Thanks Brian. I inherited a wood duck house from the previous homes occupants. I found your video on a RUclips search for how to build a wood duck house, it came up first. I knew I needed to put in a mesh or something and you showed me exactly what to do. Thanks from a fellow Minnesota boy
Thanks for including the supply list and board sizes at the end of your video. Very helpful. I make mine with a side hinge opening towards to bottom of the box so it’s easier to clean out the box and watch out for wasp or snakes. Great video 👍🏻
Never hang a wood duck box from a tree unless you enjoy feeding predators. The box should be mounted to a pole with a metal cone underneath as a predator guard. Failure to do this will result in egg/hatchling predation. Also, one of the sides can be cut with 15 degree cuts about 10" apart which will allow you to hinge the side. The angled cuts allow you to open the box on the side and yet will not allow water intrusion. Hard to explain.
Nice looking box but I prefer to make my front door to hinges that way I don`t need a tall ladder so I can go down through the top . And possibly pull out a snake that I couldn't have seen . Not knocking your box it looks good
Wood ducks will not bring nesting materials to a nest box. We appreciate the video and helping people to understand building a nesting box, but I would highly recommend checking out some videos and instructions from Ducks Unlimited.
Nice video!
A jig saw makes the cutting process very easy.

You should place two or three holes in the bottom to let the water drain. Prevent the grass from becoming moldy. An expansion life of the nesting box.
Thank you for giving us something to do while stuck at home! Built two with my family! ENTERED
Very cool man, thanks for participating!
I just had a clutch of 15 baby wood ducks hatch yesterday in my first house.
The hen and all babies were banded.
Hey this is perfect timing! Great vid
Glad to hear that Bryce, hope you found the video helpful!
Is the mesh metal or plastic?
Works perfectly for my eagle project!
Glad to hear that!
