- Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade.
Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three-year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.
Conceived and designed by Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof and directed by Luke Scott.

Sir Peter Weyland's 2023 Ted Talk is considered one of the most pivotal moments in Weyland Corp history. It launched the man and his entire world view into the international spotlight, foreshadowing the rapid and legendary rise of what would become the world’s largest, most successful company.
ABOUT PETER WEYLAND
Sir Peter Weyland was born in Mumbai, India at the turn of the Millennium. The progeny of two brilliant parents; His mother, an Oxford Educated Professor of Comparative Mythology, his father, a self-taught software Engineer, it was clear from an early age that Sir Peter’s capabilities would only be eclipsed by his ambition to realize them. By the age of fourteen, he had already registered a dozen patents in a wide range of fields from biotech to robotics, but it would be his dynamic breakthroughs in generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap that gained him worldwide recognition and spawned an empire.
In less than a decade, Weyland Corporation became a worldwide leader in emerging technologies and launched the first privatized industrial mission to leave the planet Earth. "There are other worlds than this one," Sir Peter boldly declared, "And if there is no air to breathe, we will simply have to make it."

Guy Pearce is so underrated, there were no crowds or anything other than a film crew on set when he did this, it was all green screen. Yet he absolutely sold the idea of the young Peter Weyland Hell-bent on remaking everything and everyone in his image the way he thought the world should be. If this had been the actual start of the film "Prometheus" it would have been so much better.
Would have made the whole movie
He is astonishing.
I agree totally. Leaving this scene out was an absolute error in judgment.
I could see this happening in an Extended Cut of The movie. After the opening prologue with the Engineers banishing that one member of their race to Earth and condemning him to drink the black goo, I could see this happen after the title sequence.
I love Guy Pearce but the accent was a little bit bad
Wow. I just came back from TEDtalk and seeing Peter. That was a great show. The prices were a bit high but well worth seeing him in person!
Same i could feel the power in his voice when he spoke
Yes, This man is beyond even Elon. 🍷👍
I saw was there too!
Lol... now i get it...
I was unable to attend. Had catch it online later that week for $74.95🤨
Wow, what a brilliant talk he had earlier today!
(I remember watching this in 2012, thinking 2023 was so distant...)

"My name is Peter Weyland. And if you'll indulge me, I'd like to change the world. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk."
This gives me goosebumps. This is very much the very beginning of the Alien saga. The first step.
XD
but don't forget weyland is the enemy their the ones are playing god by bringing aliens to earth and didn't care about human lives
One of the finest trailers ever made - and why they didn't put in movie will forever remain a mystery!
Probably because this is not a trailer...
This is probably one of the best speeches in all history of sci-fi movies.
It's not from a movie.
@@swisskristin12 I know, but it is complementary to the movie.
this speech is ass
How do I keep missing these? Guy Pearce is a brilliant scientist and I am glad he is finally getting recognition for designing Peter Weyland.
If you haven't, check out his movie called Lockout. My favorite of his. Wish he could've been in more movies.
He speaks with passion. But it's because of people like him that destruction will find us one day.
People like him often find disappointment in humanity where they see the masses always busy in time wasting, manipulating, and deceiving of the true ideals of life. Imagine why robotics will become the future because the inadequate demands of society and unforgiven intolerance on mistakes that are severely punished. Once robotics advances so much, there wont be needs of society, or its freedoms, it will be quickly discarded. All that remains are the handful who are happen to have access to all the knowledge they can get to make a logical decision.
Remember that, all this will happens only at the brink of humanity demise.
@@analienfromouterspacei fully agreed with you
Destruction comes from fear.
Absolutely!
@@causalitymasteredIt could also come from recklessness. Remember what happened to Stockton Rush and 4 other people with him? It's easy to see when it only involves 5 people.
if fire is knowledge, then knowledge is pain and the trick is not to show it, but for David this is not true, David feels no pain, that's why he watches that scene from Lawrence of Arabia all the time, David has to pretend it hurts . David is the "alien" from Prometheus and Alien: Covenant
A knife can be a weapon, or it can be used as a tool. A killer weapon, or a life saving's tool. Only you can choose how to use it.
Walter was the improved David in Covenant.
Really awesome performance by Pearce, intonations, pauses everything was just brilliant.
He is such an underrated actor . ❤
Hes here so he's obviously no5 underrated according to Ridley Scott
The closer the Alien story can be brought to Earth, the better for this series. And behold the great Guy Pearce.
I think you are missing the point of the series then
There's a lot of scenes they could've added but even then, Prometheus is an excellent movie.
This real world video was released on October 8, 2012.
The actual in-movie date of this Ted Talk is February 28, 2023.
BUT... it's apocryphal, because he says "we are now 3 months into 2023", which would actually suggest April?
So Happy Weyland Ted Talk day, whenever it is! =)
Peter wetland was always a man ahead of his time
Maybe it was nearly midnight and 2023 isn’t a leap year.
If it was broadcast live and filmed in Long Beach CA, USA, it be march 1st for most of the world at that point.
And for people who didn’t watch it live but in the hours and days afterwards it would seem more impactful and less like they’re watching something old x
Are you splitting hairs like that!!??.. who cares Weyland industries reached to the engineers and found the most ancient answer we wanted to know.....

