this honestly breaks my heart because my boyfriends previous girlfriend lied about him sexually assualting her there were two witnesses that said it didnt happen and she even admitted he didnt do it to her friend and now he isnt aloud to see his bestfriend and the closet person to him and his mom doesnt want him in town. its heartbreaking just because shes a teenage girl they believe it.

amnesia's actually a really common side effect of trauma. i didn't get it either, my memories of what happened are pretty high-def, but a lot of people who experience a traumatic event can end up with jumbled recollections that their brain has difficulty processing and thus gets kinda "stuck" on.
I was sexually abused when I was 15, I’m 19 now and part of me suppressed part of it. I can not remember details like I used to. Sometimes they come, sometimes they go. It makes my anxiety hell cause sometimes out of nowhere I remember it all, sometimes i don’t remember part of it. But thing is, after 4 years, I was just brave enough to tell 3 ppl. I don’t go around gossiping about it or detailing it, cause it makes me feel guilty/nauseous.

I mean, I'd like to believe Melanie is innocent, because innocent until proven guilty. I've pretty much remained neutral. I listen to her music, and I still will. This hasn't really phased my love for her art.
I do believe Melanie, primary because Timothy has admitted to having a mental illness that alters her perception of events that occur in her life. (And I have heard of other people tell stories when living with a similar or same illness and how completely off their recollections were.) Aside Mel’s Corner has done a good job filtering through much of the “evidence” provided, and I do believe they touch on the BPD issue.
I never really believed Timothy. At first I kinda went ‘oh shit’ but I actually looked into it because I like Martinez and I do not condone rape or molestation but I don’t condone false accusations either. I feel like some don’t realize the actual damage someone can do by false accusations. I had a friend who one of her best friends was accused of rape and everyone had turned their backs on him and nobody believed him and he had taken his life within months. My poor friend was devastated and the girl continued on saying she was mourning him. Rape is not ok in any way, shape or form but neither is false accusations just because you want attention.
I think Timothy didn’t take this accusation to court bc she knows that she’ll have to pay for the entire investigation if it’s found to be false. Meaning that if the police, fbi, whomever is investigating her case finds that the case is made up she’ll have to pay for the money the police spent on the investigation. So she wouldn’t take it to court bc she knows she’s wrong.

When I was about eight, I was in second grade, I had a little boy grope me for awhile in front of multiple students or teachers, none of them noticed and I was really scared of making a scene and standing up for my self. I told my mom a month after it happened and it took so long for her to believe me. It's most likely like this because of people like Heller and others. It makes me sick knowing someone would lie about that serious of a crime for attention. I hope she goes to prison for what she did, without probation.

Coming from a Melanie Martinez fan of two and a half years, I initially was neutral and posted evidence for both sides on my fan account (melsmelatonin). After digging deeper and finding out about Timothy dropping previous close friends, about her BPD and how her story changed multiple times, I just couldn't believe her anymore. People who hear about the situation just automatically believe the accuser without bothering to dig into it themselves and making a valid opinion. Timothy is also coming for other artists now, making me believe she generally just wants attention as everything with Mel has died down to an extent. There is so much more to the story that people don't analyse and I'm sick of it.

Tbh I was never really a Melanie fan. Like I knew some songs but I didn't really care much about her and I didn't really go searching for them or anything and I mean that in the least shitty way possible. But it really pissed me off that people really believed Timothy without even trying to find out the story themselves. I mean I can barely get the words out when I've talked about my sexual assault experience beyond saying that it happened. I couldn't imagine recalling as many details as she did and being able to say them out loud... edit: I am not going to rewrite my original comment, but I just want to say, I don't mean to belittle anyone who reacts different than what I have experienced. my first comment was written too hastily and comes across in a way I didn't intend. Even if it was decades ago they still can’t talk about it or when they do they never go into detail like she did and they’re usually crying during/after. I can say from my experience I’d be uncomfortable going into detail. I didn’t tell anyone about my sexual assault until almost 2 and half years later. (Because of therapy). I’m not really saying she’s lying but it seems like the logical thing to believe.

hey, this comment is solely to educate people more on bpd. i have bpd (borderline personality disorder) and there are different types. i'm a 'quiet type'. usually people with bpd externalise their feelings outwards but i internalise and avoid lashing out on people. so guys, please don't assume we're all bad. like i know it's generally the case that certain negative characteristics do apply to people with bpd but it's so freaking hard to deal with it and tell people about my mental condition when there is an awful stigma around it. i hate it when people with bpd put a bad name on it. it just SUCKS so much for the rest of us.

