!
Nice to see a bullhead. I spent my youth going after them. My Mamma cooked them up and they were great.
Just found this channel and im hooked! Simple and basic old style fishing.
Hey Richard, most people don't know, but bullheads taste better than channel cats, in my opinion.

Richard, that boat house matched your hat! I think that’s a sign you need to make them an offer for that property.
God bless you, Richard. I usually watch your videos at work while on lunch, and even though I can't fish very often, your videos almost make me feel like I am.
Been watching since before the first live stream & never get disappointed.
Bullhead are delicious, I once was fishing for bass in a small lake using shiners and caught about a dozen.
If this were the 17 or 1800's Richard would be the kind of guy that Indians would leave him alone. Tell stories about him.
The coincidence that his hat and that boat slip has same team logo was neat.
I learned something about channel cats today. Thanks
Love these catfish videos !
The Machine does it again!! Another great videoRichard, God bless you and Diane.
Thanks, Richard, for another great day fishing.

I don't fish with cut bait much - does it float when you are fishing weightless with it? This technique looks really fun !
Caught bigger ones in the L. Mich harbors in Chicago and Indiana harbors. Just sayin. Thank you for the blessing.