Truly a marvel of human ingenuity.
Great speech.I like to come back to it every now and then.
Go science.
yeah until he got killed by an engineer in the scene when he board the ship
@@tommydingo1h547 Despair does that for people in his position, he got addicted to life that he wanted more than his time, the very reason why the destroyers was tasked to carry the death instruments to earth.
This isn't sci fiction. Its happening before our eyes. We're lucky to be alive at this point in time.
Its not!
Bezos coming from a Space walk, Elon trying to colonize Mars... All those are example of an emerging Weyland Yutani type of industrial corporation.
Great changes for humanity are coming... And that's inevitable.
The point is, is it moral or not? Don't matters, Great Risk, Great Rewards. They know It. And you will see what i'm talking about in little few years.
This is a clean reflection, of modern corporation ambitions; ending Death, controlling our Destiny, searching for eternal youth.
All those topics are actual topics, you only have to do a little research
This time his name is why elon musk
Glad I got into the alien series now in 2023 bc this is immersive asl
Peter was great this year. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
A mix of Steve Jobs, Nikola Tesla and Gengis Khan.
So……Lex Luthor then?
Nope all Elon Musk alone.

I love how Prometheus explained so little that they had to add an additional movie just to explain the first
Amazing performance and story telling. I was stunned when I first saw this. Why was this removed from the theatrical release? It adds so much to the story, which with Alien movies is often an enigma to be later revealed by social media discussion. I liked Prometheus but came away from it quite perplexed by its lack of depth.
This gave me so much hope…….
Seeing a packed stadium with no masks or social distancing in march 2023
It took place in 2011 or 2012. Sorry, I have a poor memory.
@@LoveMaskedBandits”we are now 3 months into the year of our lord 2023”
The film was made in 2011/12 but it’s set almost 100 years later.
Right, a CGI audience from a 2012 movie is really inspiring
Every movie is always so abhorrently wrong where we will be from a technological stand point in any given year. We are ALWAYS behind.
We’ve got ai now. I mean we’ve always sort of had ai. Google, Siri, the whole lot. It’s scary how fast it’s growing to the point you can scan someone’s voice and replicate it. Not only that we can use ai to create images out of words. It’s mental. So we’re not too far off. Honestly Peter weyland feels more like Elon musk as each day passes😂
I mean the actual movie with all the space travel and android shit is in 2093, not 2023 like this Ted talk. I have a feeling well be doing actual space travel decades before 2093. If not definitely the ai
@@darthdragonborn1552 well to be fair to humanity we are going at a fast pace with technology. Just there a few days ago India launched a probe to the moon for 45 million dollars. That’s less than most blockbusters made today. That doesn’t add to anything but it’s honestly so impressive that they made it quite cheap. So to go back into space travel before 2093, we really don’t know the advances at the moment. I know for one thing there is a hypothetical plan to send lightsails powered by lasers that will go 20% the speed of light to our nearest solar system alpha centuari. It will take the sails 20 years to reach there and since light takes 4 years to reach us from there we have no way of knowing whether any of the probes survive. Exciting but risky. Ah well I’m sure we’ll figure it out
We don't have it. The Elite has it. Believe what you want. One thing they can't from us is our own opinions.
@@Harrydoc02 no we don't. The crap they call AI are just apps. It's just another scam in a sea of tech scams.