It's quite a reach to say someone with borderline personality disorder is going to lie about a rape just because they have mental health issues. Its important to be objective here and look at all options. Regardless of if the accusation is true. For example it's entirely possible that fear of abandonment could contribute to being pressured into sex with your best friend because you dont want to lose them. Having bpd doesn't automatically make you a liar or make you twist things although there might people with bpd who do that. It is quite insensitive how you handled that piece of information.
I have BPD and if you go untreated or you don't respond to treatment, it is very likely to act out of rage, act impulsively, and lie for attention, especially if the BPD is severe enough. I have done some very crappy things to ex-friends and ex-partners before I had a very intensive course of DBT, and in those moments I felt powerful and like I had control, and I'm sure that in her mind this is what she has to do to get "revenge." I have the illness, I have these thoughts and desires but through treatment I know how to control myself. I don't think how she talked about BPD was disrespectful at all. She could be a terrible person AND have BPD which has contributed to this scenario. It's very well known for people with BPD to lie to get their way. If she felt abandoned or felt that the friendship was beneficial to her fame, AND she was in a bad place, the potential to act out of emotion and anger is astronomical.

It’s uncomfortable, I don’t like going into detail, and I certainly wouldn’t spend all day every day talking about it. I initially supported Timothy because it’s hard to doubt a rape victim. I followed her on Twitter and I even talked to her a bit, and basically all she wanted to talk about was Melanie. It’s like she was fixated on her and obsessed in a very unhealthy way. It was obvious that she was truly enjoying all of the attention she was getting, and small details in her story were changing. I got really tired of seeing her attack people on Twitter that doubt her and I didn’t want to constantly see all of her uncomfortable tweets about Melanie, which she would post 24/7. I unfollowed her back in January. I assumed that she would calm down about all the rape dialogue after a few weeks, but a few days ago I checked her Twitter again and she’s still talking about it every day. I get that she has BPD but that really has nothing to do with the fact that she’s extremely obsessed with Melanie. She needs to stay away from social media for a bit and get some help.
If you know anything about the relationships between victims and their abuser - you would understand that often times the obsession is a normal state and is very common amongst victims worldwide.
timothy having an unhealthy obsession with melanie isn't really proof she was lying, considering I was obsessed with my abuser years after the abuse, feeling like I was useless and missing a part of myself without the abuser.
I suffer from borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, reactive attachment disorder and ptsd. But I'd never stoop so low as to accuse someone of rape. I've lost friends who found it too exhausting to be around me because all I wanted was to be near them I couldn't be by myself. I was scared of being alone and still am. It's hard. You see things in a completely different way than others. You try too hard. I have irrational fears that result in anger triggered by a simple sentence or look that my brain deems offensive even if after the fact I don't understand why. But there were one or two times where I fucked up and was either too scared or too proud to apologize and admit I was wrong but I did anyways because I can't handle knowingly hurting people I've chosen to cling to.
Please do not think i am dragging you at all, what i am about to say is in no way meaning to offend you, but please make up your mind on which you are suffering from, bipolar and borderline are on the complete opposite spectrum and you cant suffer from both considering bpd is your emotions changing so often and bipolar is staying in a single emotional state for long periods of time. As someone who has bpd it just kinda messes with me alittle bit when people say this because it also makes you look uneducated/not really diagnosed for it.
People react and do things differently. Just because two people are diagnosed BPD or bipolar, that doesn't mean they will do the same thing. Every individual is different.
I remember watching this video when I was 11/12 and it gaslit me into believing Melanie was innocent. I've devoted so much to Melanie and I wish i never saw this video as a kid. Maybe if I hadn't, I would've believed the allegations back then like I do now. You single-handedly manipulated an entire generation to demonize people with BPD and to blame victims.

