@@ACanOfBakedBeans Yes,I think it should be rather easy from where they already are, as DM for the most is a subset of EotB regarding technical aspects. Just the level design of DM and CSB is 100 times better.
Thanks for having included my Breadless in this Roundup! You are right Louie: it is deliberately tough from start. I should have called it "Swear Words Generator", instead ;-)
After migrating from a 8 bit Atari to a 16 bit ST and discovering Dungeon Master in 1998, it was a jaw dropping experience. I would have never expected such a title possible on any 8 bit system; truly an achievement. I would also love seeing this title on the 8 bit Atari as well.
Don't you mean 1988? Don't get me wrong, Dungeon Master is a bonafide classic (my favourite game of all time) but I think if your date is correct you were a bit late to the party. 😉
LOVED the video!! I think for the first time so far I want EVERY game featured! Great work! And these titles are just a testament to how bright the future of your channel looks. MAN, I
Man, I used to play the heck out of Eye of the Beholder back in the day on my Amiga 1000. Really easy to use up 4 or 5 hours of your day without even realizing it!
That's great news! When I first looked into the c64 retro scene about a year or two ago, Eye of the Beholder was one of the WIP projects that stunned me (the other being the Limbo port). I'm glad to hear it's almost done.
EoB FTW! ❤❤❤ Seriously, the MAP and the MONSTERPEDIA! WOOOOOOOOOW! I would never believe EoB was possible on the C64 but to see that it is actually BETTER than the original? 😱😱😱😯😳👍👍👍
Probably your most exciting video to date. Thanks to Andeas Larsson and team. I will CERTAINLY be doing the kickstarter thing. This is probably the most important thing that has happened for our community for quite some time.
Something you might want to look into for your videos is "Trackspacer." It takes an input audio (in this case, your voice track) and then carves out the frequencies in the other track that make it so they don't clash. This would allow you to not have your voice get stepped on by the sound effects without having to duck all of the sound. In this video, that would've been particularly useful when showing the last game, as your voice and the shooting sound effects clash and it was hard to understand what you were saying.
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I would have to admit that when it came to this video, I was a little short on time availability and I took a couple of short cuts when it came to sound production. I will definitely take the time to not make the same mistakes in the future and I will check out Trackspacer.
the amiga version for eob has an automap(I think, some version of it has) hack. the automap makes playing the game a lot faster, there's couple of places with teleport traps that you can't notice running through. the c64 version looks great though
There is a AGA version which is kind of a hack (which is a bit of an understatement) which provides an automap. The only original versions incl. a map are the Mega CD and GBA versions afaik.
That title goes to Dungeon Master, which is what Eye of the Beholder was mostly a clone of. I mean, Eye of the Beholder was a much bigger game in terms of content, but Dungeon Master was the one that revolutionized the genre and introduced the various mechanisms (grid party layout, drag and drop equipment handling, point and click interface with movement/rotation buttons, realtime instead of turn based, and so on). Before Dungeon Master, there were first person RPGs like Bard's Tale, but generally with only one player character, or moving to a separate battle resolution screen with an older style of presenting multiple characters. And usually it was turn based, following the example of Ultima. Dungeon Master really rethought how things worked, taking into consideration mouse control and GUI principles.
@@IsaacKuo Eye of the Beholder was such a big hit for SSI, they came out with Dungeon Hack which was a totally randomized experience based on EoB. No EoB, no Dungeon Hack, no rougelike dungeon crawlers. Bard’s Tale and Wizardry before it was the prototypes for the turn based strategy RPG which evolved into the Baldur’s Gate and Divinity series.
Thanks for letting me know Jon. Audio recording process was disjointed this time around and that time mark is indicative of EOTB and Yeti voice over being recorded before the rest of the content. @@fantome2055 The latest from the team is that they have two outstanding bugs to resolve. It is only a couple of days required to fix but finding the spare time to fix and test seems to be the issue at the moment.
Well yes, but what hardware requirements will EOB have? With all that digitized sound, I imagine that a stock C64 might run out of breath with this much data.
Eye of the Beholder is a stunning achievement. I'm a big fan of Pixel City Skater too.
EotB is an instant classic.
Since Eye of the Beholder looks absolutely stunning, I wouldn't mind if someone ported Dungeon Master

Eye of the Beholder is beautiful, great preview, thanks!
The flashback segment is a great idea for this episode.
I used to play Bloodwych on my C64 like crazy when I was a teen. Now it's time to try Eye of The Beholder
That Eye of the Beholder looks amazing. Didn’t realize a C64 RPG could look like that.
Eye of the Beholder looks and sounds beautiful. Thanks for the news. 👍🏼

Thanx for this nice video 👍🏻 i am still waiting for the anouncement of PIG QUEST😊 Hope, this game will come out before Xmas 🙏🏻
Should not be too long for Pig Quest, definitely before Xmas.
Yeti Mountain's fluent Jump'n Run section is amazing and should be used for some Metroidvania style game on the C64!
I wish I could show you more of that section - it has some really nice touches.
Eye of the Beholder looks amazing.
I wonder how they did the lens flares back then? None of my little drawing programs had that…I had an awesome fractal fill though!
Excellent selection as usual!
This is what I've been looking for!
Dude that's a 16-bit game!😃
love the turrican music at the end. ahh the memories.

Zzap! would have given this Eye Of The Beholder version 100% back in the day, I reckon
98% I'd say, seems that was their limit. They probably wanted to give "The Sentinel" more so instead declined to rate it!
Great video mate, keep up the good work!!!!

Great video as always!
Eye of the Beholder.🤩
dual screen on c128, another reason to drag it out of storage.😀
EotB looks so good!!
EotB c64 looks better than the Dos version. And the added map function makes it the best.
“A dungeon crawler”?
Um, it’s THE dungeon crawler that spawned 3D/FPS roguelike genre which morphed into the modern looter/shooter.

No, that is tomorrow or in two days (depending on where you live). But yes I do understand your point, you never know we might be surprised 😀
Will the world also get Kyrandia?
Considering how long this took to complete, not likely.