What a speech for a world of Technology like we live nowadays!
They can never make me hate Prometheus
he is very inspiring. He has an awesome voice
"We are the gods now. I haven't been struck down I'll take it to mean I'm right." Give it a couple decades. 😂
Ha I just thought of that. He is literally struck down by his god
Watching this in the year that this TED talk is set is even more unsettling considering the recent explosion of ai
They are just apps, not actual AI, and they are not capable of anything significant that humans can't do better, except for the glorified calculators.
Im waiting on David 8 still
@@gregoryl.levitre9759 They are absolutely AI, just not AGI
This 7 minute clip is a better movie than the entirety of Prometheus.
More frightening than Aliens is the man with the robot mind.
Some of his best work.
This should have been the actual opening of the film. Guy Pearce s electric in this.
I can't stop watching this. Imo, the best role Guy Pierce has ever done. Somebody stop me! Nah. I won't!
Another one of my favorite movies of his is called Lockout. What a magnificent actor!!

this was 2018? how do i not know this video. well done.
I love the optimism of 2012 that they thought in eleven years we'd not only cure cancer and discover new planets, but that Ted talks would be bigger concerts
Underrated comment.

And when you watch the film you realize that in the end it was Weyland’s blind ambition and the idea that he had become a god that ultimately led to his downfall.
They should've added this to the prometheus movie as a prologue scene!!
The timeline if Harambe was not killed
Guy Pearce is an incredible actor, but I’m not sure why he was channeling Matt Berry for Peter Weyland
I can see this happening if the year was pushed 20 years further into the future, but it does feel eerily close
Such a perfect performance shouldnt have been cut.
I am watching this right now, 4 months into 2023, GPT-4 is out with Plug-ins.

Lol it's all happening maybe not as planned but never the less. 🍷
@@evm6177It is planned. By the Elite. There's no stopping them. Some people are trying, but they won't succeed. The Elite are in control. They want more money, more power, more control, and the majority of us dead. Including the animals.
So this is how liberty dies
Weyland definitely suffered from a Messianic complex
With the new Alien Romulus coming out in a few weeks, i hope we find out exactly what and when the Wayland company learned out about the xenomorph/derelict. I hope we find out what they knew and more importantly how they knew before sending Ripley and her crew in the first movie to check on the derelict. I was hoping the prequels with Michael Fassbender would tell us but sounds like that is dead in the water.
im just happy he mention bladerunner
Yeah I'll take him over musk or zuck

Yeah, Weyland actually produces impressive tech instead of just running scams and playing meme star.

Its a great speech, but I think it betrays some of the failings of the movie within them context of the Alien/Aliens universe. It highlights the rapid technological advancement, on an accelerating path. It also presents us with a megalomaniacal person, with dreams of godhood.
Whereas, Alien/Aliens was about trucker/grunts in space, with a clear view that technology was extremely recognisable to the 1980s audience. No lasers. No teleporters. No holodecks. The clear message was tech advancement had slowed, not accelerated. It still made economic sense for Nostromo to be hauling a mineral ore refinery across light years rather than technology finding a cheaper alternative closer to home. And the message of the movies was ordinary people, trying to get paid/survive. Not trying to be gods.
Prometheus simply doesn't belong in the same story as Alien/Aliens.