That was literally my first thought. It's one person's word and it doesn't prove anything. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, doesn't mean it did. But she's innocent until proven guilty :^)

But at the end of the day, I'd take the chance of believing the victim bc the rate for false accusations of rape is 2-10% of all rape/sexual assault reports (and that's the people who did report, and also the victims who didn't go through with the trial because it was too hard or not financially stable are usually put under the false accusation %, so). though today I do love Melanie and I have since her first album, so yeah. this is coming from a stan.

I'm not on anyones side of this story but your statements arent exactly true. I was also sa'd and couldnt say no. I also didnt press charges on the girl nor am I angry at her. I'm simply upset and hurt, not everyone does the sames things as you when sa'd. You arent everyone. The way you talked about this was extremely insensitive.
Also "borderlines" can struggle with explaining these situations or talking about it at all. It doesnt always end up as "oh she lied" she's struggling mentally and that could take a toll on why she seems like she's lying.

@@morbidhime I also agree. My father has bipolar disorder and had attempted 3 suicides when my mom tried to leave him. He also wasn’t really taught how to be a good dad, and usually my mom and dad would hit my older sister, they did it less after me and my little sister came. But it still happened occasionally. And he had once gotten me an unprescribed adhd medication as I usually didn’t focus, and I was kept in the dark about it. The only explanation being is it was put in my food in the morning. He also took my sister with him one time and she hadn’t eaten since she was with him. He is doing a lot better now though, he’s in florida and has been on medication for it for a few years now. But I’m happy he’s doing better now, and he’s doing really well for himself and is trying to be more of a father figure. And I can’t wait to go and visit him again. But I do agree that not everyone with this disorder will act like this, but it is still very much a thing that can happen. 😊

Just a reminder to people that if someone describes their rape in graphic detail, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a lie. Some people can handle talking openly about horrible events and don't always need the same amount of time to be able to talk about it, but it doesn't mean they're callous or lying for not being too upset to speak. It's taken me over a decade to be able to talk about my brother's suicide without crying, but that doesn't make his death any less real or painful for me just because I can talk about it finally.

I'm one of the people who would talk a lot. I can describe my own suicide attempt in graphic detail without getting emotional but I don't tell many people about it because I don't want them to 1) think less of me or 2) treat me differently.

amnesia's actually a really common side effect of trauma. i didn't get it either, my memories of what happened are pretty high-def, but a lot of people who experience a traumatic event can end up with jumbled recollections that their brain has difficulty processing and thus gets kinda "stuck" on.
I was sexually abused when I was 15, I’m 19 now and part of me suppressed part of it. I can not remember details like I used to. Sometimes they come, sometimes they go. It makes my anxiety hell cause sometimes out of nowhere I remember it all, sometimes i don’t remember part of it. But thing is, after 4 years, I was just brave enough to tell 3 ppl. I don’t go around gossiping about it or detailing it, cause it makes me feel guilty/nauseous.

I do believe Melanie, primary because Timothy has admitted to having a mental illness that alters her perception of events that occur in her life. (And I have heard of other people tell stories when living with a similar or same illness and how completely off their recollections were.) I never really believed Timothy. At first I kinda went ‘oh shit’ but I actually looked into it because I like Martinez and I do not condone rape or molestation but I don’t condone false accusations either. I feel like some don’t realize the actual damage someone can do by false accusations. I had a friend who one of her best friends was accused of rape and everyone had turned their backs on him and nobody believed him and he had taken his life within months. My poor friend was devastated and the girl continued on saying she was mourning him. Rape is not ok in any way, shape or form but neither is false accusations just because you want attention.
I think Timothy didn’t take this accusation to court bc she knows that she’ll have to pay for the entire investigation if it’s found to be false. Meaning that if the police, fbi, whomever is investigating her case finds that the case is made up she’ll have to pay for the money the police spent on the investigation. So she wouldn’t take it to court bc she knows she’s wrong.

When I was about eight, I was in second grade, I had a little boy grope me for awhile in front of multiple students or teachers, none of them noticed and I was really scared of making a scene and standing up for my self. Coming from a Melanie Martinez fan of two and a half years, I initially was neutral and posted evidence for both sides on my fan account (melsmelatonin). After digging deeper and finding out about Timothy dropping previous close friends, about her BPD and how her story changed multiple times, I just couldn't believe her anymore. People who hear about the situation just automatically believe the accuser without bothering to dig into it themselves and making a valid opinion. Timothy is also coming for other artists now, making me believe she generally just wants attention as everything with Mel has died down to an extent. There is so much more to the story that people don't analyse and I'm sick of it.

i have bpd (borderline personality disorder) and there are different types. i'm a 'quiet type'. usually people with bpd externalise their feelings outwards but i internalise and avoid lashing out on people.
so guys, please don't assume we're all bad. like i know it's generally the case that certain negative characteristics do apply to people with bpd but it's so freaking hard to deal with it and tell people about my mental condition when there is an awful stigma around it.
i hate it when people with bpd put a bad name on it. it just SUCKS so much for the rest of us.
I honestly think people with BPD feel a lot and that can be chaotic, but it’s alright, it’s how your brain works; can it be tiring for people around you? I think it can, as well as my anxiety can be a burden to people around me. I think it’s hard for people to be understanding and communicate and that’s truly the problem. At the end of the day, we all are humans and deserve to be loved and treated with nothing but respect. All the love to you, never be embarrassed about something you can control.

It's quite a reach to say someone with borderline personality disorder is going to lie about a rape just because they have mental health issues. Its important to be objective here and look at all options. Regardless of if the accusation is true. For example it's entirely possible that fear of abandonment could contribute to being pressured into sex with your best friend because you dont want to lose them. Having bpd doesn't automatically make you a liar or make you twist things although there might people with bpd who do that. It is quite insensitive how you handled that piece of information.
I have BPD and if you go untreated or you don't respond to treatment, it is very likely to act out of rage, act impulsively, and lie for attention, especially if the BPD is severe enough. I have done some very crappy things to ex-friends and ex-partners before I had a very intensive course of DBT, and in those moments I felt powerful and like I had control, and I'm sure that in her mind this is what she has to do to get "revenge." I have the illness, I have these thoughts and desires but through treatment I know how to control myself. I don't think how she talked about BPD was disrespectful at all. She could be a terrible person AND have BPD which has contributed to this scenario. It's very well known for people with BPD to lie to get their way. If she felt abandoned or felt that the friendship was beneficial to her fame, AND she was in a bad place, the potential to act out of emotion and anger is astronomical.
I have BPD and even without treatment I was able to deal with my emotions and with treatment now it’s even better. BPD doesn’t = evil and manipulative

I’ve gone through a lot of sexual assault and rape personally, and I really hate talking about it. It’s uncomfortable, I don’t like going into detail, and I certainly wouldn’t spend all day every day talking about it. I initially supported Timothy because it’s hard to doubt a rape victim. I followed her on Twitter and I even talked to her a bit, and basically all she wanted to talk about was Melanie. It’s like she was fixated on her and obsessed in a very unhealthy way. It was obvious that she was truly enjoying all of the attention she was getting, and small details in her story were changing. I got really tired of seeing her attack people on Twitter that doubt her and I didn’t want to constantly see all of her uncomfortable tweets about Melanie, which she would post 24/7. I unfollowed her back in January. I assumed that she would calm down about all the rape dialogue after a few weeks, but a few days ago I checked her Twitter again and she’s still talking about it every day. I get that she has BPD but that really has nothing to do with the fact that she’s extremely obsessed with Melanie. She needs to stay away from social media for a bit and get some help.

If you know anything about the relationships between victims and their abuser - you would understand that often times the obsession is a normal state and is very common amongst victims worldwide.
timothy having an unhealthy obsession with melanie isn't really proof she was lying, considering I was obsessed with my abuser years after the abuse, feeling like I was useless and missing a part of myself without the abuser.
I suffer from borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, reactive attachment disorder and ptsd. But I'd never stoop so low as to accuse someone of rape. I've lost friends who found it too exhausting to be around me because all I wanted was to be near them I couldn't be by myself. I was scared of being alone and still am. It's hard. You see things in a completely different way than others. You try too hard. I have irrational fears that result in anger triggered by a simple sentence or look that my brain deems offensive even if after the fact I don't understand why. But there were one or two times where I fucked up and was either too scared or too proud to apologize and admit I was wrong but I did anyways because I can't handle knowingly hurting people I've chosen to cling to.
Please do not think i am dragging you at all, what i am about to say is in no way meaning to offend you, but please make up your mind on which you are suffering from, bipolar and borderline are on the complete opposite spectrum and you cant suffer from both considering bpd is your emotions changing so often and bipolar is staying in a single emotional state for long periods of time. As someone who has bpd it just kinda messes with me alittle bit when people say this because it also makes you look uneducated/not really diagnosed for it.

People react and do things differently. Just because two people are diagnosed BPD or bipolar, that doesn't mean they will do the same thing. Every individual is different.
I remember watching this video when I was 11/12 and it gaslit me into believing Melanie was innocent. I've devoted so much to Melanie and I wish i never saw this video as a kid. Maybe if I hadn't, I would've believed the allegations back then like I do now. You single-handedly manipulated an entire generation to demonize people with BPD and to blame victims.

That was literally my first thought. It's one person's word and it doesn't prove anything. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, doesn't mean it did. But she's innocent until proven guilty :^)

at the end of the day, I believe Melanie did not rape timothy. But I think we still ALWAYS need to believe the victim, whether the oppressor is a woman or someone we stan. I do not believe timothy any longer, but when we first hear about a situation like this, we need to take a step back and put aside our personal love or hatred for someone and believe the victim. if evidence comes out the alleged oppressor did not do those actions, then they didn't. But at the end of the day, I'd take the chance of believing the victim bc the rate for false accusations of rape is 2-10% of all rape/sexual assault reports (and that's the people who did report, and also the victims who didn't go through with the trial because it was too hard or not financially stable are usually put under the false accusation %, so). though today I do love Melanie and I have since her first album, so yeah. this is coming from a stan.

I'm not on anyones side of this story but your statements arent exactly true. I was also sa'd and couldnt say no. I also didnt press charges on the girl nor am I angry at her. I'm simply upset and hurt, not everyone does the sames things as you when sa'd. You arent everyone. The way you talked about this was extremely insensitive.
Also "borderlines" can struggle with explaining these situations or talking about it at all. It doesnt always end up as "oh she lied" she's struggling mentally and that could take a toll on why she seems like she's lying.

My father has bipolar disorder and had attempted 3 suicides when my mom tried to leave him. He also wasn’t really taught how to be a good dad, and usually my mom and dad would hit my older sister, they did it less after me and my little sister came. But it still happened occasionally. And he had once gotten me an unprescribed adhd medication as I usually didn’t focus, and I was kept in the dark about it. The only explanation being is it was put in my food in the morning.
He also took my sister with him one time and she hadn’t eaten since she was with him.
He is doing a lot better now though, he’s in florida and has been on medication for it for a few years now. But I’m happy he’s doing better now, and he’s doing really well for himself and is trying to be more of a father figure. And I can’t wait to go and visit him again.
But I do agree that not everyone with this disorder will act like this, but it is still very much a thing that can happen. 😊

Just a reminder to people that if someone describes their rape in graphic detail, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a lie. Some people can handle talking openly about horrible events and don't always need the same amount of time to be able to talk about it, but it doesn't mean they're callous or lying for not being too upset to speak. It's taken me over a decade to be able to talk about my brother's suicide without crying, but that doesn't make his death any less real or painful for me just because I can talk about it finally.

Yeah, and no one has to stay your friend because "I'm mental🙄😛🙃🙃" If melanie dropped her it's most likely because she was tired of Tim and wanted to focus on her career, which she did. Imagine having to deal with a career, fans, family, vs. a FRIEND who wants your attention 24/7. Friendship ends. And I'm sure as hell not gonna stop taking care of myself to take care of someone else.
